Re: Great Rift Adventure 2: Deepnight Endeavour

I have a fair number of top down vectors in Inkscape SVG format, a version back. They'll work with any SVG editor, though not necessarily without scaling. (But vectors scale without loss of quality.) I'll retrieve them from my backup server when I get a chance.

Re: Rulebook reprint

Request: it would be nice if for every version of every title, there were an errata file. For print versions, a full, detailed errata would be nice. For PDF versions, all that would really be necessary would be a list of page numbers with changes, so people who have printed some or all of their PDFs...

Re: Am I serious about starting Drinax or what?!

. . . Thanks for pointing that out. Since I did the Harrier, I've also created a 28mm modified Type-S scout and used orange poster board . . . You're welcome. And pictures of the finished sheets would be cool. I thought it might look cool to arrange multi-deck ships on stiff poster board in a stack...

Re: Nuclear Dampers & Particle Weapons

"To use a nuclear damper against a pure fusion bomb -- which isn't workable with current technology" If I remember correctly, a fusion bomb is initiated by detonating fission bomb within. The damper would inactivate the fission reaction preventing it from creating a fusion reaction. Exactly. If the...

Re: Fusion Power Plants

I observe that most things Traveller labels as TL8 are now current technology, with two big exceptions: - Fusion is entirely plausible as an energy source with current basic science, but remains beyond the reach of current technology. - Gravitic technology rests on basic science that is contrary to ...

Re: Imperial marines and battledress

One famous role for the Marines little mentioned in this thread is orbital assault. That's probably a job for purpose-built orbital assault launch ships. The only one of those that I recall seeing was a module for a Modular Cutter -- probably carried mostly by the armored version of the Modular Cutt...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

One point about asteroid mining in general is that in any viable asteroid belt, if asteroid mining is technologically workable, there will be at least one asteroid that is rich enough to wipe out the entire system's mineral markets for a multitude of mineral classes. The only thing that would allow ...

Re: Am I serious about starting Drinax or what?!

Cool stuff! If you're pasting the prints onto black poster board, any large black areas can be cut away, and leave the black one the poster board showing. Of if you have a laser printer and an inkjet, the areas that don't need color (if any; I can't view the full images on my phone) can go through t...

Re: Nuclear Dampers & Particle Weapons

Various sources describe nuclear dampers as devices that selectively strengthen or weaken the strong nuclear force. Strengthening it would have the effect of slowing down strong force reactions such as fission and alpha decay (but not beta decay; that's weak force). Weakening it would accelerate str...

Re: Nuts and bolts of the Imperium (gov't - how it works)

The way my history classes described the expansion of the Roman Empire was that they had trouble with a neighbor, and responded by conquering them, and using them as a buffer state against other potential threats. Then as the buffer state was incorporated as a part of the empire rather than just a b...

Re: Nuts and bolts of the Imperium (gov't - how it works)

One way to guess about what should be canon is to look at the creators of the game and setting. Marc Miller mustered out of the US Army, and went to Illinois State University in 1972, where he met by Rich Banner, Frank Chadwick, Loren Wiseman, John Harshman. They created GDW, and all but Banner were...

Re: Electronic banking & currency

There are a lot of scales of financial transactions that would each operate in their own way. In-system business would be electronic if the technology level allows; otherwise it would follow historical analogs. That's true at all levels, from personal grocery shopping to massive investments like an ...

This is kind of the idea behind the troupe system of Ars Magica , where characters can be out of action for months doing magical research. For communication between...

Re: Common Areas vs. Stateroom tonnage

If you want a really exhaustive treatment of common areas and the Mongoose books haven't covered something yet, take a look at the GURPS Travelle r books Starships and Space Stations . Their rules for power plants, drives, and weapons are different and not entirely compatible with Mongoose, but the ...

Just in case the official rules aren't complicated enough, I offer some house rules (from about a year ago) to make things more interesting.

Re: Electronic banking & currency

Here are two earlier discussions of this topic. The simple answer is that on worlds with sufficient tech level, electronic transactions are dominant for in-system business (and high law worlds may even ban cash). For inter-system transactions cash is dominant except for transactions so large that it...

Re: DIY advanced tech starship upgrades

I would argue that there's no need to expand a necessary skill that's used regularly, but not in a dramatic way. For example, the jump engineer uses the skill a lot, when the ship is activating jump, and everyday maintenance, but it's background. Boring? Maybe. But not on that rare day when Somethin...
