Re: Wealth and Tech Availabilty

. . . : Don't let your players make a killing importing high-tech goods to a low-tech world. I know this sounds like Opportunity (tm), but this is the Traveller universe. There's hundreds of thousands or millions of other free traders in the Imperium who are lean and hungry (and possibly desperate)...

Re: Let's Talk Grav-Ball

I actually like the idea of an old fashioned sport carrying on all the way into the far future. Blades are fairly common as part of Navy and Marine tradition, so one would expect fencing to be a common sport. Racing has never gone out of fashion; it could be on foot, swimming, muscle vehicle (cyclin...

Re: 5th Frontier War

I see the smiley by "misjump". But it's worth discussion. A misjump can be used as a ploy device, but it will feel wrong if it's too convenient. A misjump should almost always be bad news. For example, the crew might find itself in an empty hex, and spend the next two weeks running triple shifts on ...

Re: How do you pronounce "Vriterbei?"

I was going to answer, "Just like it's written." But Reynard is closest to how I'd answer without the snark.

"VREE-tear-bay-ee" or "VREET-air-bay-ee".

However, there may be documented rules for Zhodani accent placement out there, so it could be "vreet-air-BAY-ee" or something else.

Re: Low Berth Power Usage

I think the reason no technology level is noted for some items is that they are available at all levels for which they would be used. For example, the only place where one would use a low berth is a starship (or starship lifeboat), and low berths are available at all technology levels that are suffi...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - How many ships fly the trade routes

The best way to figure out trade volume is probably the system in GURPS Traveller Far Trader. Some of the on-line maps include a "world trade number" figure (WTN), and from that you can get a "bilateral trade number" (BTN), which is the sum of the WTNs minus a distance modifier. With that, you get t...

Re: Artificial gravity and acceleration

In the types of ships one might encounter in most Traveller adventures, not much besides missiles have more acceleration than 2 G. Thats not going to squish occupants, but a quick switch between compensators on and off might cause some blunt trauma injuries. Adventures with significant space combat ...

Re: Plot Idea..Wrangels Fleet..Fleet stuck in Exile

There's a large minority population of Vargr on Extolay , which one could explain with a story like that. So when an Imperial Navy admiral assigned to resolve the problem, he offers the Vargr fleet refuge in a high-Vargr region of Extolay. Unfortunately he didn't know that the Vargr there are proud ...

Thank you Steve I forgot that one mostly because the empire does allow labor camps for convicted criminals which is often abused by the more shall we say authoritian planet governments. You're welcome. And heck, the allowance for convict labor is often abused by some of the more authoritarian US st...

Re: So. Where are the Aliens

I wouldn't expect Droyne to use krinaytsyu as a punishment or shame thing. Instead, it's a carefully considered practical decision in response to changing conditions. For example: Leader Oyse: "Congratulations, everyone. Sport Edisk, we would have been lost without your resupply mission. Workers Yov...

Re: Cheap Colonial Hauler for Paltrysum

Another possibility would be a really old bulk cargo ship, Way Beyond what its original owners considered its useful life, reconditioned and sold to a new owner, use until the second owner considered it too much of a junker to continue using, possibly repeated a few more times. Based on a rumor abou...

Re: Do you allow psionics?

I see two objections to psionics: science and playability. In the case of science, we can dismiss it. But we can also regard it as something that depends on a basic science discovery we just haven't made yet, like jump. Maybe some people have psionic potential, but without the knowledge of how to tr...

Re: So. Where are the Aliens

There are four GURPS Traveller Alien Races books, which cover two races each in the first three books, and 20 in the fourth. There's also their Humaniti book, which covers a lot of minor human races and variant human races. (The latter are humans that have diverged, whether by extreme evolution or b...

Re: Radiation Trait?

. . . Particle beams aren't like atomic bombs - there's no fallout to worry about. Nuclear missiles are a different story I guess, In space, nuclear weapons aren't like nuclear weapons in atmosphere. Fallout is radioactive particulate matter that contaminates the area around a bomb detonation. Ther...

Re: Star Town

Glad to help. I'm not a walking encyclopedia of canon like Hans was, but I know the canon of classic and GURPS Traveller well. (And yes, some of GURPS Traveller is regular canon, not just canon to the no-rebellion alternate timeline.) I know some Milieu Zero too, but I mostly have to look up Rebelli...

Re: Star Town

According to canon: The starport of a Third Imperium is an area under the control of the Starport Authority. Imperial law applies; local law does not. A starport can be a highport, a downport, or both. A highport can be a single modular cutter module or a giant space station. A downport can be a fla...

Re: Inurin/The Borderland (Trojan Reach 2724)

That's a good write-up. If you want to proofread a bit more (for example, an "It's" that should be "its" assaulted my eyes), and fill in details that are typical of well-written world descriptions on the Traveller Wiki, I can add this as a non-canon description for the world there. If you have Word,...

Re: Pocket Battleship and Dreadnought

. . . In reality naval designers have to consider all kinds of things that players never do. Which is why, i think, the canon designs always seem so "boring" on paper if you compare them to the uber killer ships designed using the books. This is a very good point. Another point is that a lot of can...

Re: Supplement 14: Space Stations - Now on Drivethru!

Naturally, the size of the station does not have any limit - so it is entirely possible for a TL 15 space station to be built entirely circling its homeworld, even encasing it in a cage with the planet visibly spinning away inside it and vast regions to explore - the stationary polar command area, ...
