Re: Trojan Reach: Hierate/Imperium Trade Route ... why not E

It can also create a lot of needless work for the GM. Since gaming isn't "necessary", playing itself creates needless work. As suggested above, why don't you find your perfect system elsewhere, or create your own? Come on! Not fixed after 30+ years of being told that it's broken? Perha...

Re: Comparing Imperial Nobility with medieval/fantasy Nobili

Very much like a hereditary family business functions. True to an extent. However, a rich business man doesn't directly control the functions of government. He can have influence, but he don't appoint judges, dog catchers and cops. Hie word isn't literally law. He may have a large security continge...

Re: Comparing Imperial Nobility with medieval/fantasy Nobili

The point I was trying to make is that there would be very little difference between a hereditary noble family and a hereditary business family, just a title. IMTU there is an actual function for hereditary nobility. They are the head of Imperial government at each level of Imperial organization. A...

Re: The Empress Wave - An Alternative Thought

Along a flat plane, burning its way along the length of that corridor towards the Consulate like a flame burning on a long fuse, the device began to record things starting to happen. Nobles started going mad, and Proles and Intendants started to, well, dissent. What if the Fienzhatshtiavl is, in fa...

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

Confederation Marines IMTU the Confederation is modeled very much like the fUSSR. The fUSSR, and the Russian Federation now, have no actual "marines" as a separate service. They have naval infantry, which can mean either naval personnel trained to fight in ground combat (like SEABEES in US service)...

Re: 2300AD: Grendelssaga Pt. 3 - Black as Pitch

One quibble with the consistency between this and the previous adventure. Salvage rights indicates that the French would likely be amiable to the characters attempting to salvage the Durandal... and happy for the crew remains to be repatriated... as long as the nuclear warheads were turned over. Bla...

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

No, certainly in IMTU, the scouts are a civilian agency. Yes, in wartime they might be mobilised for war, but then in wartime all sorts of other people might find the Imperium has need of their special skills as well.
IMTU the Scouts are more modeled on the US Coast Guard.

Re: Drinaxi Wyvern

Sindal apparently tended to use it almost as a matter of course, and it's not like they could have operated THAT many ships, so it'd be nice for every Star Guard wing to have one or two ships capable of it. Quibble on that point. The most recent adventure clearly indicates that the orbital bombardm...

Re: Free Epic Campaign - The Pirates of Drinax

the Sindalian Empire was formed as a coalition to beat up raiders, and you don't need giant capital ships for that). Not to get all up in your campaign, which is really great BTW.... the Sindalian Empire may have STARTED that way but (based on the background info given) 1000 years later when it end...

Re: 2300AD Submunition Doomsday

Captains using these weapons probably have to fill out an "environmental impact statement" or some such bureacratic nonsense.
...but how do you secure them so they don't end up dropped on colonies?

Re: 2300AD Submunition Doomsday

My problem with nuclear tipped missiles and bomb pumped lasers used in many SF settings is the proliferation of loosely controlled nuclear warheads floating around explored space. On SSBNs today, launching the missiles is a rare event with multiple safeguards. When nukes become the standard weapon, ...

Re: How long does it take to scoop fuel

If you have taken on water or any other high density source of H only some of your tanks will be full since a full load of gaseous H is going to be a much smaller volume of ammonia or other liquid of choice. If your tanks are full of water, you have only 2/3 the hydrogen you need for full tanks. Th...

Re: How long does it take to scoop fuel

It’s a tiny bit of paperwork but it means you are ready to jump out as soon as possible rather than waiting till you had 100Dtons of gas in the tanks to begin purification.
If you have tanks full of unrefined fuel and begun purification, where does the purified fuel go?

roughly 28 hours plus the time taken to purify it.
Any reason the ship can't be purifying the first load while the skimmer goes back for a second, etc?

Re: First Aid: dangerous?

Sure. Doctors kill patients by the bus load load in real life. Doctors, yes. Surgeons cutting somebody open or administering complex drug interactions. EMT-Bs may fail to save a patient, but they rarely kill them. In real life it is highly unlikely a patient will be killed outright by incorrectly a...

Re: Ship of Poo

That this ship seems to have run out of food is bizarre, they have 3000 people on board but didn't have enough stores to last an extra few days. Um, no refrigeration. I don't understand why they don't hook up power from one of the tugs? This all started with a fire in the engine room. They have par...

I always told my players, play someone as intelligent as you or less, because I just don't think it works the other way. You can't simulate what you cannot conceive of So how can one role play being a pilot, medic, engineer, scientist or anything they are not? I guess because they can "conceive" it...

Re: Handling Skill Advancement

Looking at CRB p59 'Learning New Skills', do most of you assume if you learn a new skill in this way that you get it at level-1 or level-0? Level 1. Off the top of my head, I believe the only time level 0 is obtained is from background skills and basic training. By rule I agree, but I allow a Level...
