Re: Questions: Need help with the Science of Science Fiction
I'm not sure you'd be able to cross by balloon though. Possibly, with a high tech high altitude enclosed balloon, but certainly not with some primitive hot air open wicker basket without fuel to keep the balloon aloft. Even aircraft would have to be pretty advanced. I'm thinking the separation requ...

Re: Questions: Need help with the Science of Science Fiction
Here's a Huge world for you: A rosette joined by a ringworld. Go for it. Not even sure that would be possible! How about the Dyson sphere idea? Probably have a much larger livable surface than a ringworld and rosette combined? Sure it would work! Never said that the ringworld has to touch the plane...

Re: Vehicle Handbook - Now Shipping!
AH the age old arguement... Well, age old from what I can tell. IIRC, we have addressed this issue before with the old Civilian and Military Vehicles books. (also, please note that I don't have the new Vehicle Handbook... Something about being too poor...) The issue is this: People are taking a look...

Look between the lines, behind the lines, above and below the lines. There is likely to be a great Traveller centric story hear but it probably isn’t offensive lasers in four years time. "Our informants for the Imperial Naval Design Liaison at the Unicorn Belt Shipyards R&D Department has inf...

Re: Navy: We’re 4 Years Away From Laser Guns on Ships
Nah, you just build a small fast boat with enough power for 2 or 3 lasers with a couple of the new rail guns for point defense (Oh, and maybe use them as sandcasters as well!), and send them out in droves.

Re: Active scanners
Here's how I do it: 1) You have your transponder. All civilian ships have those active. It broadcasts your ship name and such. 2) If that's active, then why not have your sensors be active. It can get hard to find little pieces of debris in space on passives, and fixing damage is expensive. So, merc...

Re: 2300AD is Back!
A number of the review on DTRPG criticize the book for not including more detail, but I don't see how this could be done without doubling the size of the book. I think the main goal of this book is to introduce the setting to an audience who are unfamiliar with it, rather than to add new detail to ...

Then pick up the PDF version, that's a lot more readable. And I find it to be useful, as it's full of background info on the OTU.

It's more so about giving it time to get the engines up and acquire the target.

The slug weapons should have a modular design system. Re: New to Traveller
I suggest not running SoTA for a new group, especially one that has players new to the game. Just simply roll up a couple of planets, give them a ship, then run around like a headless chicken. All joking aside, just roll up a few patrons per planet (or just use some example ones), do some trading, m...

Re: Implications of Warp Drive
Or, we could just skip the entire debate like this. 1) Detecting an incoming warp drive takes a massive sensor installation. Let's say... oh... would 10km diameter work? For say... A 45 degree arc? Let's go with that. Let's give our sensor installation a active range of... hmm... 1AU, that's about 8...
