Re: JBE: What Monsters Do You Want to See?

Not sure how the magical effects of the monsters mentioned would translate over to a sci-fi/space opera setting. Given the Zhodani presence there could be psionic creature that get called monsters. Here are some thoughts. Updates to Psion abnilities will change these options of course. No recent psi...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Where are the crown jewels of Sindal?

I had the hidden Harrier base be full of stats, parts and tools to maintain a Harrier. Justification being that the 2 stripped down Harriers could indicate that the base was the operations center for the commerce raiding operations. I let the base become a resource for the players to repair the Harr...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Where are the crown jewels of Sindal?

I had a Sindalian Scepter of office in the vault for the Vorito Gambit. I rolled a 12 on the Vault contents. The Baron player (who ended up King in the Coup) took the scepter. It adds to his legitamacy. (pg 195 of the ebook) Book1 Another option is to put something at the Hidden Depot. Something shi...

Re: Not smuggling - declaring banned items when entering high law level

Well how else will the ship be able to make that delivery of questionable goods if they don't park off the starport??? :) Those illegal gizmos are not going to deliver themselves!! And on a lighter note you could always carry your illegal weapons in your off hand slot like in the Zhodani conspiracy....

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Well I like the J3 route of Tyohk or Vorito, Byrni, Tech-World, Acrid as having the best starports along the route if you are heading towards Fist at J3, coming in that way from the Imperium. Byrni is also the closest to the 90 Billion people market of Browne and a jumping off point for any expediti...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

I like the article, thanks for the link. This is a good example of a planet exploiting the resources of the system. Not exactly on the Kardashev scale, but a good step up. :) Once the skimmed material gets to the station a ship wanting fuel can just dock and hook up to dockside infrastructure. I gue...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Fishing rights off the coast of africa is a good example. China has gained fishing rights and the local industry is suffering. Putting in a station with drone skimmers is a great idea, but will the planetary government try and nuke it, take it over with hired star mercs, issue you a permit and a tax...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Let's look at a specific system. Byrni in the Trojan Reach (TR 2527). Tl6 with a Class B starport. 11 worlds and 4 gas giants. The planetary tech level is not going to be able to claim or control much of anything off planet. The government could buy some ships and hire crew. This could allow mining ...

Setting up a skimming operation in a system

I've been thinking of the impact of a shipping concern setting up a refueling location at a gas giant. Assume a system bound ship, no Jump drives, that has drones or smaller ships that skim a gas giant and bring the collected fuel to the orbiting ship for processing. The Jump ships working for the c...

Re: Building the Alliance in Pirates of Drinax

I see Browne as the big guy in the corner that nobody talks to. The advantage Browne represents is a huge pool of labour for industry or for military. There are challenges facing any plan, a jump route to get there and back, supplies and training in more advanced tech. If these are addressed then Br...

Re: Building the Alliance in Pirates of Drinax

I was thinking of a run to Browne: 30 Billion citizens. 2 Credits per year per head and you have 60 Billion cash. Even looking at the close neighbours. Pourne is a coup gain if you roll it. Tech 10 and 900 million population. There is a win right there in terms of taxation. You can offer colonizatio...

Building the Alliance in Pirates of Drinax

So my players started the Finale adventure for Pirates of Drinax. In my campaign one of the players (A Soc 12 Baron of the Moot from the imperium) took over during the coup in the palace. Sadly Oleb's DNR wishes were recorded and the Baron used the chaos to take control. So throughout the campaign t...

Re: fuel-cargo hybrid space

A TL 14 based Jump Station merchant route can be very profitable. Moving externally mounted cargo with a drop tank equipped ship is very cost effective. (blatant plug) there is a module called Jump Station Echo on Drive thru. (end blatant plug). The TL required to prevent the occasional destruction ...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

I think Oleb is aware of history: Spoiler alert ‘We can’t stay here. The Floating Palace... it’s a joke. A cage. A... stupid thing. We were dragons once. We will rule the stars again. I gave you a Letter of Marque when we started this campaign... of piracy. It’s still good. Bring back the Kingdom, a...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

Well Oleb's claim is that he is heir to the Sindalian Empire, which had the weapons. Any whiff of rogue nation talk would get him annoyed in the extreme. He might challenge you to a hurricane boxing fight. :) The nuclear detente as a defense against Aslan expansion would make for an interesting nego...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

The mutually assured destruction idea raises some interesting options. Letting other powers in the area know that you have Harrier ships with stealth capability and the ability to deliver world killing munitions makes for some interesting diplomacy. Even if on the losing side (Treasure of SIndal is ...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

It depends on how nasty Drinax wants to be with their planet killing weapons (assuming they found them in Treasure of Sindal). The Aslan planet Tyokh has 20 Billion Aslan on it, out of 29 Billion Aslan in the subsector. Wiping out one planet would level the population difference between human and As...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The Treasure of Sindal computers might have archives of ships being sent somewhere, even ships hidden away and mothballed. Ships left hiding in empty sectors waiting for the need to be pressed into service. Of course the robot sentinels could be a problem.... The hidden base may also have plans for ...
