Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

If they have a radiation weapon do not foget the damage to crew. In a small ship with only a few crew the radiation damage can lead to the target giving up because there is nobody left to drive/fight/aim/countermeasure vs missiles. Go over the rules for radiation damage. Ships without shielding can ...

Re: Drinax Treasure Ship question

The ship was in the last minutes of jumping from Arunisiir to Tech-World when the Jump plot was altered. The safety interlocks were opened to prevent the Jump from happening (which it did, the ship never left the Arunisiir system.) the engineering section then blew up and damaged the Jump drive. The...

Re: Starting Drinax Advice Sspo

Decide on a couple of things first off. 1 ) Mark out what starports are run by GeDeCo. At some point the players may want to start hiding from, or working for GeDeCo and it will help to know where the ports are. 2) Decide how dangerous the Aslan are. The Aslan wave that is about to crash across the ...

Re: Thinking of getting rid of Astrogation, Medic...and ship computers in general

The idea of a tiered society based on service is an interesting one to explore. The starship troopers poster is not a bad starting point. Basic income allows for a pretty basic life. Enter service and you get into the next higher rung of life. Serve more terms and you get even better perks. Your pen...

Re: Pirates of Drinax: Game of Sun & Shadow

I am running a Drinax campaign and never used that adventure. My group went political and trade in doing the adventures and farmed out the piracy to Darokyn and other pirate groups. Piracy became a meta event while the group targeted GeDeCo interests and trade alliances on a personal level.

Re: Hydrogen to water

The zhodani conspiracy was a computer game, so overhead was not an issue. I could walk to the trading desk from the spaceship, click and buy the water, run to the ship, launch and fly to the next planet, land, trade and sell and back to the watery planet in under a minute. https://en.wikipedia.org/w...

Re: Hydrogen to water

I remember playing the zhodani conspiracy game years ago and rather than do the quests I realized I could buy water on one planet for 100 credits and fly to a desert world and sell it for 500 credits. Wash rinse repeat for an hour and I had the best ship upgrades you could buy.

Re: Hydrogen to water

Thank you everyone for replying. I could not figure out why it seemed my math looked odd. It seems counterintuitive to ship 14000 liters of something and get less than that at the far end of the journey.

Hydrogen to water

If I move 1Dton of water that is 14 m3 of water, 14 000 liters. If I move 1 DTon/ 14 m3 of Liquid hydrogen and then combined that hydrogen with oxygen at my destination, how much water would I end up with? Assuming 100 percent of the liquid hyrdogen is converted to water. Is it better to move water ...

Re: Super high speed combat

acceleration rate is ignored and does go away. There is no m/s2 equation. Turn off the M-Drive you stop. Turnover and deceleration is ignored. The 25 g's of acceleration you can get with Mdrives and reaction thrusters don't squish folks either. Physics makes for difficult combat scenes so it got dro...

4000 Tons total, so 3000 tons of cargo at Jump 1. That's where the money is.

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Shorter Jumps allow more cargo to be carried, both inside the ship or towed. There is an opportunity for a longer range ship to make more money jumping shorter distances. 1000 ton ship J4 need 10% tonnage in drives: 100 tons (+5 but lets ignore the 5 tons) 100 tons of drives Jumps J4. 100 tons of dr...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Shift to a Collector based system and you do not need fuel at all. The Deep Space explorers handbook has the fancy science ship. That thing would be stripped down and converted so fast. :P

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Don't forget they changed the cargo pricing to allow ships to make money on trade. First edition was a loss if I recall. You can spec a 1000 ton freighter that ends up with 100 tons of cargo space at Jump 6. The cost (no armour, no guns no frills) is 438.8 Million. 1.8 Million a month mortgage. 100 ...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

It depends on what you are saying their job is. If a 400 ton drop tank costing 10 million credits blows up after 2 uses, it is costing 5 million credits to save 800 tons of space on a ship. (400 tons per trip). That is pretty expensive on a per ton basis. Maybe it makes sense in certain aspects. Fro...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Current fuel tanks do not cost half the price of a ship hull per ton. The Drop tank usage for shipping cargo only makes sense if the drop tank survives for multiple uses. Otherwise you are spending 10 million in drop tank to ship 2.8 million in cargo. (assuming 400 tons of fuel being replaced with 4...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

I just looked at high guard again and they removed a very important line from the final version. Drop Tanks fail if you roll less than an 8. In the earlier versions of the book this risk was removed once the tank was TL 14 or above. That line has been removed. This could make for expensive travel if...

Re: Is there a place that is culturally cybernetic?

One of my players in my Drinax campaign took a look at the rules and when the group split a bunch of money they had earned he went off to a high tech medical facility and had augmentation installed. He spent a small fortune buying all the skills for his wafer jack and is now pretty much able to do m...

Re: Sensors in starship combat

The stealth attacks and stealth ability of ships reminds me of submarine warfare where shots are from a general heading and cause chaos and destruction on the defending ship. If the stealth effect holds the defenders will indeed be shooting into the dark and hoping to hit.
