Modern day tests run on blackpowder cannon/culverin revealed that there is such a thing as too long a barrel. Past a certain length the expanding volume behind the projectile will actually drop below atmospheric pressure, so outside air-pressure will start pushing against the projectile's velocity. ...

To the original question:
The described MEA outfit, while potentially offensive depending on the prayer style, would be less outlandish than the hardcore S&M dressed couple at Gencon 2 or 3 years ago. So far as I know they weren't ejected just for being dressed up and mildly in character.

The Hurr originally had a few flexible core ships in the "Militaries of the League: 2" supplement from Agents of Gaming. The Goose could easily farm core fleets for another 7 races (Hurr, Hyach, Cascor, Ipsha, Korr-Lyan, Torrata, Grome) from that book if they wanted.

The existing "combat level" system tries to take this into account, adding a second "handicap" system on top of that sort of defeats the purpose. ACTA is especially unsuitable because it focuses on tournaments and campaigns between disparate forces, any handicap system will quiclkly get out of contr...

Then leave off the tanker in the proposed set and play a 400 point game. So, why buy it if I'm not gonna use it? You say that it should be in the core set, but then tell people not to use it? I'm confused by your logic. Remember who is going to buy this. Would you rather have a boxed set that saves...

But the thing is, when people START playing the game, they want to buy a box that they can just play with. With the tanker on the list, they HAVE to make at least a PL2 list.... but with only about 650pts of models. Sure you CAN spend 350pts on tunneling assets, but anything over about 1/4pts on as...

Workers would have done just as well against the 6 Blister/Blasters purchased instead of the 2 Tankers. It really depends on what Mongoose is gunning for. The Blister/Blaster option will benefit established players but for beginners a tanker is going to help get them on the board faster and, I think...

If this is what they can offer, unconditional YES. My $0.02: If they could throw in a Tanker instead of Blister/Blaster and keep price at $75 (10 more), I'd think that might sell better. Get's the "Big Bug" market appeal going, and gives players a nice 670 points to combine with the 300 from the box...

Boxes should be targetted at providing a large, "core" force, and should preferably be purchaseable a couple times over. OS is on target with the species, I'd revise it to: 20 Warriors, 3 Hoppers, 1 Tanker Contains the "core" bugs, 700 army points, combined with Box set you are 1000 Bug points. Peop...

A momentary aside: Though Mongoose didn't specifically say it, the "War Without End" range will probably utilize the recycled molds/masters from AOG's "GROPOS" game, much as ACTA uses AOG's B5 models. AOG had produced 10mm core forces for EA, Minbari, Centauri and Narn, which would be a considerable...

Rikki, that's a good point. Practically speaking though some of the statements that have offended me most have been made under the guise of "guest," and I simply can't think of that many valuable contributions made under the "guest" moniker. If I can grab time in the next couple of days I'll do a se...

Doesn't change the fact that Brutes are genetic and social throwbacks

I'm sure I'll eventually field some but based on style, they ain't my thing. If you like fielding techno-barbarians and cavalry then by all means, take brutes, but not for me.

MI usually get receive better paintjobs but for me, a well-painted bug swarm takes the cake. You put 40 decently painted warriors on that tabletop and suddenly everybody in the venue is looking.

Bug book will add almost double the current # of bug species. 14 new flavors of human(oid) death and enslavement for the game's signature race.

I like taking a "lesser" race as a second fleet, especially one that has hostile fluff with your first "major power." Drazi probably help diversify your local gaming environment and they can still be fluff-fielded vs. Narn. Of course, if you are tired of painting, Drazi make a TERRIBLE choice ;) I m...

BTW, if what you say is true about how to beat the Minbari then the game has TOTALLY gone agaisnt the show. The Minbari won the war agasinst the EA when all the EA had were lots of small ships. Would be rather silly that the winning strategy on the game is to use lots of little ships. Do some resea...
