Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

If that's from Chapter One, my gut instinct says that's the default price for default drives created by Chapter One.

Sometimes, I think, for non player characters, you add another dice, and get fisheyes.

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

Well, I'm not going to go out on a limb and insist this was the intent of the author, because, plotholes.

However, I will state that it is the literal interpretation of the given algorithm.

It does ensure that the more advantages you claim, there is a substantial premium.

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

I interpret this somewhat differently, and I'll simplify the equation: Jump drive . factor four .. technology level eleven ... early prototype .... late jump .... increased size ..... two hundred twenty five tonnes ... cost .... 1'650 megabux .. technology level twelve ... prototype .... increased s...

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

Costs and tonnage have to based on default before applying the percentages, and then calculated.

Otherwise, it's barely worth it.

That means the cost per tonne increase as the tonnage itself shrinks.

Might depend on policy.

If the ability is regarded as a threat to the state, the bearer may become accident prone.

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

Besides the cost of the item in question, the trade offs tend to be smaller reactors (due to energy requirements) for energy efficiency, more space for fuel efficiency, and (somewhat) more space for decreased size. Since only three advantages are permitted, double slots tend to ensure that you can't...

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

That is more or less true.

I chose to make the Victory jump modules fuel efficient to make them compatible with drive modules built with older technology level manufacture processes.

Drug traffickers moving shipments from South America via maritime routes through Central America and Mexico are constantly changing strategies to avoid detection and seizure. In a recent article, Costa Rican web daily CR Hoy reported on a new tactic that allows traffickers to leave cocaine shipment...

Disadvantages should always cost more to get rid of, than any benefit they gave in acquiring them during character generation.

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

The only thing that may be overpowered would be the weapon tweaks, the rest are livable and could make them subject to customized replacement parts.

Re: Ship Help

How about the Patrol Corvette? Assuming some military action is involved.

If the business plan involves trade, you could get a bank loan to underwrite a new starship precisely specced to requirements, if guaranteed by one or two prominent patrons.

Next up would be the subsidized liner.

With salvage, you have to use existing components, especially if you want to mix and match. It's quite possible that you can get the shell of an existing starship, and reinstall the removed components through auction sites and salvage yards, players getting very excited if they discover gems that ar...

Just like in the Ironclad era, quick firing six inchers are meant to shoot up the superstructure, possibly setting it on fire, harassing the bridge, and knocking out rangefinders.

Re: Ship Help

Depends on intent and need; if it's a refit of an existing ship, it would probably cost more than it's worth, and since the alphabet drives are no longer with us, the engines might well have to be custom built. If money isn't that much of an object, get hold of a Broadsword mercenary cruiser, with t...

Re: A lot of worlds over 1g gravity. How do 1G thrust ships take off?

If this were a movie, the issue would be described as a plothole. As I always point out, I'm not an engineer, but my intuition tells me that if your drive factor is cancelled out by the local gravity, you can't reach escape velocity. The funny thing is, the understanding of gravity and it's manipula...
