Re: State of Mongoose 2019: Legend

The news that things are moving forward is good. Hopefully we'll see at least one or two new releases for Legend in late 2019!

Re: INT and POW of Animals

It's worth pointing out that the concept of Fixed INT has a very long history in D100 games. I'm pretty sure it goes right back to RQI in the late 1970s, but I don't have the book in front of me.

Re: How would it work?

This is not a model that ancient or medieval societies adopted as it is a recipe for perpetual political instability. When a new ruler ascends to the throne, they are not going to want surviving siblings around who have a legal basis to challenge their legitimacy through rebellion. The closest paral...

Re: Armour Enchantment

The MRQ II version is at the bottom of the first column on p101 of the Arms and Equipment Guide. It is very similar to the text in the Arms of Legend sourcebook. This is cut down slightly from the version of the Armourblessing Enchantment on p40 of the MRQI Companion. Personally, I'd be tempted to a...

Re: Armour Enchantment

I'd possibly re-write the rules for Armouring Enchantment to clarify these points. Here's a rough draft of a new version: This enchantment increases the armour points of an object. Each Magic Point invested in the enchantment bestows one AP upon the object. If used on a living creature, it increases...

Re: State of Legend

Work continues on Cities of Legend: Stormhaven. Whether it fits with Matt's ideas of what he'd like to do with Legend I don't know but I do know that once I've finished the conversion I will approach Matt and see if he's still interested The answer is going to be yes, but we have a graphics backlog...

Whether it fits with Matt's ideas of what he'd like to do with Legend I don't know but I do know that once I've finished the conversion I will approach Matt and see if he's still interested and if so, when it would likely get published. I believe Alex...

Re: What levels would you suggest?

The dynamics of combat in Legend / Mythras are different to those of D&D. Not in a bad way, but the differences can trip you up if you aren't prepared for them. For one thing, a large number of low-powered bad guys can easily overwhelm a powerful character by sheer weight of numbers. This can be a n...

Re: State of Legend

There is a market for a universal D100 system now that Chaosium has discontinued the BRP product line. Mythras may end up filling that gap, but at the moment it is vacant.

Re: State of Legend

I was looking at doing 'Portuguese conquestador' style games. Is the renaissance version worth looking at or shall I just wing it with the legend rules? I'm well up on the historical and arms for the period, just looking for extra 'flavour' really. Renaissance would be good, but Pirates of Legend h...

It has spurred me on to want to write up my Legend: Ancient Stones settings into a proper book. Might take me a while!
Please do - I'd be very interested to see this!

Re: State of Legend

Personally, I don't expect Mongoose to support this system. If they do, fine, if not, that's OK too. The entire system is SRD now, so I don't NEED Mongoose. I can publish my own stuff and keep the system alive that way. While I agree with what you are saying, it would be nice to see Mongoose produc...

Re: State of Legend

Yeah, I think anyone who is looking for new material will have to convert Mythras (RQ6) material that is being published. Legend and Mythras (RQ 6) are such close cousins that this is trivial to do during play - you can use Legend material in your Mythras game too. This is a good thing for both sys...

Re: State of Legend

http://blog.mongoosepublishing.co.uk/?p=849 Not a single word about Legend. Not. A. Single. Word. Not one. Not a mention in passing, not a breath, not a 'we're doing nothing with Legend in 2018, but haven't forgotten.' Its as though the game doesn't exist and never did exist. It's certainly disappo...

Re: Spells of Legend

Yeah, I hear you on this, but I think that if you don't make stuff explicit in the spell, it leave it open to interpretation which leads to argument which leads to rules lawyering which leads to me banging my head on the table. :) In my own personal Legend variant, I have made it explicit. You need...

Re: Spells of Legend

And here's a simple but terrifying Divine Magic spell: Accelerate Aging Instant, Touch, Rank (Priest), Resist (Resilience) This spell accelerates the aging of a single target creature. The target creature ages 1D4 years per point of Magnitude. The normal physical effects of aging apply. The victim a...

Re: Spells of Legend

It's things like this that have made us move to Mithras where the common magic spells aren't quite so uber as Legend's common magic versions. In my own games, I draw a distinction between between Common Magic and Battle Magic. Battle Magic is not a discrete form of magic. It is a term applied to Co...

Re: Spells of Legend

As a compromise, how about something like this: Battle Cry Magnitude 1, Progressive, Duration (Special) The caster shouts a loud battle cry when casting this spell. They must have a close combat weapon in their hands, ready to attack. For a number of rounds equal to the spell's Magnitude, double the...

Not so sure about Battle Cry and Bladesharp, Battle Cry affects the person and Bladesharp affects the weapon.
Yes...that was essentially my reasoning too.

I'd make Battle Cry incompatible with Fanaticism and Berserker, but allow it to be used with Bladesharp.
That's a good point.
