The veneer of 4e has worn off for me as well. In the end it seems that the system only rewards the monster-bashing playstyle. Conan D20 and it's brethren have a healthy future ahead I think. My dislike of the system aside, I think WOTC had to do something about the PDF piracy. It's now at the point ...

I'm very much against making tactics that any competent person should be able to attempt 'special' inthat you have to spend points specialy to get it. If anyone should be able to attempt it, and you're going to cover it in the rules then, well, let them attempt it. Stopping them just isn't IMHO the...

Ok I voted 3rd Edition AH (some of you are shuddering I'm sure - I even liked the artwork! :o ) But that will change I'm sure once I've gotten a hold of the other sourcebooks and a great setting.

They sure don't want to encourage any muslims to play. lol! good point. The name is trying to evoke the elder days of d&d (and from your reaction I'd say it does so successfully!) It essentially takes the 3.5 mechanics and backwards applies them to D&D Basic edition. So once again Elf, Dwarf and Ha...

You know what I'm thinking? Granted, I haven't put this into play yet, but hey. If you have a skill over 100% in anything you are a badass. If you are over 100% and you are opposed by someone who is not at your badass level, you're probably going to make them look like a schmuck. Even if you do muc...

Regarding the problems along the lines of "Can a STR 15 person carry a SIZ 16 person?", the simplest mechanism is to use Opposed rolls of Characteristicx5%. So, STR 15 vs SIZ 16 requires an Opposed Roll of 75% vs 80%, using the standard Opposed Roll rules. The same can apply for POW vs POW, DEX vs ...

Although there is a little bashing going on I think that there is a lot of constructive criticism here or simply even objective observations being made. Amen. Abstraction sucks because it doesn't give you a baseline to use when making judgements. How tall is Size 9? Can she (I have a female Acrobat as a test character) reach that shelf 1.83m (approx. 6ft) up above to get the magical pie, or will she need to climb to get it? Edit: Er, what atgxtg said... ...

Let's see. So far I'm, thinking of the following possiblities: Active (Full) Parry: No damage. Beat: Knock attacker's weapon aisde for penatlty to his defense (or just cost one of his reaction?) Bind: Lock weapons. No attacks with weapon until some steps back or pushes the foe back. Disarm: Like fo...

Re: MRQ Combat - 'By the book' or 'According to Mr. Sprange'

I'm going with the rulebook initially - I don't want to mess with the formula until I've tried it out a few times. After that if there is a problem, whatever system I go with will: Have players elect to defend or not before knowing the results of the attack. Not transform failed attacks into success...

Star Wars was one of the first settings I wished for when the discussion about settings for the OGL MRQ rules began. After having GMed BRP and BRP clones since 83, I am positive that MRQ or any new incarnation of BRP would be very well suitable for Star Wars. In fact so, much more than d20 or d6. I...

They way I describe would be to have an opposed roll of CONx5 (60) vs the Potency (75) as opposed rolls are described in the MRQ rules. These rolls seem to work pretty well until halving is involved. This preserves the MRQ way of doing things. Yeah sorry, perhaps you mis-understood or I worded it b...

Re: A suggestion for those who miss the resistance table

Haters of the halving rule could just Lower the multiplier if one side would result in a score of over 100. For example a 21 STR vs. 16 STR would result in target numbers of 84 vs.64 (multiplier lowered to X4). Sorry Ruiki, but fair is fair. Changing the mulitplers to x4, x3 or less is the same eff...

Re: Resilience Skill?

You just defeated your own argument. Old people get better and better at resilience, and then one day BOOM! - it is halved, they get sick and die. I guess the "halving" rule does cut people's lifespan in half. One way or another. Of the issues real and bogus that have been raised ab...
