Re: Keeping Lore Mundane (But Still Useful)
The same would apply to every craft guild. The Lore would concern itself with the magical properties, how the metal could be used, who else has the knowledge, which deities the metal belonged to and so on. Now that is something I could get enthusiastic about. I really like the way your ideas have e...

Re: Keeping Lore Mundane (But Still Useful)
I'm persuaded over the horses, but less so on the Metallurgy. At least in so far as I still think that spending on the theory of a skill as well as it's practice fails to reward players who are willing to sacrifice an obvious advantage in order to create an interesting character. Besides, I think I'...

Re: Keeping Lore Mundane (But Still Useful)
Why, of course! Should a steppe nomad be expected to take Lore (Horses) as an advanced skill, though, or could most of this equestrian expertise be subsumed by their common skill: Lore (Regional)? I'd allow this, freeing up the opportunity to take a different advanced skill. Similarly I'd allow some...

Re: Keeping Lore Mundane (But Still Useful)
It is equally useful in the game a Lore or Craft skill than any other advanced skill. Forcing the player to adquire half dozen of redundant skills only serves to cancel the reduced skill list of Legend compared with RQ2 or RQ3. Personally, I'm with you partly for this reason. But also, by making ro...

Re: Priestly Sorcerers
I have to state up front that I'm not sold on this project, however one way to go might be to use Pact as the active spell-casting skill, take spells from the Divine Magic portfolio, and apply a modified version of Manipulation to them. Manipulation could be restricted to Range, Magnitude and possib...

Re: Priestly Sorcerers
You could use the sorcery rules, changing the specific Grimoire skill for a Pact skill and I would use the Pact skill ... as the effective Grimoire skill. I was thinking that co opting Pact as the active Sorcery skill would mean dropping Divine Magic or else risk making it an overpowered skill, but...

Re: Priestly Sorcerers
There appears to be an appetite to sideline Divine magic in favour of Sorcery. O.K. Each to his own. On topic: you could leave divine and sorcery magic systems intact, but make higher powers the source of Magic Points. These entities would require blood sacrifice to grant Magic Points ( à la Arcana ...

Re: Sorcery As Transgression
Clearly YGWV applies across the board. Some people will feel the need to make firm decisions about objective Truth in their campaigns, others will prefer to leave the question open. I see the position you take with regard to sorcery will be a powerful driver for the campaign you outline, Alex. I lik...

Re: Sorcery As Transgression
I think were at cross purposes here. I'm only talking about the potential for dramatic effect generated by leaving room for some ambiguity. I have nothing to bring to a debate on religion vs. science.

Re: Sorcery As Transgression
I dunno. when sorcery is portrayed as ersatz science, it kinda loses it's magic if you see what I mean. In a settings where fervent belief can result in actual miracles the relationship between sorcery and theism can remain ambiguous but equally tense. It may seem a bit hackneyed, but the distinctio...

Re: New Professions,skills and Backgrounds
I think that your assumption here is at best uninformed. A college graduate would probably have the superior resume and outpace the "cave man" (or indeed anyone making their way in a world lacking the privileges and advantages of modernity) in a race for a career in, lets say, pharmaceuticals. But p...

"Yes sir, of course you may stroll around our city in your panoply of very shiny and no doubt very valuable armour. I see you are a man of quality and not no troublemaker. Take care though, some of these streets can be a bit rough, and what with only 0.5% of the city making up the guard... well we c...

Re: Spells of Legend
The following are some example demons/ entities that can be used in conjunction with the Summon/ Evoke/ Adjure spells I posted earlier. They were designed to be employed by Gloranthan Malkioni Sorcerers, hence the allusions to Law, Infinity, Magic and Mastery. I Included an air demon as I thought it...

Re: Witchers of Legend- A fan-project
Aparently there is a RPG out there. It was published in Polish, though. According to Wikipedia: "In 2001 a tabletop role-playing game called Wiedźmin: Gra Wyobraźni (The Witcher: A Game of Imagination), based on Sapkowski's books, was published by MAG." Sadly I haven't read the books in Polish or an...

Re: Empires: State Building?
Yes, reverse engineering an authentic real world setting with the expectation of nailing it down is futile. The illustration is a serving suggestion and may not resemble the actual product : in the example the population of England fell anywhere in between 2.5 to 5 million. Furthermore there were pr...
