I think the characteristic rolls were tossed aside, because many playable races had characteristics with associated characteristic rolls exceeding 100%. That being said, the solution begins characters too weak for my tastes.

The next big step in BRP is surely DBRP which should be out till Xmas I think Mmm, I'll believe this one when I see it. In searching the web earlier this year for any info on DBRP, I found posts and discussions ranging back nearly three years, all saying essentially "it looks like it should be comi...

Outstanding point (both of you), especially for those of us who have left Glorantha long ago, and wanted a newer, revised, RQ3 format. I suspect that played a large part in the equation for Mongoose licensing RQ -- they can count on additional sales of Glorantha material to HQ and RQ (not MQ) player...

Actually I think d20 was the final outcome of TSR's original anymosity vs. companies that attempted to make products that could fit in with D&D. When Judges Guild stuff stopped being applicable to AD&D Second Edition, the idea that players were encapsulated within a single game system really started...

A character could have things like. Brave +2 Recurring nightmares Good memory Sense of Duty: protect the children Those are relatively new innovations, but not necessarily good ones. I remember how little I use to reference the RQ3 rules, except to be inspired by an image or clever paragraph. Latel...

Re: MRQ review in Roolipelaaja (Roleplayer) magazine, Finlan

The latest issue of Roolipelaaja was delivered today, and has a two page review of the new RuneQuest. The review isn't all that positive, I have to say. For score MRQ get's 4/5 stars for production values, 2,5/5 stars for content and 3/5 stars overall. I'm very surprised that MRQ get's that high of...

Do you seriously think the numbers in the preview are the result of meticulous study and research? Absolutely not. RQ is not hard-core simulationism. It definitely has simulationist aspects, but it was still willing to leave a lot of room for relativism. I'd bet a lot of money they aren't. They are...

I know that MRQ is based off of previous editions of RuneQest, but still, it is its own beast. How much discussion can one have about houserules for a game that isn't even at the store yet?

Just being curious.

You know I was just going to post that maybe those abilities at the end of the preview might be a taste of what one can expect in Runequest Companion. (or whichever supplement deals with incredibly powerful characters)

I confess that I have a fondness for feats and similar special abilities; the slow accretion of an extra few percentiles on a skill here or there may be more realistic, but there's something -- IMO -- simply rather fun about picking up some 'signature move' type abilities along the way. Let's just ...

I'm totally cool with fatigue systems. They're always options, IMO, as mechanics such as these rarely appear in monster/NPC stat-blocks, and when they appear in adventures, it's usually as an illustrative example of the mechanics and rarely as a scenario challenge. What I don't like are those specia...

Re: Magic Systems in Glorantha

So far we've had a preview of Rune Magic, which looks like a reworking of the old Battle/Spirit magic. In fact, doing a comparison of the new spell descriptions with those in RQ3 reveals almost identical sentence structure, with only some word re-ordering. I think this is not quite correct. Battlem...

I'd guess that all spells are rituals. Few spells are castable in combat, and not without a terrible price. I recall the TSR Lanhkmar. While they did not do anything innovative (like offer spell lists other than thoses in the 1E Player's Handbook), they did modify the casting time for all spells upw...

RQ3 - Special Successes (Or criticals) with impaling weapons impaled. There was a chance, that the weapon would get stuck in the opponent, and combatant would have to take an action in subsequent rounds to remove the weapon.

Speculating purely on page count, I suspect the cult information will be similar (man I hope!) to RQ2 - presenting only Orlanth and Kyger Litor. However, I'm guess that the magic rules will have enough information to either directly map your Humakti's magic or find it's new equivalent.

Not a fan of RQ3 sorcery, then? Wulf However, I would much prefer a system that allows you to cast spells with a different magnitude, to vary it's power. That's RQ3 Sorcery in a nutshell. I'm reasonably certain that the attributes you saw in the Rune Sample are there to seperate duration spe...

I don't know about the posters theory. While it is true that in our days, fast-adding/division in the head was a sign of a agile mind, and often lead to such interesting hobbies as RPGs (where such skill was often necessary), it does not necessarily follow that those same skills are what the next ge...

the horns of the rune are less exagerated than I've seen before. In Gods of Glorantha and RQ3, the horns come out of the circle at the 9 and 3 position instead of 10 and 2, and they curved more. I'm glad to see all the runes return (with slight variations in their depictions as shown in the sample)

Okay. So far so good. That looks good, though the presence of a "metal" rune is a bit iffy, especially as it seems to enhance the lately invented iron. Happy with the preview. Whoah! I totally missed the implication there. However, I don't know about it being invented lately. The dwarves have had i...

Wow!

Darkness RuneTouched is *really* powerful! Then again, most of my campaigns were troll-centric, so my opinion on how powerful Darksense is (for ambushes, especially against non-darksense opponents) might be a little skewed.
