Re: Spells of Legend

Maybe there should be two options - a sorcery version that provides an unnatural extension to the caster's lifespan and a more modest Common Magic variant like this? The latter option does nicely reflect the folklore surrounding Taoist monks, Yoga masters, and Western mystics. If you live an aesceti...

Re: Spells of Legend

Venom Breath Instant, Magnitude 1, Progressive This spell allows the caster to exhale a greenish-yellow cloud of poisonous gas. Creatures in a cone-shaped area in front of the caster must evade or suffer the effects of the venom. The blast of poison gas has a range in metres equal to the spell’s Ma...

Re: Spells of Legend

Good stuff, though I do see anti-ageing magic as more of a sorcery thing myself. I thought about this myself. The problem with making it a Sorcery spell is that the caster can use Manipulation to affect multiple targets or further extend the duration. Perhaps we need a Sorcery spell allowing the ca...

Re: Spells of Legend

I expect this spell to be a little controversial. It reflects something appearing in folklore around the world, but might be a little crazy for common magic: Slow Ageing Duration Special, Magnitude 1, Progressive This rare spell curtails the ageing process, increasing the longevity of the caster. Th...

Re: Spells of Legend

And here's another Common Magic spell... Eavesdrop Duration 5, Magnitude 1 The caster can use this spell to eavesdrop on distant conversations. The spell filters out distractions and ambient noise. For the duration of the spell, the caster can hear a single conversation within a radius equal to his ...

Re: Spells of Legend

I've been working on some new spells for the upcoming release and thought I'd try to share one each day. Here's the first one - a straightforward bit of Common Magic: Suppress Scent Duration Special, Magnitude 1, Progressive This spell removes all odours from a single living creature for a period of...

Re: Entry-Level Game: Legends of Adventure

How are you going to handle Magic Skills? Are you going to reduce it to a single skill per magic type (e.g. Common Magic, Divine Magic, Sorcery)? Or are you just going to have a single Magic skill?

Re: Entry-Level Game: Legends of Adventure

Are you planning to publish this variant or develop it as private house rules? How do you plan to differentiate it from lightweight d100 implementations such as GORE and OpenQuest? For skills, you can consider some Advanced Skills to be specialisations of Common Skills. For example, Oratory and Sedu...

Re: Legend OGL

I wonder if Mongoose would be happy for somebody to create an SRD website - it's technically legal under the OGL, but we don't want to cannibalize sales of the official game.

Re: OGL and Translation

Foreign language publishing rights are a weird area - many RPG publishers license the rights to produce material in other languages to local third-party publishers. Some RPG systems produced under the OGL have trademark compatibility licenses limiting the ability of third-parties to publish their ow...

Re: Legend OGL

Someone should really convert the main open content books to a DOC or RTF. I've done this, but have kept it for private use. I've also got my own custom variant. My changes mostly involve clarification and the addition of a few extra features I need for my campaign. Here are a few sample pages from...

Re: List of Legend OGL Games

It might be useful to categorise these based on whether they contain Open Game Content or not. Don't forget Raiders of Rl'yeh . Mystical Throne Entertainment produced a series of historical supplements for Legend including: Ultimate Guide to the Mongol Empire Ultimate Roman Legions Guide Ultimate Th...

Re: Spells of Legend

I've kept creating new spells for Legend and have an updated version of this work if folks are still interested. If I post this, I may need to remove or rework a few things that were subsequently published elsewhere (even though everything in the earlier versions was technically released as OGC...)

Re: State of Mongoose 2019 & 2020: Legend

He doesn't think that the OGL will stand up to a serious legal challenge in the courts, as non-D20 implementations are outside the scope, from what I have seen. Back around 2000, WoTC sponsored the creation of the independent Open Gaming Foundation to support non-D20 use of the OGL. Indeed, Ryan Da...

Re: State of Mongoose 2019 & 2020: Legend

Maybe not. Let's hope that someone picks it up and runs with it. It deserves a good treatment and support. I agree. I still think there is room in the market for a game with a complexity level between that of OpenQuest and that of Mythras. The new edition og Runequest: Adventures in Glorantha comes...

Re: State of Mongoose 2019: Legend

That was sort of the idea. However, Merrie England:Robyn Hode has nothing to do with the Robin of Sherwood TV Series, I hasten to add. There was a recent episode of the Grognard Files podcast discussing the influence of the Robin of Sherwood TV Series on the British RPG scene of the 1980s. They act...
