Re: Alternate rules for Passenger Travel

enough medical slow drug to put the passengers in a coma-like state for the duration of the emergency. The crew members may also use the same drugs for emergency hibernation if they expect a long recovery time. Just a point on Slow Drug. As written, Slow Drug is the best way to move biofreight arou...

Re: New to Traveller

I'm thinking that the players will be bounty hunters who will, for a fee, find what you want found or do what you need done. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about playing this game. No should I go for the LBB of Hardback core rulebook. I think the LBB would give me a better feel of Classic Tra...

Re: Question on speculative trade goods.

When buying speculative trade goods, if the players buy weapons, what is stopping them using the weapons or armour in the crates? In Merchant Prince for example it says if the players remove the locks from Prototype armour, the supplier is unlikely to sell to them again. Was wondering why this is t...

Re: common knowledge

So, can I infer from the lack of replies that both 'The Ancients' and Vargr being uplifted are common knowledge with in the Imperium? I'd argue no and no. I mean, most people just dont need to know that, and the 'Solomani Hypothesis' has got baggage on it ... its known, but not everyone will know i...

Checking JTAS asteroid mining rules, apparently not (: I don't think they'll change the rule in Mongoose as it would mean errata for the life support cost line in every one of their starship entries (there are probably several hundred of these across multiple books). I was just looking for ways to ...

Re: Life Support

"Spartan" food, water, etc. should be about 0.01 ton per month, I think, but I don't know about the other material. 0.01 tons a month is 10 kilos a month is 300 grams a day - IMO you're off by a factor of 3. A liter of water, a kilo of food and a kilo of LOx and other supplies per day - assume dece...

Re: Got something I'd like your opinion on...

Jump drives were limited in how far they could travel, at present Jump 2 is the best any regular trade ship could hope for Well, the Ziru Sirkaa did fine with jump-2 - if you replace most of the cargo hold with fuel tankage, a jump-2 far trader can do deep-space jumps, crosssing a jump-6 void in th...

Re: Got something I'd like your opinion on...

Hopeless, Stuff to think about includes ... Stargates and the outsystem OK, so you've got a stargate system. Were jump drives used for travel to and from the Outsystem ? If they were, then you'd have faster recovery, as the short-legged Outsystem puddle-jumpers get refitted with extra fuel tanks to ...

Re: Capital Ship Design/Combat

Yes, the spinal mount is freaking lethal, but salvo fire from 40 massive particle guns is really not doing very much... At the scale of those ships, each of those "massive particle guns" is about 0.5% of ship volume. Relatively speaking, they are a single laser turret on a 200 dton ship. The big in...

So its a tax. Be explicit about that, and make it clear that it doesnt apply outside the Imperial Frontier, or to smugglers or belters or other marginal types.

Re: Life Support

Im going to rant about this. This is one of the stupid, brain dead, broken rules that exist because Marc Miller is crap at economics. Its up there with 'Cr1000 per jump' freight costs. This rule either (a) destroys belter colonies as viable entities, or (b) theres some magic feature about food, wate...

Re: Autonomous Combat Robots

I think your interpretation of the intellect programme is correct, but it seems limiting. Limiting indeed. But I think I found a loophole. Make the weapon intelligent with it's own computer doing the gun combat part, and a second computer for the movement and the other skills. If I was your GM, I w...

Re: Traders of Drinax : Making a living in hostile space

Hans, Briefly, much of the meta plot is what you said would happen, happening. The jumped-up State that the safe trade route went thru got stroppy, tried to tax the trade too hard and got bombed rather than annexed. This caused the chain of safespots to be disrupted etc etc. Your opinion will probab...

Re: Capital Ship Design/Combat

Egil, When Im building a warship, the questions go like this order. 1. What size a ship am I building ? 2. What jump do I need for the role ? 3. How big a Spinal Weapon can I jam in ? 4. Given 1-3, what number of g's is vaguely reasonable ? 5. How thick a Meson and Damper Screens can I shoehorn in ?...

Re: Traders of Drinax : Making a living in hostile space

Hans, In general, yeah. Theres a treaty. The clans arent good at cooperating to bring big, coordinated fleets in to play, and so surprisingly small defense forces can beat many small Aslan ships. The statelet a lot of the trade through got greedy and then got bombed from orbit by one of the Aslan cl...

Re: Traders of Drinax : Making a living in hostile space

Hans, Meh, I'm happy to accept a certain amount of retconning ... and that said - what you've described is the normal state of affairs that held in Trojans Reach. However, post the 5FW, the Imperium has been forced by the complex diplomacy of the Heirate to "not engage in excessive extraplanetary in...

Re: Traders of Drinax : Making a living in hostile space

Im not particularly concerned about a merchant with a high value cargo spending time if it keeps a ship safe - I'd be expecting the profit margin to be in range of the hundreds of thousands of credits per dton to make a run like this worthwhile (and its not that hard to come up with cargos worth tho...

Traders of Drinax : Making a living in hostile space

First and foremost, once you leave Imperial space and until you are in the Heirate, you are no longer a merchant - you are a smuggler. Your base assumption has to be the local authorities will, if they catch you, take at minimum your cargo, and at maximum your ship and your life. When I say 'local a...

Re: Capital Ship Design/Combat

Locarno24, Are the ships of the line you're building featuring Honking Big Spinal Mounts of about 10% of ship volume ? If they arent, this could be where your lack of Capital Ship Criticals is coming from. Oh, and the Azhanti High Lightning class is, and has been under every design of Traveller, a s...
