Re: State of the Mongoose 2018

Sounds good (the new stuff). The Brexit sounds bad. I've read a lot of predictions, but you are right - no one knows for sure. I already see two purchases from the Traveller line from the ones you mentioned. The Sword worlds and (don't know how to type it, starts with F), are still in the long term ...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

About the missiles and the resolution of the anti-missile defense, I assume they can be used depending on their thrust score i.e. the dogfighting can be resolved in the same turn as the PD reaction. The general rule here, from the CRB is that a turret can be used only once in a round, thus either fo...

Re: Stunner vs. creatures in 1E

If they don't have END (like in 2E) you can rule that 1/3 of their HP is END, can also modify it a little depending on the creature. Obviously only do this if there is STUN weapon around.

Re: Traveller Companion: Test Driving the Background and Career Packages

Tbh, I would allow them for a char played by a guest player who will most likely play 1 session. If he wants to play more afterwards, the rest of the generation methods are well balanced.

Re: Vehicle Handbook

Compared to 1st ed, a lot of things had their price changed.

The two which I remember:

Battle dress became almost 10 times cheaper.
Spare parts became 10 times more expensive.

I assume they made the grav vehicles far more expensive than before.

Re: Vehicle Handbook

The new one uses more streamlined rules (easier), which also allow for more "sway" of interpretation. The rules are simpler, but some edge cases might appear. However, I am not familiar with the rules of the 1st edition, only know that it's more complex. Haven't made a comparison of weapon firepower...

Re: errata book?

House rules - it can be like a community companion :D (free ofc)

For practical purposes, I like the errata to be more flexible - (3) and (4). (2) will also work for me.

Re: How to ensure the villain escapes no matter what

You can't. That is the charm of rpgs - you can't, unless you use some cheesy stuff, but then you lose the respect of the players.

Re: errata book?

Something new to add: CSC Page 43 - the Torpedo description (is a copy of the Laser Cannon)! Mailed Matt about it, here is what he sent: Torpedo : Effectively an underwater missile, torpedoes are large and unwieldy weapons when they first appear, but can prove extremely threatening to even the large...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

Yes, I spotted that too. Seems a page or a few paragraphs are missing (or perhaps even a piece of ART!) edit: removed a piece that I read wrong. Some pieces not clear to me on Page 161 1): PD with dogfighting missiles doesn't mention they have to make a successful attack roll. So, do they auto hit, ...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

The book, so far, is pretty good. I think it's definitely better the ones from 1st ED. There are some minor discrepancies (will compile a list), but the consistency is solid. No "critical" errors this far. There are some areas which could use a little better formatting, to increase comprehension. It...

Re: Space Combat Hit Location.

Yes, I play that, theoretically, a good shot (high dmg roll) from a small arm can do 1 dmg to an unarmored craft (as RAW). To my memory Effect is lost in scaling the damage. I might be wrong. 10 dton ship has 4 Hull points. This means it suffers 2 criticals from 1 dmg. Hull hit will most likely be f...

Re: GMing: Tracking details during Combat (CRB, Chapter 3)

We track (with who tracks what): GROUND: * Who's turn is in the round - Ref * Dodges - Players their own, Ref the npcs (but as Dilbert stated, npc don't always dodge or aim) * Check/attack scores - Players vs a target the Ref gave them (unless secreted, then only the Ref) * Check effect - Ref types,...

Re: Traveller 2nd Edition Errata

The CSC Track trait is official. I emailed Matt some time ago and he confirmed it's an omission. The trait stays. Also, can someone elaborate a little on this one: "Page 135, Vehicle Critical Hits Where results “increase hull severity”, apply a hull critical hit at the lowest level not yet applied.....

Re: Combat Arm - Overpowered?

I will repeat what others said. Purely by game rules, it is damn overpowered, both as net effect and listed price. But traveller was never a game to be played purely by game rules (at least classic and mgt). What the other people here said makes a lot of sense. For a year, I train with weights, most...

It's a book mostly full of rules. Even if we wait for a bit more, I would prefer it polished rather than having flaws cause by hurrying up.
