Re: Proposed Optional Science Skill Set

I definitely think that this is an area where a rich set of defaults makes sense. To get anywhere in Physics, you have to have at least a rudimentary grasp of advanced mathematics. You don't get to be a specialist in pharmacology without at least having some cross over with physiology. Anyone with a...

Re: space combat question

While I can't quote you chapter and verse, the lack of anything saying that weapons are lumped together for to-hit or damage rolls forces me to say that the default method is one roll per weapon, even if you're firing a whole turret or bay worth of weapons, and separate damage rolls per weapon as we...

Say, any chance we'll see an adaptation of your robust miniatures rules for the Legend system as part of this package?

Re: Flip the Digits...

Yeah, rolling doubles is just the fates way of saying "not this time" when it comes to using your points that way. It definitely takes some of the tension out of the situation - if you roll a 91, then spending the point is a no brainer in your system. If you roll that same 91, and the option is to r...

Re: Spica career books - any reviews?

I'll admit, I'd hoped for in-depth versions of civilian, scientist and the like, in the same way that Merchant Prince and Scoundrel does, but it's nice to have some other flexible options. The bonus life events are a huge bonus, and I think I like the idea of an expanded 2d mustering out table.

Spica career books - any reviews?

Anyone here speak to the general utility of these books, balance with the core book and supplements, and if together they provide the equivalent of a supplemental treatment of the three core careers that have no supplement?

Re: Star Frontiers conversion

Can't say as I've ever seen it done for any version of Traveller, actually. Plenty out there for GURPS, Hero System, even BRP if I recall correctly.

Ought to be easy enough to do, though.

Re: General skill vs. Specialty skill

Very interesting, and hard to predict, if laser rifles can be made shorter than modern rifles, then perhaps we will start to see some interesting shapes in weapons. The other thing to think about is the weight, the stock is not just there to transmit recoil to the shoulder, the point of contact wit...

Re: Standard drives.

MGT HG's drive table is very specifically in the Capital Ship section. It does not replace the CRB Letter Drives, which all have efficiency slopes or curves (representing percentage of ship volume for given performance) over the 100 to 2000 dton range that end (at 2000 dtons) at or near the HG perc...

Re: General skill vs. Specialty skill

Not trying to stir the obviously simmering flame war here, but... WHEN we get around to designing laser weapons, wouldn't we DELIBERATELY make them operate similar to a conventional slug thrower? Not saying the internals are the same, but it would look basically like a rifle and you would hold, sho...

I've been pinged in other fora by someone who claimed to be working on collecting errata for Matt, so I have some hope that it'll happen sooner rather than later.

Re: Campaign settigns for a new player

If you really need gods and cults then get some of the MGP RQII material. I'm sure you can find it via ebay. Some of it is even available as PDF's through Drivethru RPG. It's for 2nd Age Glorantha but is has all the gods and cults and cultures you could possibly want. Is there a decent source for T...

Re: Campaign settigns for a new player

Definitely useful stuff, and good for inspiration pieces. Probably just me who wouldn't be happy without a cohesive and complete pantheon of gods, the cults surrounding them, the non-theistic organizations... but then I'm a bit anal about such things.

Re: Campaign settigns for a new player

I agree that for experienced players, Legend + Monsters of Legend provides pretty much everything you need to handle most fantasy settings, if they are prepared to put in some work. However I do think Monsters is pretty bare bones. There could be more material on non-human adventurers; as it stands...

Re: Which 3 Traveller versions do you like, or want to play?

I read through my GURPS 4e Traveller last week. It was basically all setting and no game really (makes sense since, technically, GURUPS is the rules). The Space and ship rules have changed in 4e. No vehicles yet for 4e. So I rate the game lower than the 3e version. I would agree with everything you...

Re: Campaign settigns for a new player

The problem is that the market for traditional D&D style fantasy is saturated and it is very difficult for a new game like Legend to compete on that turf. Also, that style doesn't play to the strengths of the game system. Legend can do Tolkien-inspired high fantasy quite well and as well as Swords ...

Re: Space Superiority Fighter

I say that, by RAW, Barbettes use 5 tons which includes F/C. Both Turrets and Bays explicitly are said to require a ton of F/C, in addition to the tonnage of the bay. So if it helps at all, Barbettes are 4 tons, plus a single ton of F/C, maybe?

Now flee, before we rehash magazine capacities...

I can't speak for anyone else, but all I've ever wanted is for someone to clear up these questions and release some official errata for it. There is an official errata for High Guard, doesn't cover everything though (no mention of barbette fire control either way for example): http://www.mongoosepu...
