It's worth noting that this is a book about Power Armour rather than full fledged combat mechs. Stuff like the Marauders from Starship Troopers, the fighting suits from Forever War, or Elementals in BattleTech; and yes, Anime and Manga designs like the Hardsuits from Bubblegum crisis, Landmates from...

Umm, the topic is Powered Armor. An excellent point. :D For me, the line is drawn based on whether something looks like I'd find it in an anime. Heavy Gear is definitely a mecha combat game, but I think one could get away with putting them in Traveller because they have a very non-anime feel...

I run hot and cold on Reynold's books - though I've read everything he's done bar Zima Blue. I agree with Horus that his endings often leave a lot to be desired - I felt all the initial Revelation Space books bar Chasm city ended far too abruptly or inconclusively, and House of Suns fell into the sa...

rather than pick my three favourite, i've decided to pick three that have influenced my reading habits more than anything else: Cyberpunk: Neuromancer by William gibson Military SF: the BattleTech novels, but the major shout out goes to Wolves on the Border by Robert Charette, which is one of the mo...

But I can't imagine nuts and gum ever being a good thing ... :? It's a Simpsons reference. Grampa is sitting at the table bemoaning how nobody listens to the old, Lisa is similarly lamenting how nobody listens to the young, and then Homer walks in saying "I'm a male aged 18-42, everybody listens to...

The modular nature of Traveller means you don't need to makeover the entire rulebook, just put out a transhuman sourcebook. The core book is pretty much meant to be "the future of the 70s", much like Cyberpunk was "the future of the 80s" And I've been reading the Eclipse Phase rulebook - it's pretty...

Mecha and pop music go together like nuts and gum! Is that good or a bad thing, because I do know of this album and it's quite good: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stratos5 LBH Well, it depends on the pop music really. Though Macross Plus and Frontier both have amazing soundtracks on both the pop songs a...

Has anyone checked out the quick Start rules for the new BattleTech RPG that's out soon? It has some concepts similar to MGT (attributes above a certian level give a bonus to related skill rolls, for example) As for converting ships to Traveller, the detailed stats and construction rules BattleTech ...

Cool, a friend is thinking about running a Cowboy Bebop inspired cyberpunk game using some homebrew system based on either Shadowrun or Cyberpunk, and I'm trying to steer him in Traveller's general direction as it'd probably require less kitbashing. So the rules in the CSC may be enough for that sid...
