@Reynard, I rather like your take on the megafreighter. Nice to have a concrete idea of something that’s always been vague background fluff in my campaign.

Probably I would have a skeleton crew and some rudimentary defenses against pirates, but what’s a thousand dtons amongst friends?

I built one for 1e as vehicle design had a lot more math in that edition. Haven't done anything for 2e yet.

Repulsor bays were indeed anti-missile weaponry. They disrupted missile navigation and flight patterns with "large focused anti-grav projectors" leading to reduced numbers of hits. I guess the Gravimetric Distorter is a nod to this?... although the Distorter is a turret weapon and Repulsors were 50 ...

I’ve never done it as a hiring situation but in one MgT 1e campaign the players made an alliance with a few other traders and they traveled as a caravan for several jumps thru a dangerous region. Mutual protection and slightly expanded sensor coverage was a great boon for them; no money changed hand...

I feel your pain but I have to say, MGT v1 and v2 are imminently compatible. There’s very little other than ships that need any sort of conversion and if you have High Guard v2 you’re set for ships. I read it like this: “Multiply tonnage by 4 = spaces” So a 1 dton pulse laser requires 4 spaces in a vehicle.
