Re: What is "canon" these days?

After several meandering discussions at the table we've decided the current active canon consists of T5, Agent of the Imperium and MgT 2e. Our game is 80% MgT 2e, 20% house rules and inspiration/kewl ideas from T5. Bully for us, we hardly ever play in the OTU. But we love Mongoose for revitalizing t...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

To place a spacecraft weapon into a vehicle, simply multiply the tonnage of the weapon by four. This is how many Spaces it will consume, to a minimum of 1 Space. So no, spaces aren't just mass it is also used for displacement. ( Much like thrust 1 is used for both speed and acceleration, where thru...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

We’ve always used the three weapon scales in the play test rules of v2. However we use a factor of 5 between them: Personal = 1/5 vs Vehicle, 1/25 vs Ships Vehicle/Smallcraft = 5 x vs Personal, 1/5 vs Ships Ship = 25 x Personal, 5 x Vehicle/Small craft I bring this up because it led to the firmpoint...

Re: Subsidized Merchant Fiances

Back in the 1e days I had a group that couldn't decide if they wanted to do a trader game or something more action/intrigue oriented so I gave them a Subbie when it came time to resolve the mustered Ship benefits. I had the players throw 2D-2 for how many worlds were contributing to the subsidy, wit...

Re: Thnk like a criminal in the Third Imperium

I ran a short-lived campaign where the players were Ine Givar rebels fighting the oppressive expansion of the evil Imperials. Their MO was to steal smallcraft, refit and repaint them, etc and sell them a few systems over to finance their operations. Once the money landed they could plot and scheme t...

Re: Colonization history of the Third Imperium

The Vargr don't strike me as the type to take logistics seriously, and I'm going to guess the Vilani didn't have local planetary defence systems. Resulting in quite a porous border region I would imagine. I'll bet the Extents is littered with lost Vilani colonies and outposts, probably some that ha...

Re: T20’s on Bundle of Holding- useful for a MG2 game?

The Travellers' Aide series was pretty good. When prepping adventures I usually check the vehicle supplements (On the Ground, Through the Waves, Against Gravity) for ideas on NPC or flavor vehicles, there are lots of options and tons of illustrations. I only stat them out for 2e if absolutely necess...

Re: Colonization history of the Third Imperium

Gonna have to keep in mind the Vargr as a potential threat in future games. :) I wonder if there’s a canonical timeline or map of the growth of Vargr Extents over the same period you’re examining here. Might give some insight into Imperial expansion in the area, or at least a few solid adventure/ca...

Re: "Nozzles" on the Element cruisers

If you have a high closing velocity you will fly through each other's battle lines. You will then take a long time to dump velocity, turn and come back. Yes, precisely. In the books that time is spent on damage control and assessing the tactical situation post-attack run. No handbraking or swooping.

Re: "Nozzles" on the Element cruisers

The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell envisions fleets closing on one another to find optimal range then there's a flurry of fire and defensive actions all run by computers because relative velocities are so high. Assessment and damage control happen as the ships streak away from each other and pre...

Re: Third Imperium Supplements in MongTrav2e

+1 to using 1e. Very easy to take what you like and fold it in to a 2e game. Again, ships and vehicles need to be converted but it's pretty painless once you get the hang of it.

The Classic module Nomads of the World Ocean is an excellent adventure dealing with harvesting pharmaceutical components from a unique life form. It details the life stages and ecosystem quite extensively and sets up a seagoing battle with a megacorp. It is originally set on Bellerophon in the Solom...

Aren’t the large ships just background to most campaigns anyway? Does anyone run an adventure or campaign in which the travellers wander from system to system in a capital ship?
For my gang, indeed. Was just trying to throw out some alternate thinking.

Re: Real World - why people + computers make best combination

Back in the CT High Guard days, when ship tonnages became astronomical, I required additional levels of Pilot as the tonnage increased. Pilot 1 was good enough for up to 5000 dtons, a million dton ship required Pilot 6. So you’d have three of four pilots on the largest vessels, working together, Por...

You could also make the repairs a reward from a Patron. A star port administrator, local Noble or underground chop shop could all help get a quirk removed as payment for a job well done. Leveling up the ship, as it were.

Re: Question on the 100D jump limit

Regarding Old School’s original question, T5 posits that Jump is a straight line from departure point to destination point. So on a 2D map, you could draw a line from hex center to hex center to understand where the jump route between those two worlds are. That will also give you a point on the 100d...
