Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

Because common magic isn't sorcery, isn't meant to be sorcery and is therefore handled in a different way to sorcery? It might be that your game setting doesn't have sorcery at all, but does have spirit magic and divine magic and common magic? Because common magic might be the only magical type ava...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

I still face the problem op "spell power", though. Common Magic has a neat system where some spells are progressive or learned at a fixed magnitude, but Sorcery must be Manipulated. I wonder why the entire common/sorcery system was not just a set of grimoires, that could be learned as progressive if...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

I'm working on a homebrew setting now that doesn't have Common Magic -as a skill-. Common spells are renamed/reskinned and included in the various grimoires and cast with the Lore (Grimoire) skill instead. It made little sense for me to have a character be able to cast sorcery, and then have to put ...

Re: Combat actions: the Be all and end all of all combat cha

If so, where in the book is this described?

Re: Large spear questions

I'm going to use both the opponent bonus optional rule AND the +4 suggestion, too. Also, supercontra, that does depend on the weapon, I guess. It can see two-handed swords and spears being fine to defend with, but a whip not so much. I'm also guessing that parrying with a shaft or base of a blade wo...

Re: Large spear questions

Well, depends, doesn't it? It's rare for people to bear more than 3 on their head in my campaign for [reasons], and it should be enough to turn blades aside on occasion. Also, it's not common for arrows to hit the head in real life. Edit: I agree that it's uncreative, but my players seem to agree th...

Re: Large spear questions

My group has a thorn in our side with the combat maneuvers: Shouldn't 'choose location' be on -critical- successes, and not regular succeseses? While the rest of the combat system both feels fun and realistic, it doesn't make sense that every joe sixpack hits people in the head with their swords and...

Re: New GM Questions Cornucopia

I just whipped these two Divine spells up for a priest of the goddess of night and destiny, do they seem level or too weak? Blind Instant, Rank Init, Resist (Persistence) Blinds a target who fails their resistance roll. The blindness persist until the character makes a successful resistance roll, of...

Re: New GM Questions Cornucopia

I don't think I phrased that very well. Trying again: I've made a ton of magic schools with their own grimoires for my setting, and I think that some of them should be able to include common magic spells. However: Since I just want to add a couple of common magic spells per school, I'm thinking of r...

for a more classic take on that, both Vampire: Victorian Age and Vampire: The Dark Ages and associated sourcebooks are good reads.

Re: New GM Questions Cornucopia

we haven't been playing lately on account of illness, so the river of stupid questions is more like a trickle lately :) So, I've put the time to good use writing on my homebrew setting, and I've gotten to the sorcery part! When I have schools that use spells that resemble both those from the common ...

Re: Arcania of Legend: Necromancy and Demonology

I happen to be writing a necromancy sourcebook for my homebrew fantasy Legend setting. I haven't the faintest when it's done, but I'd be happy to share ideas, spells and whatnot with people working on the same!

Re: Let's talk undead!

This is what I am gravitating towards. Necromancers must have power items that let them sustain more undeads, and can opt for making low-grade ones of their own by sacrificing the living or beseeching black gods, until they're bad enough to create/quest for better power phylacteries.

Re: Let's talk undead!

Neither do I, though it would a good to ensure that one cannot make thousands of powerful undeads, and then start a war.

Re: Let's talk undead!

..so you all agree that making undeads require a permanent (or at least until the undead is dispelled/killed) magic point expenditure?

Re: Let's talk undead!

So, I'm finding myself with a lot of spare time, and am writing a necromancy source book for my setting! I'm writing a ton of fun spells for reanimating the dead, and find myself wondering.. Should making undead cause permanent magic point loss? When you look at the Enchantment section in Arms of Le...

I see your point. I think I need to bring in a more pitched battle with more opponents, see if they learn the error of their ways.

not LONG before others, they have 2 or 3 CAs, so does their human opposition.
