Re: Starport / Planetary TL mismatch

Like the user Merxiless, I like difference between TL of planet and starport, as it often forces me to create more creative explanations and make planets more memorable. Let me just throw out some ideas: Say the starport is type B and planet's TL is around 6-7. This could be either in Imperium (assu...

Re: New Edition Traveller Ship Mortgage

I'm not sure how an interest of 4% is accurate. Nor is the idea of 20% down. The bankers that are running these mortgages are thieves. Sure. May we interest you with our alternative offer of only 5% down; 1% interest rate and payable over fifty years?! This offer comes with extra safety conditions ...

Re: Disassembling the ship

Thank you both for answers.

Yes, I meant that ship is on ground, characters have some cutting tools (or ship repair drones) and they want to carry away a weapon from downed ship.

Disassembling the ship

Hi, So I am running a certain pirate campaign and there was a question that I wanted to listed to wisdom of other referees. Player character want to dismantle certain ship parts, for example, weapons from turrets. Assuming the ship is down and not movable to any shipyard - what are your ideas - is i...

Re: Pirates of Drinax: Spoilers: Advice on Treasure of Sinda

Hi, I want to hijack this thread which already contains spoilers to ask for more spoilerly advice for GMing this adventure: There should be four particle beam firing solutions found. However, it appears to me that there are 5 - 4 in message globes and one in Noricum. Is it correct? Or is the one on ...

Radios in space

Hi everyone, I have kind of technical question regarding technology: do small radios work fine as receivers between starships. Case in point: Some PCs are on their own ship (which obviously can be strong radio signal transmitter), some PCs are on other ship and would like to hide/not announce their ...

Re: The other kind of piracy

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I gather and agree (and will use) that there are significant reasonable obstacles of taking software out of the ship and using it elsewhere. But that's installed software. From what I gather, if the PCs actual get their hands on "Installer" software (for example...

The other kind of piracy

Search function didn't help me with this question that should have appeared in front of other Referees... What should I do with software piracy?! Software is expensive. I have got feelings that ships in ports are not searched through and through as well as latency would discourage checking ship soft...

Re: Rules clarifications for a new guy

Another suggestion (similar to one already posted) - let everyone roll up two characters and choose one they like. The other one will be a NPC :). So they have invested also in crating NPC; and they have chosen a character to play (so they are not too negative about blaming luck... choice has now al...

Re: Jump destination

Note that asteroids are the big unknown; there will be a survey programme of this sort of thing done - I assume by the scouts - on a fairly regular basis. However, a newly colonised world, or a world which doesn't rate scout survey (a non-imperial world off the trade routes) may well have an incomp...

Jump destination

Hi, everyone, I can't find information about how you know where you arrive after Jumping. On page 141 of rulebook it says: When the ship exits Jump space after an accurate Jump, it tends to arrive close to the target world, but outside or on the verge of the hundred-diameter limit. and here are my q...

Re: Simple question about Jumps and fuel

If I may threadjack my own thread, I have another question (probably simple for you guys, and not worth its own thread): No explanation for some travel codes - the great map site www.travellermap.com contains planets with travel codes (for example Pa, Pi, Ph), which are not explained neither in rule...

Re: Simple question about Jumps and fuel

Thanks for all the answers. I'm not gonna cancel their mortgage payments. I like the idea, of ship representing both the opportunity to make money for PCs and also liability that needs to be taken care of... I probably just suggest that they may switch to quartety (or rarely to semiannual) payments ...

Re: Simple question about Jumps and fuel

The way I used to handle it, a ship requires maintenance, this maintenance requires a shipyard, and where there is a shipyard there also is a bank willing to accept and hand on the mortgage payment. True, let's say for Starport with rating C or up, but i also have problem with that obligator...

Re: Simple question about Jumps and fuel

Thank you so much for this detailed answer. Cost I will make up, but understanding whether Jump-1 ships can travel across those empty hexes in starmap was crucial for me. If we are on a helpful note, than I have another question: The monthly ship payment - how to settle that. I understand how it's d...
