Pretty sure it will be set at a certain 'price point' and then they will see how much they can cram into that financial constraint. As it is a starter set I'm sure it won't be to heavy a hit, that saying most basic game sets roll in about the 50 squid mark these days

Some very interesting ideas here. I'd love to see a quality K'Kree supplement too. Delving in to the evolution and motives for more important than if they have shotguns or not. Is there a realistic hope of a book in the next 3 years?
Make the checks easier for those who grew up or have a low G background. What a G bound player may find awkward (8+) is routine (6+) or less for trained. Thus better than having the skill.
Ha ha I bought that series for inspiration for a pulp champaign. And yes it would be fun as Traveller. Film 'outland' with sean connery is good. Blakes 7 is good for dystopia. In fact most British scifi seems good for dystopia
Could try the two weapon rule as previously suggested, with str modifier added to each shot. So weak characters with -1 modifier will be adding -3 and stronger -1. A competent swordsman can also skewer you from 3 metres, even with a relatively heavy blade. So 2 meters sounds good to me. At 2m you raise weapon/pull trigger, I slash or lunge.
