Re: Question About Quartering

That is a count or viscount, and has duties of rulership. Those can be delegated to local nobles or entrusted to civil service bureaucrats. But it also includes ceremonial obligations. A high noble is the face of the Imperium, and has to party with lower nobles anywhere they encounter them (pretty m...

That Gyrojet video is pretty cool. I wonder whether more advanced manufacturing would make the rounds more consistent.

Re: Players and their armor.

On the matter of personal appearances of emperors in battle, note that Arbellatra concluded the Emperors of the Flag era as Grand Admiral by leading defeat of Emperor Gustus, after which the Moot proclaimed her regent, and later Emperor. She was great×9 grandmother of Strephon, or eleven generations...

Re: Players and their armor.

If you're a Merchant with a weapons fetish -- something we see a lot in Traveller -- or mustered out military who just doesn't want to leave the firepower behind, there's always the gray market and black market. But those tend to be expensive. So how do you gain legal access to military grade hardwa...

Re: What's their realistic best option?

Run for the Solomani Confederation. If you move fast through the J-5 Trans-rift Route, you can get through Imperial space before the news gets out that your fleet is an enemy of the Imperium. And once you get to the Solomani Confederation, you'll be welcome (as long as you behave), because the Solom...

Re: New Starship Models From Foreven Shipyards!

I see that the price doesn't scale linearly. A pair of fighters, 10 dtons each, are $7, or 35 cents per dton. Your largest model, the 400 dton subsidized merchant, is $18, or 4.5 cents per dton. I looked again, and I see you're using the high detail plastic. That does sound like it would be nicer th...

Re: update ideas for classic adventure shadows

I haven't played it, but I read it closely with the intention of running it. The main trick is to keep nudging characters in the direction of the adventure, because if they go off the path you have to wing it for lack of published information about the world outside of the adventure, or the systems ...

Re: New Starship Models From Foreven Shipyards!

Are these cast, or 3D printed? If the latter, could they be printed at a larger scale for added cost? Or a fleet of smaller models? Double linear scale would mean eight times the print filament and print time, which makes really expensive miniatures, and might push a 3D model past the printer's leve...

Re: Players and their armor.

For military gear, you're looking at more like 10-20% per year, assuming you have access to the contractor that produces the parts. Is that 10% to 20% figure the light use figure I was describing, or the aggregate for all military gear, including things damaged or destroyed in combat, and replaceme...

Re: Players and their armor.

If you want to require maintenance with less bookkeeping, just set a flat percentage for device classes. I've spent around 1.2% (per year average) of my car's original cost on maintenance, so 1% is reasonable for gentle use of stuff. For computers that might be replacing screen scratch guards, or so...

Re: Hull design choices and some random suggestions.

Decorative fins are half the cost of aerodynamic fins and use no extra space. If the player does a drawing of the ship, they're free. Those could be official rules... They could. (Half the price of functional fins might be unnecessarily expensive though.) There are plenty of places in game rules wh...

Re: High and Dry: 567-908

I sort of rebelled at the line "Nothing of interest here". This is a whole world, a whole system! Even a system that consists entirely of uninhabited airless worlds has things of interest to someone. There might be wreckage of ships destroyed in the Third Frontier War that would be valuable to some...

Re: Players and their armor.

Indeed, any armor more complicated than Cloth is pretty much a vehicle. Combat Armor is a human shaped vehicle powered by the user's muscles, with (because it's also a vacc suit) the addition of a lot of life support systems such as oxygen supply, CO2 removal, waste handling, temperature control. It...

Re: Players and their armor.

If you want to separate the players from their armour, another option is always through normal wear and tear ! . . . I assign hip point values to things that are likely to take damage, like armor. When a character gets hit, but armor stops the damage, it takes just a little bit of that damage itsel...
