Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

Krrsh the Vargr (Book 1, Page 35): The profile gives him Charisma 10. That seems a bit high considering his circumstances and described behavior. The Game of Sun and Shadow (Book 1) Moving The Crosshairs (P163) and Planetary Assault (P169): A potentially campaign-changing option that should be cover...

Re: Shipyard Maintenance

Self-Maintenance Modification Deepnight Revelation has been modified to permit most repair and maintenance tasks to be performed using the ship’s repair drones or crewmembers on the hull. This is a laborious task, requiring mobile derricks to be secured to attachment points and work carried out wit...

Re: Shipyard Maintenance

Given how the Self-Maintenance Modification is described in Deepnight Revelation, a fixed facility isn't necessarily required for the yearly/long-term maintenance; a system without a proper spacedock could keep equivalent portable equipment on-site for servicing its own vessels, and if the place see...

Re: Dodging vs. Parrying clarification

Because there isn't one. Parry is only useful to someone with Melee 1+. Otherwise, it does nothing. Dodge is only useful to someone with Dex 9+ or Athletics/Dex 1+. Otherwise, it does nothing. Many characters won't have either. Many will have one but not the other. For characters that don't have any...

Re: Dodging vs. Parrying clarification

The system isn't really meant to force people to defend in a certain way or make it into a meaningful decision (not the least because many characters will have 0 for one or both 'options'), and whether it would be "more cinematic" is very much subjective. (Players being told that their characters ha...

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

Book 1: The Demon's Eye - P119, The Journey Home suggests that the PCs may hear of Captain Hammer's crusade (The Game of Sun and Shadow) - except there's no Captain Hammer in that episode, and referring to Krond's punitive flotilla as a crusade is overselling it just a bit. This is presumably an art...

Re: Trade codes for non main worlds

If it's prearranged cargo and you're just carrying it then it's freight, and if it takes about a week to get there then it's equivalent to a Jump-1 route. True, you might shave a small amount off of that because the ship doesn't need to use up a bunch of fuel for a jump, but in the overall scheme of...

Re: Trade codes for non main worlds

It could happen if there's local disruption: damage to ships/starport, a production glut/drop in demand, etc. Independents would be able to take up some of the excess stock in those cases, but it'll be a matter of 'right place at the right time'. I suppose that a situation like that could become (se...

Re: Creature bites against Armour ratings.

If a creature has that little attack power then it isn't *meant* to be a threat to a moderately-armored character, and any encounter with them should just be narrated over.

Yes, since all of the situational effects are now over and done with.

This would also be the point that CEI changes if that's warranted.

Re: CEI (and ECEI)

1) CEI is the baseline stat, ECEI is the temporary one. CEI doesn't usually change during a mission but may do so between missions if the circumstances warrant (significant crew changes and/or enough experience and training to bring about a permanent qualitative change). ECEI changes more frequently...

Re: Aslan and Clan Society

The last two points are a bit off since, as already noted, there really isn't any central authority to negotiate or enforce things. In the case of treaties it's a matter of negotiating with the relevant clans, or at least the ones that are powerful enough to ensure that the smaller ones stay in line...

Re: Question on Life Detection (Psionics)

To some degree this is an issue with typical Traveller adventure design, and some of the the older ones are particularly bad offenders. They're often written to expect/demand that the PCs be limited in various ways or deal with a situation in a specific fashion, even if that makes no sense with the ...

Re: Spaceship Interior Walls

The boarding party is probably less concerned about the walls and doors than what might be on the other side of them. Blowing through the wall and hitting a crucial system would reduce the value of the prize (if that's what they're after), and create a dangerous situation if it's something that coul...

Re: Ship Security Clarification

It's going to depend on the plot and the technology to some extent, but if the ship has something equivalent to what's described in the naval campaign books then they'll be treated as unauthorized intruders, so nothing would be available. If the ship has enough of an AI to assess and adapt to the si...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The main issue with taking the Henry Ford is that it would be difficult to do that and still have a good shot at the Martin. Attacking it in-system, even if it was pulled off before the escorts arrived, would mean that the players are IDed and won't have any chance of getting close to the Martin lat...

Here's another possibility: they pushed out into other systems because their maniacal extermination of every meat-eating creature inevitably caused the planetary ecosystem to crash. And guess what happens on every new world they move to? They aren't just a threat because you might be a meat-eater. T...

Re: Vargr careers seem odd

Balance in the math apparently isn't something that they're designing for with this book, so... Some of the specializations with higher difficulties seem to have more rank-up benefits associated with them, so in theory you get more out of them if you go for 5/6 terms and succeed at both rolls in eve...

Re: Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!

Well, I don't know if we need a reason to hit Vargr with bats. It is the only way they will learn... We wanted to create a slightly greater spread between various alien races. This is only a slight dip - remember, characteristics do not work quite the same in Traveller as (say) traditional D&D-styl...
