Re: Third Imperium Supplements in MongTrav2e

+1 to using 1e. Very easy to take what you like and fold it in to a 2e game. Again, ships and vehicles need to be converted but it's pretty painless once you get the hang of it.

Re: Holi, And Other Local Cultural Festivals

In my last campaign the group ended up on Heya during World elections: The Heya Republic, the world's main governing body, is democratically appointed by a series of raucous elections taking place every five years; every three years, local bureaucrats and regional mangers are also forced to stump fo...

Re: Xenobiologist

The Classic module Nomads of the World Ocean is an excellent adventure dealing with harvesting pharmaceutical components from a unique life form. It details the life stages and ecosystem quite extensively and sets up a seagoing battle with a megacorp. It is originally set on Bellerophon in the Solom...

Aren’t the large ships just background to most campaigns anyway? Does anyone run an adventure or campaign in which the travellers wander from system to system in a capital ship?
For my gang, indeed. Was just trying to throw out some alternate thinking.

Re: Real World - why people + computers make best combination

Back in the CT High Guard days, when ship tonnages became astronomical, I required additional levels of Pilot as the tonnage increased. Pilot 1 was good enough for up to 5000 dtons, a million dton ship required Pilot 6. So you’d have three of four pilots on the largest vessels, working together, Por...

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

You could also make the repairs a reward from a Patron. A star port administrator, local Noble or underground chop shop could all help get a quirk removed as payment for a job well done. Leveling up the ship, as it were.

Re: Question on the 100D jump limit

Regarding Old School’s original question, T5 posits that Jump is a straight line from departure point to destination point. So on a 2D map, you could draw a line from hex center to hex center to understand where the jump route between those two worlds are. That will also give you a point on the 100d...

Re: Accelerator shotguns?

Your guess is as good as any other. Very well, then. Accelerator Shotgun A standard issue shipboard security and customs weapon, the Accelerator Shotgun (more commonly known as a Boarding Shotgun) is a short-barreled, smooth bore weapon which fires a large spread flechette round designed to punctur...

Re: Accelerator shotguns?

Boarding Shotgun: TL 9, Range 20m, 4D, 2kg , Cr600, 6 rds (Cr20), Zero-G, Ignore Dodge 2 kg is too light? A regular shotgun is 4 kg, and the major difference is the shell fired. Too low weight also increases recoil, which is exactly what we want to avoid. The fluff text implies it's a shortened bar...

Re: Accelerator shotguns?

I've been imaging this in a fashion similar to steve98052 - but as flechette rounds built to rupture vacc suits rather than a fragmentation round. Sort of like the old M40 but with a clip: The Accelerator Shotgun (commonly called a Boarding Shotgun) is a short, smoothbore weapon which fires a large ...

Re: Using optional MGT1 careers in MGT2

I’ve been using several 1e books, including the Spica Career Books, with 2e since it came out. Haven’t changed a thing except to take a pass to make sure the skills line up. The Spica events tables are great, a lot more variety than the core rules.

Re: Aslan vs Human SOC

I like how T5 handles this. Aliens have “alien” stats sometimes, like Vigor instead of Endurance, Charisma instead of Social Standing and so forth. In all cases, the stat is divided by two to determine the sophont’s effective stat. So CHA 8 = SOC 4, or SOC 8 = CHA 4. Regarding Aslan TER, I think the...

Sounds awesome NOLA, would love to hear about their adventures.
Thanks, OS. Not likely to post an epic campaign log such as yours and others as I'm a terribly undisciplined writer. But I'll try to post a few highlights here and there. Cheers

Re: If we didn't have the Third Imperium to kick around anymore...

I’ve done very little in the Third Imperium, mostly one shots or quick campaign arcs with a definite end point. I’ve always been a home brew, roll it up kind of guy. Even more so the last few years with the preponderance of online generators available for everything from star systems to random gadge...

Re: Traveller Companion: Test Driving the Background and Career Packages

Nice, thank you for this. I've been using MTU Background & Upbringing rules prior to career selection to help players get closer to where they want to be with their character before play starts. Interesting to see where my house rules overlap - and don't. I'm sure I'll be picking up the Companion at...

Re: Vehicle Handbook

Yes, a few mistakes and typos in the 2e barge; in addition to those pointed out above, Hull is actually 2 per space so 128 Hull, which seems excessive for the original concept.

But an oversized air/raft going from Cr400K to MCr4 is what seems really broken to me.

Re: Maintenance, Repairs, and construction

... The usual route is using foreign high TL ports to do the maintenance and repairs... This is what happens IMTU. A few different star-nations have to go elsewhere for ship upkeep so there are high TL ports that are basically city-states catering to all. You could be docked next to your nemesis bu...

Re: Popular games in 3rd imperium? go, chess, poker? what?

Poker, and standard playing cards, are a key part of the opening scene of the old "Aces & Eights" adventure from the original JTAS in 1982 (258-1108 Imperial Reckoning).
