Re: Question about 2300 French Arm Supplement

Sounds great, I am glad to see that Pentapod ships will be included.

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

Thanks, based on a drawing in the original ships of the french arm... Now this I'm proud of.. http://biomassart.wordpress.com/2011/09/25/thorez-on-the-runway/ http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm163/middenface/thorezlanded_reduced.png Ahh, my favorite. :) And excellent work too. Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

That's certainly what i'd like to see. Seeing as all i have to do is re-render them, it's quite likely. Great. That was the one thing I wished the original Colonial Atlas had included. And if you have a separate sourcebook for each of the arms you should be able to include a lot of detail about eac...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

In my email to Matt, yes... :) There will be adventures, and sourcebooks for each of the Arms and for the Core. Sourcebooks will include worlds, starships, unique vehicles and technologies, adventure seeds, bestiaries, and other fun stuff. Campaign guides, perhaps, for the major campaign types (Gro...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

Saying a ship has to go all the way in to the primary would change the setting considerably. Ships use outer planets to discharge to save a great deal of time. Also it is much more stealthy. Kafers and human blockade runners would lurk in the outer system to bypass occupied systems without combat. B...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

Not just the French. The Germans are having problems with some former Bavarian colonies that don't want to be part of the reunified Germany. Plenty of scope for military and espionage campaigns then. 2300 never had a problem with those. Merchant games are harder though. Ships, even small ones, are ...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

the possibility of colonial succession on the French Arm, and French efforts to stop that (look at Elysia). The breakup of the French Colonial Empire  Not just the French. The Germans are having problems with some former Bavarian colonies that don't want to be part of the reunified Germany.

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

Even in the original 2300 you could do other stuff. I ran a Beyern campaign that lasted almost two years. Everyone had a blast exploring the galaxy and I tied it in with a bunch of political stuff and piracy as they left known space. At the Pleiades I used the AGRA mystery to drop them back on Earth...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report

In the original 2300 you could discharge into any gravity well. Most people used whatever planet they were going to. Or they used handy gas giants for intermediate stops. That way they did not have to travel deep into systems they were not going to. I think Colin's approach of "What brown dwarfs" wo...

Colin, may we assume that the vehicle rules for 2300 will be fully compatible with the new traveller vehicle rules that were written by you and Mr Hahn?

Cool, I didn't know about the high spin rate. One suggestion about ships. Traveller products usually have ship floorplans as a feature, kind of a tradition. I think the Thorez class courier would make a fine sample ship for this purpose. It is small enough to be easily done, and the ship is very fle...

H.E.L.L. Systems

Colin, one interface system that was never really mentioned in 2300 was the High Energy Laser Launch system. It has most of the advantages of a catapult without the high G forces that make the catapult unsuitable for passengers. Even though it was never mentioned for 2300 it fits with the type of te...

Have to say I am looking forward to this. However I come down on the side of wanting to be able to design ships as well as simply run them with provided classes. I like the SFU and have since I bought the Pocket Games version of Star Fleet Battles as a teenager. I am curious to see what a Traveller ...

BTW I like the snippet about Pentapod Shivas up near the top of this thread. They put me in mind of the drones used by the Rorschach entity in Peter Watts' Blindsight . The distinction Watts draws is between intelligence and sentience (ie self-awareness or conscious thought). The human First Contac...

Cool. I haven't read the 2300 stuff in a while and the details of the tanks have faded a bit.

I know the background materials always said the M9 was less advanced that the Aerochar. Call me old fashioned but I want a turret on my tank. Something that lets me shoot in a direction other than the one I am traveling in.
Beautiful work middenface. I would be happy to see your art in the book.

Thanks Colin. I knew the capital ships would be tiny, but I didn't realize they would be that tiny. I think it makes a great change from the multi kiloton monsters of the Imperium.

Thank you for the answers Colin. As for barnest2's question. Combat in 2300 takes place at ranges of multiple light seconds. Energy weapons have an effective range of a few hundred thousand kilometers. In the old 2300 ship combat system 1 hex was 2 LS which gave energy weapons a range of 1 hex. Remo...

2300 link

Since the original Twilight 2000 was the prequel to 2300 AD and Mongoose is now releasing 2300 AD again...
Seems a match made in heaven to me.
They could expand Colin's new Twilight out into a full setting and have a ball.
