Machinery may operate under the same principles, but some may be more efficient or specialized to function in a specific way.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

I'm the first to declare you shouldnt risk the jump drive.

However, this would be ameliorated by the capability to get to the objective fast, drop the troops and their gear, but not use the ship's weaponry to engage defensive systems.

Re: Dichotomy of maintenance

For the want of a nail ... Budgets and resource management tend to put natural limitations on military size and capabilities. Fisher practically junked half the Royal Navy, then proceeded to condemn to obsolescence the other half. Naval arms limitations treaty extended the life of existing warships;...

Re: Carrier transporting cars

The Kokirraks have a lot of spare space.

It depends on spare capacity that can be utilized, which the Imperium Navy probably has a lot of.

My take on the Confederation Navy might permit this on their auxiliaries; the Zhodani have an elite caste.

Starships: Longspaceships http://bookpalace.com/acatalog/JacksonLongShip.jpg Reviewing some Saxy Viking history, I recalled that the reason they were successful was their capability to beach their ships very close to their objectives. That would demonstrate a requirement for a starship that can eas...

Off hand, I think it's concerned with increasing range of operations, and by implication, fuel capacity.

Re: Real mechs

In which case, BattleTech.

It's a sitting duck in actual combat, since I don't believe it could outshoot the opposition; it would have to have heavy armour that can absorb a lot of punishment, and then fire back.

Re: Can a streamlined ship go underwater ?

My feeling is that we've accepted the thrust vectoring aspect of gravitational based drives.

But in the hovering aspect, it would be a case of diminishing returns, in comparison with actual anti-gravity lifters.

Spaceships: Life Support and Importing Short Term Support Oops, off by a factor of ten. Maintenance is five hundred per month, four days would sixty seven schmuckers per set. Spaceships: Life Support and Importing Short Term Support You only have to replace long term every three months; short term every four days. How much space do replacement oxygen scrubbers take up? Anyway, presumably a quarter tonne for twenty personnel over four days. Maintenance is five hundred pe...

Tee Five gives the option for composition of armour layers.

Closest we have would be a reflec coating; maybe stealth.

Arguably nickel iron.

The Admiral's suite.

That lifestyle is too foreign for me to comprehend, but I believe it's linked to an income where you just accumulate more than you can spend.

Or you're a Cabinet Secretary.
