Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

1) How many weeks supply does that MEU have? (I don't know) Depends how many you send it with. This will very with TL - the transition from large magazines to rechargeable power cells for weapon ammunition, for example, but also the rise of every-single-thing-you-carry-having-a-battery-in-it. In Op...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Spaceships: Armaments, Sandcasters and High Explosives 1. How much of that fits into 0.7 cubic metres? 2. Since there is no air resistance in space, you could drop rectangles. 3. Laser guided kits are optional. The Mk82 - the 500lb version, and pretty much the lightest - is a couple of metres long ...

Re: diplomatic summit

Who does the duke invite? Who attends under the "other interested parties" portion of the summit invitation? A lot of the former question will depend on "who's left"! The planet has just experienced a nuclear war, after all.... Interested parties would be: ~ Whoever's succeeded the previous Baron ~...

Re: Could it happen?

No. Because if it's a full democracy, you can't have a queen. Can someone in one legal persona commit something which is treason against either the office they hold or another legal persona of themselves? Yes. The law is what it is. If they get a say in whether the prosecution is followed through, i...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

Meson weapons aren't a bad one to point out. You certainly couldn't use it to snipe individuals (not without massively more sophisticated meson weapons than you get at TL15, anyway - the old Secrets Of The Ancients campaign mongoose did featured guards with Meson Sniper Rifles) but a smaller weapon ...

Disregarding the (let's be honest, irrelevant) 'wrapper'. knows that over a few days past 4 years he definitely committed at least 500 acts of physical child-abuse and suspects him of committing closer to 1,400 acts of physical child-abuse over a fortnig...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

At TL15, you can smash your way in, but not fast enough to save hostages with a gun to their head. Stunners are basically line-of-sight handguns and vulnerable to the same defences as bullets (body armour, cover, etc). Psionics could work, but as noted, (a) they're not allowed and (b) jumping 'down'...

Re: What do Troubleshooter jumpsuits protect against?

This could be a feature instead of a bug. The players think that their jumpsuits protect them against laser fire of the same colour, but the game masters know differently. That's exactly how we've done it. When it first came up the players ended up wondering whether they'd been handed defective equ...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

what I have always found odd is that there are no "heavy beam laser or heavy pulse laser" barbettes. That seems much more OTU friendly and gives us options for no radiation weapons. But alas... Agreed. Laser barbettes and even bays are possible in T5. The basic formula seems to be "add a die of dam...

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

Pretty much this.
If you didn't report it, then - as far as the law is concerned - it didn't happen.
Taking any kind of revenge for it is therefore not permitted, even in a system whose legal system might acknowledge the concept of 'blood money' or 'vigilante justice', and most don't.

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

Anyway, I think there are specific places and situations where piracy is viable even within the Imperium. But I also think they have to be taken on a case by case basis and some thought given to the who, the what and the why of each. Agree wholeheartedly. Piracy (and Privateering) can work, but any...

Re: Traveller Universe vs Star Wars vs Star Trek Tech ?

I don't think that is the case. Because, in general, players tend to create cliche (or trope) characters that don't belong in game settings. They just want to win, no matter the game setting. If you were talking about role-playing... real role-playing... then players would want to absorb everything...

Not true - a CA-type capital hull was 3,000 dTons, and the Command Bridge was available even to non-capital ships.

Re: Could it end his career and is it unitentional treason?

True, but that, as noted, depends on a given state's definition (in this case, Drinax's).

During absolute monarchies through history, a fair number of out-of-favour or politically inconvenient people have been put to death on charges of relatively ill-specified treason.

The problem being that his ideas are many times weirder then even mine and in his last session his players convinced Oleb to lend Cr 30 billion of Drinax's Royal Art Collection to Tobias Duke, then stole it, secretly returned it, Oleb got the insurance money then used it to buy A Super Fleet of 5 3...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

So creating an empire with violence and piracy is a good thing, but refrain from the excesses of the Sindalian Empire of old. No wiping out planetary populations. In fairness, Drinax - rather than Sindal - did largely avoid the 'bomb the uppity natives from orbit' school of diplomacy. It was only o...

Do starships have a little black box that survives the crash like airliners do? :D And here you are giving me grief about keeping nukes as a deterrent. One of the challenges of the Campaign is keeping track of the various Aslan clans, especially with their impossible names. Probably. Although "surv...

Re: [Drinax] What do the people on the floating palace do?

Don't forget Rachando's Bazaar and dealing with similar merchants. The comment about a 'neutral port' is a good one but Drinax also deals with (is forced to deal with) a trade in high-end luxury items.

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Ok, I get your concept now, even if I don’t agree wth it. I would argue that the tonnage for powerplant includes more than just the reactor, it also inclues access. And that the space allocated for low berths, for example, includes the room needed to get in and out of them and wiggle to the exit. Y...
