Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet
Begs the question, why is skimming so dangerous? Combined with sensors that can detect and illustrate incoming storm fronts, should be simple to fill the tanks. Because this tech would be ubiquitous by then. But personally I like the danger of skimming. Interesting implications for a near-future cam...

Re: Slow drug to replace sleep?
Inclined to agree that micro-dosing Slow Drug would not work as expected. But it’s a fair question. By TL12 there must be something that addresses this. Probably it’s addictive thus a black market drug. Roll Streetwise, modified by Law Level, to find 1D+Streetwise doses available. Then roll for qual...

Re: Astrogation check
Space is incredibly vast and things in space move very slowly. I would have thought a single calculation would be good for several days if not weeks. Same here. Maybe it degrades slightly over time and you take the hit on arrival. Say every day passed since the calcs were done add 2D diameters to y...

Re: Skill awards during character generation.?
We play that Commission does not gain a skill roll (because only certain careers offer commission at all). Of course it unlocks another table for the character to roll on so that's the "reward."

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint
An index would be quite helpful. I echo the suggestion to remove the PC aliens pages completely - and then expand the Events tables for each career to add some variety to PC backgrounds. And I agree the character creation flowchart could be improved and probably reduced in size somewhat. Sensors. Th...

Re: Rent a vehicle
I don’t work in the automotive industry but in my business we as a matter of course see rentals for equipment packages (from megacorps like Panavision) costing hundreds of thousands of dollars; on a smaller scale, personal owner/ operators often rent equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars (mys...

Re: Low Passage rules query
RP side note: I was planning to present my travellers with a moral dilemma at some point. A pregnant prospective low passenger. Is the low berth suitable for pregnant women? Do they offer her a free boost to state room? What if those are all spoken for, who gets the boot to make room. What if they ...

Re: Spaceship Interior Walls
Not sure about AVP but in the CT Traders & Gunboats supplement, it took 100 points of energy or explosive weapon damage (slug throwers must inflict 1000 points) to create a person-sized hole in a partition wall. Bulkheads required 1000 points of energy/explosive damage to create a person-sized hole ...

Re: Jumping away from gas giants
Same goes for stars. Yep. Which can be problematic. Take a look at the red giant in Acrid/Trojan Reach and tell me where to place the mainworld. If you place it in the habitable zone, it's still weeks away by manoeuvre drive. You can place Acrid in the outer system, but that makes its corrosive atm...

Re: Jumping away from gas giants
Yet in MgT 2e we don’t even have Small and Large GGs. I do appreciate the new skimming rules in the Companion however.
But your suggestion is a good metric should we start detailing gas giants.

Re: What are some rare delicacies worth sending across the Imperium?
This is from a write-up I did for Heya (SM Regina 0802): Weather on Heya is a long-term affair. Farmers allow certain crops to flourish naturally for decades while other plants' growing seasons are merely repeated in an endless cycle; the mild winter is a growing season in its own right. There are t...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread
IMO the whole structural vs cosmetic, etc RU was abstract rules gone to far. This process adds no enjoyment to the campaign. If the players wanted something for the ship, they had to figure out how to get it. And so the next adventure begins. Feels like the whole RU thing is MgT 2e trying to incorp...

Re: Precipitating Out of Jump - Damage?
Interesting. Perhaps use the Critical Hits table from Core, Space Combat? Maybe every 2 pips the jump roll failed by is a +1 crit. So missing the roll by 2 or 3 is a Severity 1 crit on the J-Drive, miss by 4 or 5 it’s Severity 2, etc. IMTU I have a table for misjumps, basically the more you fail by ...

We’re playing in a small ship ATU right now so my sensor DM scheme stops at 10,000 Power. But AD’s suggested scale above is spot on.

Re: Rethinking Athletics Specialties
This is all great stuff to ponder. We’re playing MgT2e but I’ve kept Zero G as a separate skill. That is the one that really tips Dex over the edge into dominance for me. Any career that requires working in space/spaceships, I let the player chose a skill or three in the char gen tables to replace w...

Re: JTAS sensor rules
Since MgT2 has brought Power points/management back to the game, I’ve been providing sensor DMs based on the number of power points being used when ships get in range of one another. Cut the M-Drive, give your potential enemy a -DM. Etc. it works great for us, we’ve had some fun “running silent” sce...

Re: Fuel costs--jumps vs. weeks of operation
I prefer to think of Trav standard life support as being whatever is most efficient, cheapest and easiest for a given tech level. In player terms, it’s Engineering (life support) that handles the day to day. In my mind this is a lot of filter/cartridge/membrane replacement and maintenance on machine...
