Re: So, what's with the supplements?
Well for me the books I'd like to see are Psion, and aliens (Hiver and K'Kree) .

Re: What skills have you dropped?
I got rid of none. In fact we have added. I like Lifesupport as a skill. One which in the real world I have some experience of. We also allow many of the engineering skills to be taken as 'profession'. This means a character can have Power or Life support etc but it doesn't cascade. Makes for an int...

Re: Is SOC per society?
Well lets see what did King George's Soc F get him? An Empire as far as I can see. One that lasted longer than many, with various rebellions here and there. It got him the territory that rebelled in the first place. And after the loss of one territory he still had Soc F and held great sway (when he ...

Re: Is SOC per society?
Also why would either the INT F or the SOC F work FOR YOU. Why a genius is working for you would/could be of some concern. I'm sticking with the SOC F. Also depends of so many other factors, such as what the job is, and personality. Nothing to say the INT F person isn't a total pain in the arse know...

Re: The Traveller Companion - It Exists!
Itharus. You have some good/stong points there regarding the companion should have been out at least 6 months ago, if not longer. And as for the alien issue, I agree the need for an all in book with Aslan, Vargr, K'Kree, Hivers and a few of the humany variants would be a good pull for new and old al...

Re: The Traveller Companion - It Exists!
At last! Been waiting for this since the core rulebook arrived. Not bothered on the points based system for characters, as most groups are small I see no need for this myself, just speak to the GM and most players can sort something out. Plus I'm sure most groups have house rules for generating pcs ...

Re: Is SOC per society?
True, some of them are almost human, or at least are able to create the illusion of being one. I've worked with a few here and there. A good few of them in the UK are in relative terms, pretty poor. Much of the family wealth in property they can't sell, or land. Land in the rural areas that isn't al...

Re: Is SOC per society?
Some of that is cultural popularity compared to Social Standing in the Traveller vision of SOC. Plenty of celebs and such like are popular but in Vilani society doesn't mean they have any real status . As you say it is a tricky one and to honest I still feel that every Traveller group is so diffener...

Re: Is SOC per society?
To be honest most RPGs don't survive close scrutiny. Traveller was written in the 70s by an American, who brought a lot of US culture and social thoughts to the game. So it's not surprising that some of it doesn't survive the bright light of the 21st C. It's still my fav' RPG so I just bend what I f...

Re: Is SOC per society?
Same here. We use the rolled SOC as a charisma/socialbility stat. The Social Standing we roll separate.
