Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The information about the Aslan strikes me as something that would be readily available given the context. Pretty much all of it is basic library stuff for the Trojan Reach, and leaving that aside, you've got the Scholar's Tower, Kasiyl, and all and sundry people who would deal with (or be from) the...

Re: Pirate Booty Quick Mechanics

I don't see the need for a bunch of tables for this: the off-camera ship simply generates a certain amount of return on investment (much like unused ship ownership from chargen can). You only need to worry about it beyond that when the story specifically calls for it, such as during the Sun & Shadow...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

I hear this "only governments can censor" a lot in the west, and not much in the east. I don't understand where it comes from. When I learned English, the dictionary certainly didn't define censorship as requiring a government. And anyway, the moderators of a community effectively are their communi...

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

One character being stronger overall can still work out as long as every character has some specific area(s) of strength that are relevant to the game, though the wider the spread in numbers, the more difficult this gets. I'm of the feeling that nonrandom methods make for much better games overall, ...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

On the rule hair-splitting front, I'm pretty sure that it would say "the firer" or "the firer and anyone close to them" if they were meant to be included. On the game implications front, having the Harrier's primary (and only significant) weapon hit the crew with lethal radiation doses is both nonse...

Re: 2 potential errors in Pirates of Drinax

1) Just badly put. In that case they'd be a bastard daughter.
2) Generally, newer material would supplant older. You could instead interpret it that they have 20 ships, of which 8 are significant and the others are minor (and thus not counted in the earlier book), such as small craft.

Re: House Rules: Character Generation aka Traveller Creation

Of the last two PBPost games I've played in, #2 and #3 have been in use and #4 has been handled as one reroll per term (only usable for that term), rather than paying for them.

It gives much more control over how the character turns out but it certainly isn't completely to order.

Re: 2nd edition rules queries (Character generation, and vehicle weapons)

I can't help with #3, but... #1: Every game I've seen so far uses the second version (you get basic training and a roll in the first term). #2: There are no other restrictions on the skills chosen. This is a by-design element of customization under the player's control; you can be better at the thin...

Apparently part of the backstory is that the original crew killed itself this way, as you pointed out earlier:
The radiation blast was from a drive malfunction as they jumped in. Unless they were trying to use the barbette for improvised ion propulsion, it wouldn't qualify as the cause. ;)

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Enormous technological changes disrupt the social and economic order of a society. Even if the leadership likes the idea of uplift, there's the reality of massive unrest when everything that people are used to is overturned all at once.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

There's a point at which the PCs can try to influence the ruler-to-be to change their policy positions, IIRC, and that's worth looking at. If they work with Rao they could try to persuade her that Harrick's heart is in the right place and the new kingdom needs to be something that inspires its peopl...

It's also rather difficult to present yourself as a wild despotic megalomaniac and not actually DO the things associated with that, in which case it isn't really an act even if there's an ulterior motive behind it. An autocratic leader who isn't a wild despotic megalomaniac but constantly frets over...

Re: Converting a Freighter for combat use

Since you have tonnage to spare, what about installing a small bay weapon (or two) in those cargo door areas and/or swapping out some turrets for barbettes? If you can manage particle ones without the local authorities taking exception, you'd have direct attack options that will out-range most turre...

Isn't that actually the ambassador to Arden rather than an admiral? There's no such admiral in the adventure but it matches the ambassador's description perfectly.

Psi-Drug - safe usage period?

The entry for Psi-Drugs in both the core and the CSC says... A Traveller who takes more than one dose of Standard or Double Psi-Drug, or a single dose of the Special drug must make an END check, with DM-1 per dose of psi-drug taken in the last week. Despite the ambiguous wording, I'm pretty sure tha...

Re: Does armor have less protection against lasers?

There are various anti-energy armors in the CSC. Their advantage in each case is that they're relatively cheap compared to general-purpose armors. Their disadvantage is that they're not much good against non-energy attacks (or energy attacks of the wrong type).

Re: What if Surgery falls short? How many surgeries?

It isn't unusual to require multiple surgeries in the case of really severe damage. The final one(s) might be for relatively minor things (mostly cosmetic/reconstructive), but sometimes you just can't deal with everything at once, if only because the person's body wouldn't be able to take it.

Re: How does a traveller computer work, and apart from skil wafers what does it do that we cant do today?

Really, it comes down to this. Traveller was conceived about forty years ago when the things that computers can do today (and the forms they take) would've been seen as the realm of wildly implausible sci-fi. The effects of most other technology getting better largely amounts to doing the same thing...

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

We want a cheaper ship! Let's load it up with as many quirks as we can get away with so it's real cheap then complain we can't do anything with such a quirky ship and demand cheap ways to get rid of the quirks. While that might be true in the case of a chargen-obtained ship, the PCs may come into p...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

They aren't owned and operated by the scout service when working in that capacity, though, even if scout service personnel are assigned ...
