Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Spaceships: Accommodations and Excursion Bay 1. An excursion bay is designed to allow safe access to the external environment, whether that is space, an airless world’s surface or the parking area of a starport. The bay is designed for decontamination, maintenance and preparation of equipment as we...

Starwarships: Armaments, Spinal Mounts and Arsenal Ships 1. First off, a warship is a platform for weapon system(s), primary, secondary or otherwise. 2. The best choice for a spinal mount is a meson gun, but the concept is to make a really cheap starwarship. 3. Largest railgun spinal mount is twent...

Re: Torpedo Boats in Traveller

Hard to predict, but opportunity cost of having a healthy individual contributing to the Domestic Gross Product probably outweighs the costs, personal, familial and social, that looking after that individual entails. There might be genetic reasons you couldn't reboot the individual's DNA to fix thes...

Re: Travellers Needed - The Future of Traveller

LoTech would be an interesting experiment, since I suspect most of us will project our experiences on it; you could include the Great Patriotic War vehicles and weapons.

Re: Torpedo Boats in Traveller

Since ion weapons tend to be our equivalent of electromagnetic pulses, percentage of those weapon systems would go up if the number of drones encountered do as well.

It tends to come down to simple economics, can you make it cheaper to operate human crewed spacecraft?

Re: Morale Checks in Mongoose Traveller 2E?

I think it comes down to more a question of involuntary actions. If the character is plainly terrorized, it's either flight or fight, with a possibly a third reaction being paralyzed. Not likely in Traveller that you will meet either a dragon or Nyarlathotep. https://n3rdcore.it/wp-content/uploads/2...

1. Considering how paranoid we're getting about artificial intelligence, having one that self destructs through natural causes does seem ideal. 2. Considering how advanced medical science would be, there would be very few physically handicapped humans in interstellar societies. 3. Moving on from Rob...

Re: Torpedo Boats in Traveller

1. Considering the tonnage of bombs that landed on Vietnam, it would probably have to be about not wasting the ammunition available, rather than the expense; as I recall, the storage depots only emptied of dumb bombs from the Great Patriotic War only in the Gulf War. 2. As regards Traveller drones, ...

Re: Travellers Needed - The Future of Traveller

Classic Traveller pre Mercenary would be basically Dumarest and some of scout/trading based novels. Mercenary added the then existing military science fiction literature, such as Pournelle's CoDominium. High Guard would be Flandry, and somewhat Star Warsesque. Might have elements of Japanese anime. ...

Re: 2022 update -- dogfight rules change?

If we use dogfighting years, you can launch a torpedo or missile every six seconds, which means that you could empty your magazines before six minutes are up.

Re: 2022 update -- dogfight rules change?

As far as I can tell, for cruiser and battleship sized spaceships, the most dangerous opponent is a Why Wing with ion torpedoes.
