Re: Referee's Briefing

Did they sell well? I have half of them, I think. The mercenary one and the spaceports one were pretty good, albeit short. But that was part of the design. Is it within the Referee's briefing topic to include Game mastering advice? The Companion contained a few pages, but a lot can be written here, ...

the DR pack won't require the Deep Rift correct? I assume there will be a little bit redundancy.

Re: Avoiding the Character Generation 'mini-game'

I might get sidetracked here, but the character generation is part of the traveller "balance" mechanism. We've had a few players create characters using point-by and they manage to create some pretty damn monsters, compared to regularly created characters. Even the random skill distribution tables a...

Re: Elite: Dangerous

By meta, I didn't mean PVP. Basically, at one point of the game, the player realizes there is one thing with the highest speed to gain money. All other things have a slower speed. Similarly, to let's say - Diablo where the highest chance for drop/time is doing certain runs, repeatedly. Of course, th...

Re: Elite: Dangerous

Got a friend who played a lot, but at some point, he arrived at the meta, which quickly became too predictable to him. Then he stopped.

I assume you play it for reasons related to a future project of which you can't reveal much?

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

M J thanks for the reply! I just saw it now, almost 3 months later. To make sure we have obtained a sufficient understanding I will re-iterate what I got, so you and others can correct me. My confusion is only regarding the defensive use of the missiles. On page 160 (Companion) it says dogfighting m...

Re: Melee Rules for 'Fighting Dirty'

Some feedback here:

What is the difference between normal attack and a vicious kick? or stomp?

The Choke - is that in addition to the normal ways to deal damage in a grapple?

Trip & Dirsarm - how does that differ from the normal grapple rules?

Re: 2nd edition rules queries (Character generation, and vehicle weapons)

It is a mistake from an old version - during the playtest? - where vehicle scale was different than personal scale.

Wherever you got your files, ask if they have updated ones. The CRB I have from DriveThru is updated.

Re: State of the Mongoose 2018

Sounds good (the new stuff). The Brexit sounds bad. I've read a lot of predictions, but you are right - no one knows for sure. I already see two purchases from the Traveller line from the ones you mentioned. The Sword worlds and (don't know how to type it, starts with F), are still in the long term ...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

About the missiles and the resolution of the anti-missile defense, I assume they can be used depending on their thrust score i.e. the dogfighting can be resolved in the same turn as the PD reaction. The general rule here, from the CRB is that a turret can be used only once in a round, thus either fo...

Re: Stunner vs. creatures in 1E

If they don't have END (like in 2E) you can rule that 1/3 of their HP is END, can also modify it a little depending on the creature. Obviously only do this if there is STUN weapon around.

Re: Traveller Companion: Test Driving the Background and Career Packages

Tbh, I would allow them for a char played by a guest player who will most likely play 1 session. If he wants to play more afterwards, the rest of the generation methods are well balanced.

Re: Vehicle Handbook

Compared to 1st ed, a lot of things had their price changed.

The two which I remember:

Battle dress became almost 10 times cheaper.
Spare parts became 10 times more expensive.

I assume they made the grav vehicles far more expensive than before.

Re: Vehicle Handbook

The new one uses more streamlined rules (easier), which also allow for more "sway" of interpretation. The rules are simpler, but some edge cases might appear. However, I am not familiar with the rules of the 1st edition, only know that it's more complex. Haven't made a comparison of weapon firepower...

House rules - it can be like a community companion :D (free ofc)

For practical purposes, I like the errata to be more flexible - (3) and (4). (2) will also work for me.

You can't. That is the charm of rpgs - you can't, unless you use some cheesy stuff, but then you lose the respect of the players.

Something new to add: CSC Page 43 - the Torpedo description (is a copy of the Laser Cannon)!
