Re: State of Mongoose 2019: Legend

I thought that Legend was abandoned but apparently it is not completely dead yet (although no new releases so far).

Re: New Books, Please?

We have had this discussion about new books going for a year (if we count also the previous thread). I haven't bought Legend books since January 2015, when I ordered Elementalism directly from Mongoose, because it wasn't available in my local RPG store at that time. So, despite all the promises of t...

Re: How to handle high level of parry?

Enemies with more combat actions and equal or higher weapon skills than your hero have advantage over him. But even lesser enemies can defeat the most skillful hero if there is horde of them. Then there are magical attacks etc. which can make the battlefield very dangerous place even for the most sk...

Re: New Books, Please?

Why call for new books without saying what you want? I figure there is no point in calling for new books unless you do want something. :| I didn't mention what I wanted, because I already said it in the thread which we had in July about the same topic and didn't feel like repeating myself, because ...

Re: New Books, Please?

I was kind of expecting something for the Christmas shopping season, because Matt said, back in July, that they had books planned for Legend. But it doesn't seem like anything is coming out.

Re: Professions

Biggest downside of this approach is that if your party has, for example, two or more Orlanthi warriors then these characters probably have very similar skills. The rules already suggest a potential solution to this - allow players to choose from several meaningful options WITHIN each profession so...

Re: Professions

A quick question - I've been thinking about increasing the number of skill points allocated via Professions and reducing the number of Free Skill Points assigned to adventurers. My aim is to make Professions more important to starting characters by treating them more like starter templates whilst s...

Good luck Alex. Any hints as to what it's about?
Let's just say that nothing about the book is exactly what it appears.
Is it going to be about mesm... hypn... I mean serene trance?

Re: Terminology

Personally I don't see problem with those words, because also fantasy literature uses them. Here's an example of the usage of the word mesmerism from Robert E. Howard: "For there are worlds beyond worlds, as Kull knows, and whether the wizard bewitched him by words or by mesmerism, vistas did open t...

Re: noob question

Rules are rather clear. If characters has sword & shield combat style and the character loses his/her sword, then the character can still continue using his/her shield with the full sword & shield skill. Character who has lost his/her sword can, besides attacking and defending with his/her shield, a...

Re: Help creating a monster

In many ways I'd threat it as an elemental in that size dictates some characteristics. That said, it is a lump of protoplasm, it is not going to have high DEX, INT, CHA (APP), POW or anything other than sheer animal resistance to anything that affects its body. It's a tough, slow lump of animal pro...

Re: Sorry guys...

I can understand if someone gets tired of the campaign setting. In our group we play different RPGs with different GMs to keep the things fresh. D100 is one of our favorite systems and we have played both Glorantha and other settings. Although I don't understand why new Legend releases were a proble...

Re: Anything happening for Legend

I've been wondering the same thing.

What I'm hoping the most are generic books, which I can easily adapt to Elric of Melniboné campaign setting or to my own one-off sword and sorcery settings.

Re: Tips on a Lankhmar Campaign

Generally I agree with soltakss advice, but because you're using a licensed campaign setting there are some additional things which you need to consider. Even if you don't want your adventures to be rehash of the novels, there's still that one very important question (which applies to any licensed m...

Re: Homebrew Settings

I'm currently running Elric campaign with the Legend rules. It's a direct continuation of my previous campaign, but this Season 2 has new villains and storylines. There's naturally some recurring themes and continuity, but many of the Season 1 storylines were resolved in an epic finale, which took p...

Re: Mythical Britain

I haven't actually read this, but based on preview the setting looks like actual dark ages setting, instead of traditional high/late medieval Arthurian setting. So, it's more like Bernard Cornwell's The Warlord Chronicles than Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur.

I use similar energy fields or bubbles occasionally, usually in situations where players encounter some kind of hulking ancient interdimensional machine, which is surrounded by strange glowing energies. Or when they encounter some other powerful artifact of unknown magic and/or technology. Usually t...

Re: Swashbuckling Adventurers - Are they Viable?

Pirates of Legend has a heroic ability, Swashbuckler, unfortunately it isn't detailed in the book. My thoughts for that ability were that it makes the next Dexterity based skill check to perform some form of 'swashbuckling' move Easy. As an example, an Acrobatics check to swing from a chandelier ac...

Re: Swashbuckling Adventurers - Are they Viable?

I fail to see what this skill does besides giving more bonus. Athletics/Acrobatics already covers most of that stuff. Wouldn't it be easier just to give them bonus to their existing skills? Hmmm...my aim was to provide a way of offsetting the situational penalties associated with the kind of cinema...

Re: Swashbuckling Adventurers - Are they Viable?

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to provide characters who play swashbuckling rogues with bonuses that reflect their specialty rather than hitting characters with penalties if they don't conform to that particular fictional archetype. The first approach places greater freedom of cho...
