Re: Combat in darkness

In twilight, +1 Range Band; in full dark, +2 Range Bands. Sometimes it doesn’t make a difference but sometimes it’s a huge difference.

Re: How to handle them?

What RTT said. Also, add arc-field weapons (light sabers) and robots can be be PCs with full UPP and skills and background (droids). You could probably use stats from the Ursa for Wookies. Or maybe Urzaeng Vargr from the 1e Vargr book. Remove 100dton jump drive limit, reduce jump fuel to 10% normal ...

Re: Players and their armor.

Yeah, my PCs have essentially created armor repair kits on their ship by stockpiling spares when they’re on the right worlds. That’s a good idea, limiting the number of times they can repair a given suit... I’ll have to noodle on that a bit. As crunchy as it seems we actually improv a lot of combat ...

Re: Players and their armor.

I’ve been using 10% of damage inflicted on the character, with a 50% milestone then no protection. So a guy in TL10 Cloth (Protection 8) takes 5 points of damage after armor soak. The player must also track 0.5 points against his armor. When the armor gets to 4 points of damage taken, it's effective...

Re: Questions about playing while Visually Impaired

There's someone on the CotI forums known as BlindGuy, a blind person into rpgs, including Traveller. You should head over to travellerrpg.com and look him up, he has been experiencing much of what you're asking about for a while now and could give you a much better perspective on things than many of...

Re: Sensors Vs Superior Stealth

I'm still inclined to give a bonus to sensors checks at short range. If the targetting systems on weapons are affected by range, then to my (admittedly completed unqualified) mind it seems like sensor checks ought to be. Yes, this. IMTU Civilian sensors have Long range and a scan is a Difficult tas...

Re: Travel times surface to orbit?

The table above gives similar times as the table in the newest Mongoose rules so there you go. 23 minutes at 2G for a Size 6 world, one way. 46 minutes round trip. Feel free to add time due to ion storms in the magnetosphere, heavy satellite traffic, star port authorization delays, ionization storms...

Re: Travel times surface to orbit?

Back in the CT days it was said an air/raft could reach orbit in 1 hr per UWP Size digit - so 6 hrs for a Size 6 world. The Travel Times table on pg 153 of MgT 2e lists a distance of 10,000 km to orbit, taking 2,000 seconds (appx 34 minutes) at 1G Thrust. One assumes the return journey to be about t...

Re: Questions on starship hull points

The journey from 88 (100%) to 8 (10%) hull points is where the story is. Less an accounting of hull hits, more an account of each hit. 10% of hull integrity is basically confinement to the bridge... after a struggle to keep other areas of the ship operational, escaping areas that are suffering decom...

Re: Armor Effectiveness

This was bothering my group as well so we’ve been trying scaling the damage, kind of like Personal vs Vehicle vs Ship scale. We have Small craft and ACS/Civilian scale (up to 2000 dtons) BCS/Organization scale (2001-5000 dtons) Capital scale (5001+ dtons) Each class hits at 50% less cumulative damag...

Re: Char Gen House Rules

My house rules for char gen are based less on me as Ref and more on what players these days expect or at the very least are interested in. At least here on the Dirty Coast. The last group I started a Trav session with, we rolled characters and I stuck to RAW. No one got what they expected and only o...

Re: Characters Height and Weight

Spica Career Book 3 for MgT 1e has tables for height and weight, hair, eye and skin color, the effects of aging and also extended family background.

I will never get tired of mentioning these Spica career books - such an excellent resource! They are on DriveThruRPG.

Cool idea, consider that yanked! Probably Service Skills Table but maybe Pers Dev too... hmmm...

Regardless, good idea, thanks!

Re: Char Gen House Rules

I have always allowed players to arrange their stat rolls as they see fit, to give them a better chance at qualifying for their desired career. Also, 4 or less can re-roll if desired (but only one single re-roll). Also I allow them to throw the 1D for skills then pick the table, again to help them s...

Re: Passenger Adventures?

In the MgT 1e Compendium 2 there is an adventure called Spinward Fenderbender where a small craft collides with a passenger liner as a cover for a kidnapping attempt. You could run that as the conclusion to your second jump perhaps. It is set in District 268 but with a little work you could adapt it...

I use a selection of staterooms as well, from 4dT up to 12dT. Also on some ships varying amenities can make same-sized staterooms Steerage, Mid or High. Higher costs but also higher income depending.

Re: Is Martin J Dougherty an alien?

He's also hosted at least one television show. When I still lived in L.A. several years ago I asked out him for beers when he was there shooting (we had been in touch about some MgT writing I was doing at the time) but we weren't able to get together. I believe the show was military-oriented.

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

Spica Publishing did a series of three Career Books for MgT 1e that were almost entirely Citizen-type careers: starport authority, politician, orbital search & rescue, athlete, etc etc. They were excellent for creating characters that had a different scope and feel and especially good for NPCs. I st...

Re: Is there a place that is culturally cybernetic?

Exactly! What I'd love to see is a big campaign pack set on a Pop 10, TL 15 world with literally gravity-defying spires, teeming crime-ridden undercities and which focuses on the everyday impact of high technology and clones and chimerae and uplifts and augmentation and the role played by androids ...
