Hmmm... is that making armored bulkheads redundant?Nerhesi wrote:While it makes sense Arcador, I think when it comes to abstraction we just dump criticals all together (If you notice, there are no criticals in Fleet Combat)

Non-Debatable Typos et al
So there's a chunk of new stuff that needs looking at and stuff still outstanding in the previous edition but I figured we can have one dedicated thread for NOT things to discuss as there's a lot of things to discuss and don't want to head off into tangents. I'll start with this one: Screen Defence ...

Re: Tech level, the tachyon cannon 'n' stuff
Understood and had assumed this was the intention. It does however create its own unique rule balance issues for consideration - like the TL10 J1 nuclear missile or torp ship that massacres everything else in space, heh.

Re: Smart missiles and line of sight
I was thinking the more likely situation was a fighter getting behind a ship of the line Matt. Say a situation where fighters are launched early, and then getting through distant and very long range still hanging around the battleships out of line of sight, much like soldiers advancing behind tanks ...

Given the ground assault direction of the above I also looked at an aerofin fighter but didn't like the 35 ton version and might prefer this:

Re: Fighters!Fighters!Fighters!
Had to work against my own prejudices, in that I hate leaving hull points and hardpoints behind. Still the central command location has a fair bit going for it as a carrier, and even more so, I like the black ops rider! So here's the Black Widow Intruder Carrier Mk II http://i67.tinypic.com/2liiy9u....

Suggested rules changes for sensors and stealth
Improving sensor range bands to determine details detected do not stack i.e. you cannot add a extension net system to a distributed array.
Along with their current benefits, stealth reduces the range band details can be distinguished by 1, superior stealth reduces the range band by 2.

There's a core component of High Guard that's not been presented yet - the fleet combat rules. I suspect there is another major beta release pending this finalization.

Re: Summary - your Top 10 items that need to be addressed
Okay, I'll try to keep it to stuff not mentioned yet above: 1. Revisit hull point gradation. Nehersi put up a new table. http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=149&t=118605&start=20 2. Clarify Ion weapon damage: how to apply it (a % of components or who choses where it goes?), and effec...

Re: Fighters!Fighters!Fighters!
OK, my prejudice is leaking through. I see carriers as mobile bases, not combat ships in themselves. I saw the scenario of the Black Widow sneaking into a system, hiding in a convenient asteroid belt or discreet moon, serving as a hidden base for the riders and intruders. You could let you carried ...

Re: 2000 J4 Drop Tank Cargo Hauler
I submitted in the last Freelance Traveller a hydrogen fueling system, replete with tugs, fuel pods and all. I put an 8hr time window on the mission time from the time the tug leaves the fuel station in orbit around the gas giant, to flying into the atmosphere, finding the hydrogen, collecting it, ...

Re: Fighters!Fighters!Fighters!
Since it basically is a carrier relying on stealth, I would suggest skipping the armour. That would give you more space for marines, more small craft, and more riders. Ummm... not entirely sure. I was thinking of making it streamlined so that at need it could still get down and dirty. And with the ...

Re: 2000 J4 Drop Tank Cargo Hauler
? who is doing that? The ship we are discussing, in the OP? Phavoc's angst seemed to be well aflame before that was put up, so I asked. But even looking at that OP drop tank design I'd really want to compare that cost effectiveness vs. a cheap fueler. The drop tank still has to be refuled by ...

Re: 2000 J4 Drop Tank Cargo Hauler
But, to my original point, the way that they are being envisioned now, with ships putting ALL their jump fuel in drop tanks... THAT is not present in any TCS or HG design I have ever seen or recall reading. And THAT remains my point. ? who is doing that? The only common case I could see for doing a...

Re: Fighters!Fighters!Fighters!
So I've had this concept for an intruder carrier for the Corsair/Privateer designs I put up earlier. Something I really like, where this ship (ultra-elite) and the light cruiser with the multi-mission capability are where I like to think of Traveller and High Guard meeting. The kind of ship where Tr...

Re: Jump Train
woops, yes TL14 of course. There'd be a point of low return though the further you got away from a TL14 source I'd imagine. Costs and ongoing supply would increase dramatically. It would have to be a particularly profitable run to justify it.

Re: Drop Tanks and Breakaway hulls: The Lesser Evil
As I understand it the jump signature incoming is pretty much highly likely to be always spotted unless you have a stealth jump which ships of the line won't have. Or perhaps not?

Re: Jump Train
What are the TLs of the related worlds and associated starports? Can really only see this working on a completely TL15 infrastructure which may not be available.
