Re: Animals, the Overlooked Traveller Trope

A book that's solely about animals probably wouldn't work out, both for lack of truly-original content (the well is only so deep) and because it's a little too topic-specific. Broadening it out into a book that covers various aspects of xeno-ecology, not just "plants and animals" but related atmosph...

Re: Aliens of Charted Space 1 Critique

Since you didn't mention it, I can only suppose that you have the updated version that replaced the original 'advisor bot' artwork with a generic-boxy look. The original one was... a small robot-dog on wheels. I can understand a race making robots that look somewhat like themselves. There is a natu...

Re: [PoD] Planetary attitudes

If you want to keep it REALLY simple then you can treat the planet's disposition toward the PCs (and Drinax) as being 1+ levels higher than its 'actual' status, depending on how well they've kept their involvement in piracy secret, at least from the local authorities in that system. Or (slightly mor...

Re: Vacc suits for free?

Ships may not have diving suits, but they generally do have lifeboats, floatation devices, cables and hoists, and other emergency/service kit and parts, though exactly how much of what will vary with the type of ship - a small pleasure craft may not have much more than a PFD per person and a handhel...

Re: Psion ebook

Certain content (certain careers and talents, arguably psionic trauma as well) isn't really suitable for standard-setting Traveller campaigns, either, being better-suited to emulating various non-Traveller books/TV shows/movies. Also, 2E versions of some of the equipment have writeups in the Central...

Re: [PoD] Drinax location

The adventures don't seem to factor it in. The scout ship in Ihatei would have zero chance of outrunning the Harrier to a safe jump distance if it did. The PCs would be less bothered by it for the same reason: 24h for a Thrust-1 ship would be ~10h for the Thrust-6 Harrier. It's still a considerable ...

Re: Request for ideas: PoD and Ship Shares.

The Harrier - and those other two - aren't the only ships that the PCs are likely to get their hands on as the campaign progresses, so don't feel shy about it representing (in whole or in part) some other vessel becoming attached to the PCs' developing fleet. This works especially well if it's comma...

Re: Gun Combat and never missing.

It's 8 before any modifiers, but if they're in cover (why aren't they, if they're aware?) then you have -2 DM right there. The problem with raising the base DM is that it will hurt everyone who isn't a specialist. Base DM 10 with -3 for nonproficiency means that they outright *can't* hit a stationar...

Re: Stealth and fusion plant exhaust

Given the amount of hydrogen used to generate power, and how much that would actually represent if you were to fuse it all, it's entirely reasonable to suppose that most of that hydrogen is actually being used to create a mini jump-bubble (or series of mini jump-bubbles) that you vent all of the exc...

Re: Skip Tracing IMTU, or 'Why banks aren't stupid'

Changing codes every year runs into the "communication is slow and unreliable" problem (a lot of ships won't get their new codes in time), as well as the problem of those codes quickly leaking (you can't keep secret something that involves that many people - we're talking about every starport, couri...

Re: The Zhodani, Psionics, and the Consulate Military

I'm aware of those tactics, but using clairvoyance->teleport chaining like that isn't the same as someone using teleport to bring other people in with them; the Zho (unless, again, they have some kind of improved version of Teleport) are still limited to sending across as many people as actually hav...

Re: The Zhodani, Psionics, and the Consulate Military

Equipment, maybe, although the weight limit on teleportation would keep that to a minimum. This probably doesn't qualify you as a commando, though - more like a logistics (or payload) specialist. However, unless the Zhodani have a better version of Teleport than the standard (I don't know offhand?),...

Re: Battle dress. Who has it?

It's a Pirates of Drinax campaign, so engaging in misdeeds is pretty much a given, and battle dress is just one more handy tool to use while engaging in them. If the opposition might have enough firepower to pose problem for its wearer, well, that's what the Harrier's particle barbette is for.

Re: Skip Tracing IMTU, or 'Why banks aren't stupid'

Well, if you want to suppose that every part of the power plant is involved in the 'fail safe timer' mechanism, rather than it being some part(s) involved in the software/controls, then yes, it becomes harder to deal with. It also puts you in the "ship turns into a useless brick for months every tim...

Re: Skip Tracing IMTU, or 'Why banks aren't stupid'

Since they have control of the hardware and lots of time, a hacker is going to break that code eventually (impossible becomes quite possible with enough +2s). More than that, you can bet that cracking software will quickly start going around among shadier circles - people wanting to skip payments ar...

Re: Skip Tracing IMTU, or 'Why banks aren't stupid'

The default is that the ship's transponder system acts as an account-keeper for payments, particularly in the case that the ship hasn't been anywhere that could process them (it escrows the payment until you arrive at a relevant starport). This is one of the reasons why transponder-tampering is so h...

Re: What is the point of non Cloth armor?

Most of the other stuff is lower-TL, so it's no surprise that it's weaker. It'll usually only show up on lower TL worlds, or when someone from a higher-TL setting is forced to improvise. The two that are competitive - ceramic and poly carapace - are of similar TLs and nowhere near as subtle. (The Di...

Re: Battle dress. Who has it?

Since we're probably dealing with a Pirates of Drinax campaign in the OP, the laws and regulations that apply within the Imperium won't count for much. Nor are all of those suits going to be stolen. Given the history of the Reach (especially that of Sindal and its successor states) there'll be plent...
