Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Why ramen is so valuable in prison Instant ramen noodles have become like cash among inmates in the US. Cash is illegal in prisons. And that means everything from tuna to stamps to cigarettes have their own unique value in a trade and barter market. But ramen has quickly taken over as the most in d...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

The issue of weapons of mass destruction in Traveller I don't think has ever been satisfactorily resolved. I think with the Imperium, Solomani, Aslan and Zhodani there probably is restraint and reluctance, or at least lip service to that. They might feel no need to intervene if it happens outside th...

Re: Classic (breakaway) Cutter

It's a single entity when combined.

Damage might be restricted to a single sub hull, leaving the rest in tact.

Re: Standard vs. custom design: Where do you draw the line?

Mass production of military/paramilitary ships/hulls, especially those using cheaper commercial specifications.

Emptied out shells of surplus military vessels.

That would be pretty standard.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

I always thought the fuel bladder, possibly stretched over a metal skeletal framework or preshaped internal configuration, could be an interesting hull material alternative.

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

A Cryo Tray, sometimes referred to as a Cryogenic Tray, is a long mechanical cargo container designed by the Kushan for the purpose of transporting large numbers of colonists aboard the Kushan Mothership for the eventual reclamation of their long lost homeworld, Hiigara. Each was designed with a ca...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

Lots of sagas are based on lost causes.

Also, it would be a plot twist if a player character then helped the Aslan conquer the place.

Re: Classic (breakaway) Cutter

You're looking at hull integrity, especially if you want to collect on those extra hull points at designated volumes.

The only way I see that possibility, is if there are extra internal clamps taking up more space, and requiring a lengthier period to couple and decouple.

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

The issue with piracy is the endgame. Privateering works because you can retire in your home country, or in newly acquired colonies, assuming your government doesn't sell you out for some diplomatic gain. Pirate fleets aren't that difficult to achieve, if you have enough latitude, organizational cap...

Not accounting for added medical personnel and equipment, and probably an additional back up generator.

Re: Classic (breakaway) Cutter

If each breakaway section has at least ten tonnes, you can stick a firmpoint on it.

This could exceed the metaship's theoretical maximum, but each breakaway section is considered on it's own, not as part of a whole.

Re: Standard vs. custom design: Where do you draw the line?

That's why we had alphabet drives and preconfigured hulls.

The Dungeon Master can demonstrate flexibility on this issue, but be subsequently consistent.

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

We're sort of swept away by The Pirates of the Caribbean, which takes place at best towards the end of the golden age of piracy.

Piracy usually takes place where governments cannot or will not project their naval power.

Further East;

Engineering is the big ticket item for commercial shipping, everything else can be compromised and ameliorated.

Even life support.

And the expense of life support is the actual issue.
