Re: January Playtest

Not that I know of. It must be very rare, anyway - most fortified batteries had a very limited 'sweep', so turning them on an inland target wouldn't be practical, and it'd be relatively rare for trained artillery crews to be wandering around looking for guns to fire, so using them effectively aside ...

Coastal Invasion scenario: ~ How much do Landing Boats and Transport Aircraft cost? Do I get "enough to carry the force" for free? ~ Since all big gun emplacements have to be placed on an objective, what happens if the attacker successfully captures that objective? Assuming, for example, that a 490 ...

Re: Cruisers vs a Single Battleship

Fair enough. Is there a feel that the Arethusa would be totally unable to engage a destroyer with gunfire, as a result, though? Because that feels like too harsh a restriction. The "-1 for speed, -1 for destroyer" represents a huge break-point in the difficulty of hitting a target, because even if y...

Re: Cruisers vs a Single Battleship

So....yeah. To see if what I assumed was true was true, we had a quick playtest with the Bismarck versus.....basically most of the V- and W- class destroyers ever build (24 of them, in fact). And yes, the result was pretty much as expected. For the first two turns, the Battleship was unable to hurt ...

Re: January Playtest

Doing the setup for a quick game - noticed a typo.

Fleet lists, page 31 - Hood-class Battlecruiser.
Port Torpedoes state 10" range whilst Starboard Torpedoes state 12" range. They're MkIVs, the same as on the Admiralty Destroyers, so it should presumably be 10"

Re: Cruisers vs a Single Battleship

Battleships have two very big vulnerabilities - torps and aircraft. Yes and no. Battleships' big guns have a massive blind spot for destroyers - a fast-moving destroyer head-on at long range is basically immune to turreted guns, and even once the range comes down it's going to be a rare case that a...

Re: January Playtest

As a personal view, I think the former makes sense. The swordfish aren't materially different from the ones I'm going to use in the game after, playing a generic "victory at sea" battle. So giving them extra 'punch' in this scenario seems wierd. By comparison, the Italian warships are in a different...

Re: January Playtest

Something's still wierd with the Taranto scenario. Royal Navy Fleet 5 Flights of Fairey Swordfish (each Flight armed with either Torpedoes or Bombs). Victory and Defeat The Royal Navy gains a Major Victory if it manages to cripple or sink at least one battleship and at least one Flight moves off the...

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

1) How many weeks supply does that MEU have? (I don't know) Depends how many you send it with. This will very with TL - the transition from large magazines to rechargeable power cells for weapon ammunition, for example, but also the rise of every-single-thing-you-carry-having-a-battery-in-it. In Op...

Spaceships: Armaments, Sandcasters and High Explosives 1. How much of that fits into 0.7 cubic metres? 2. Since there is no air resistance in space, you could drop rectangles. 3. Laser guided kits are optional. The Mk82 - the 500lb version, and pretty much the lightest - is a couple of metres long ...

Who does the duke invite? Who attends under the "other interested parties" portion of the summit invitation? A lot of the former question will depend on "who's left"! The planet has just experienced a nuclear war, after all.... Interested parties would be: ~ Whoever's succeeded the previous Baron ~...

Re: Could it happen?

No. Because if it's a full democracy, you can't have a queen. Can someone in one legal persona commit something which is treason against either the office they hold or another legal persona of themselves? Yes. The law is what it is. If they get a say in whether the prosecution is followed through, i...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

Meson weapons aren't a bad one to point out. You certainly couldn't use it to snipe individuals (not without massively more sophisticated meson weapons than you get at TL15, anyway - the old Secrets Of The Ancients campaign mongoose did featured guards with Meson Sniper Rifles) but a smaller weapon ...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

At TL15, you can smash your way in, but not fast enough to save hostages with a gun to their head. Stunners are basically line-of-sight handguns and vulnerable to the same defences as bullets (body armour, cover, etc). Psionics could work, but as noted, (a) they're not allowed and (b) jumping 'down'...

Re: What do Troubleshooter jumpsuits protect against?

This could be a feature instead of a bug. The players think that their jumpsuits protect them against laser fire of the same colour, but the game masters know differently. That's exactly how we've done it. When it first came up the players ended up wondering whether they'd been handed defective equ...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

what I have always found odd is that there are no "heavy beam laser or heavy pulse laser" barbettes. That seems much more OTU friendly and gives us options for no radiation weapons. But alas... Agreed. Laser barbettes and even bays are possible in T5. The basic formula seems to be "add a die of dam...

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

Pretty much this.
If you didn't report it, then - as far as the law is concerned - it didn't happen.
Taking any kind of revenge for it is therefore not permitted, even in a system whose legal system might acknowledge the concept of 'blood money' or 'vigilante justice', and most don't.
