Re: Battlefield Evolution query
Thanks. I was looking at some house rules I did a while back for using Battlefield Evo to do more detailed dogfighting for Babylon 5 fighters. The situation came up where one unit was caught in a fire zone centred on a second, and I wasn't actually sure if the first unit was eligible to react as wel...

Battlefield Evolution query
Just came up reading through the old books, and I can't find an answer. "Whenever an enemy unit completes a shoot action against one of your units" is a trigger for a reaction, but what does this actually mean? ~ Only the unit that the model you initially targeted (i.e. the one the fire zone is meas...

Re: What's the point of a large bay?
They don't. They have the same damage dice but get a DM+4 vs big ships and get a +1 on each damage die (exactly as if they were a turret with two weapons fitted) Large Bays do have one advantage over smaller guns - they can cause critical damage to big ships (and with a +4 dm that's pretty likely). ...

Would anyone be interested in a game here on the forums?
Kind of tempted to try High Programmers (even if it is an older edition) - the Committee for Drastic and Unnecessarily Lethal Solutions seems like a perfect way to pass the time...

Re: Social Distancing? Play Traveller Online!
Especially with the whole damage-changes-stats, a 'smart' character sheet is very useful for traveller, so I'd second this thought.

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
The only officer involved was Lt. Santino the Officer of the Watch who failed to do his job. ....Not entirely out of character, to be fair. I'm mostly concerned with forcing an engineer for every ship, but no service crew for very small ships such as the Scout. That makes sense to me. If you're qua...

Re: What would you like to see?
This might be counter to the premise of Traveller, or perhaps I should just start reading the Judge Dredd supplement, but I would love a Campaign with a much much smaller setting scope and much more streamlined background reading. Like one system, or a localized multisystem adventure about a single...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
Hello locarno24 My take of the event is that the sensor information being analyzed was done using passive systems not an active system like RADAR. Of course I am probably a bit biased since subs tend to use passive systems to detect and track contacts. Yes, the computer did note that there was some...

Re: A couple of quick questions
Congrats on your purchase! If you end up enjoying the box even half as much as I do, you're gonna be one happy Traveller :) It's actually another person in our group who's got it, but yes, it look great. Fleshing out a single class of ship is always a really good way to engage people (I love the Ha...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
The Honor Harrington series, actually a short story about her midshipman cruise, does agree with your analysis that the ship's computer handles the duties of gathering the sensor data, analyzing, and at a set threshold alerting the watch standers of something that needs attention. At the same time ...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
In terms of engineering, once you reach thirty five tonnes default, you should have an engineer onboard. I kind of see it the other way around. You should - if you have a fusion reactor and drives - have an engineer, on the understanding that on a small ship 'engineer' may mean 'one of the crew has...

Re: Updated High Guard Ships
Indeed. Though it's not a direct model even then - the original Gazelle wasn't capable of 6g thrust, even 'clean'. And - as noted, taking off the drop tanks means it only has jump-3 (more than enough to keep up with a merchant formation) and thrust-6 (which matches pretty much any pirate vessel, lik...

Re: Updated High Guard Ships
That argument applies to most of the MgT2 Core and High Guard ships, if not all of them. They are not anything close to optimized for the MgT2 ruleset. They are attempts at faithful re-creations of the CT ships. Indeed. Even leaving aside some mistakes, there are some really weird decisions in some...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
Depends on the version of the game. 1st edition Mongoose Traveller had the following crew for a capital ship specifically picked out: ~ Command - namechecking a bunch of deparment heads ~ Engineering - pretty much as the current rules ~ Gunnery - pretty much as per current rules ~ Flight - specifica...

Re: A couple of quick questions
So...have acquired the element cruiser book. I have to say there's some interesting stuff in here for missile combat (it's nice that the "advanced missile operations" options mean the gunner skill of a missile officer actually matters). A couple of quick queries or clarifications: Sub-command centre...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions
That's one big change from 1e to 2e - 1e has the assumption that 'ship's troops' are part of the standard complement. As to the captain question, obviously every ship has a commander, but I don't know if the 3I has the "the captain is called a captain even if they're not a captain and no one else is...

Re: A couple of quick questions
another reason I should probably add that to my next bundle of stuff.
Big ship fights seem to boil down to flinging ridiculous numbers of missiles at one another so quickly that more detail in missile combat would be very welcome!

Re: A couple of quick questions
When a missile salvo reaches its target, the missile makes an attack roll as normal. However, the Gunner skill of the Traveller(s) that fired the salvo is not used as a DM. Note that the missile salvo attacks, not the ship or any specific gunner. The gunner is not involved. The launching ship's gun...

Re: What would you like to see?
I’m not sure why them being or not being a part of the navy would be relevant either..? Unless you’re thinking about this part: Disregarding in-universe canon, if you had a marine equivalent of the Element Cruiser campaign, then which roles are filled by marines and which by navy characters would b...
