Re: The deeper we look, the more we realize we don't know...
One paper doth not a falsification make, Of course not. I never said it did. I ACTUALLY stated different. So, what IS your point OTHER than that you didn't actually read what I wrote? ... All measurements of that aspect of galactic movement have been verified. The expected movement isn't there. The...

Re: The deeper we look, the more we realize we don't know...
The consensus I'm talking about is based on evidence and many different groups coming to the same conclusion based on that evidence All measurements of that aspect of galactic movement have been verified. The expected movement isn't there. Theory falsified. Once that happens. It is OVER. I don't th...

Re: The deeper we look, the more we realize we don't know...
Has ZERO to do with consensus. Science isn't about consensus. (see scientific method for why not) What HAS been observed is that galactic rotation and behavior does not behave in accordance with the dark matter theory that is extant. Therefore, that theory has been falsified. The consensus I'm talk...

Re: The deeper we look, the more we realize we don't know...
This is pretty much the same data put out by JPL/Nasa a several years ago. I was seeing if there had been an update since then. The data isn't new. And IS the current science in this area... It's just one of the ideas about Dark Energy/Matter/Gravity/whatever. There isn't a real consensus about thi...

Re: The deeper we look, the more we realize we don't know...
There are good science news sources out there. Daily Galaxy isn't one of them. This was a typical example of the sort of overly sensationalist, terribly written article that they produce that isn't even news (what they're talking about was presented at a conference in 2013, based on a paper from 200...

Re: Forum problems?
Hopefully not, though has happened before usually not down as long though. No idea on the version. Well, it's happened twice in two weeks now I think and it's been down the whole weekend both times - presumably nobody's around to fix it in the weekend? Is anyone investigating why it's happening and...

Re: Forum problems?
Is this something we can expect to keep happening? (what version of Phpbb is this forum running anyway? It's on 3.0.12 now, but I get the feeling the Mongoose Boards are still on 2.something)

Forum problems?
Were the forums down for anyone else this weekend? Same thing happened a couple of weekends ago, all I got was an error saying the SQL database had crashed.

Re: Jump Bubbles
But the implications for defense means a lot of concentrated forces near the primary world which means less can be stationed out to defend the gas giant. A fleet could send a lone cruiser in every few days to do an attack run on the primary world - to draw back forces from outer parts of the system...

On the topic of organic spaceships, I would point out that nobody has done a good biotech sourcebook for Traveller yet. There is a "Special Supplement" for the vehicles book that covers Biotech. It's not spaceships, but it's something... http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/special-supplement-1-biotec...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming
The teaser is actually a lot better than I was expecting. It's not HBO, but it's far better than the Star Trek fan shows I've seen. You can't have seen any of the good Star Trek fan shows then. Spinward Traveller looks terribly amateur to me, the Star Trek shows I would call at least 'semi-professi...

Re: FTL Communication?
It's called 'The other science fiction universe that has nothing to do with Traveller'. They constantly make them into games but seem to not last long. Makes me wonder. The length of a time that a game is around for has nothing to do with its quality. A suggestion for you though - perhaps you could...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming
If they could keep it all on one topic thread I'd be happy to avoid that thread. I swear EVERY topic is something horribly negative about Traveller in general and whatever is specific to the thread. I happen to greatly enjoy Traveller and it get me feeling low with the constant downers. Or maybe yo...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming
And yet there's nothing but bad mouthing of Mongoose Traveller and every other iteration to boot. Remind me again if every aspect of this game system stinks, why are you all here? Really, go buy... oh wait, they aren't published anymore. How about... oh, didn't last long either. Must not have had a...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming
There's a bit of an odd attitude here: "It is Traveller and therefore we should support it." Well no, actually. If its crap we shouldn't, and we should say so. T5's almost-instantaneously successful funding is a prime example of how blindly funding something can still produce a really bad product. ...

Re: "High Guard" rewritten
Back to the topic at hand... just how often would the situation (a system's gas giants being located within the star's jump shadow) come up? I mean, look at our system: of the system's planets, only two are located within Sol's jump shadow - Terra falls just outside of that boundary. None of Sol's ...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming
Wow. If not done for 100 million dollars by a big studio using Indian labor and Canadian actors it's not worth doing at all. I'm afraid I don't know what kickstarter means. Honestly? This looks absolutely terrible. It's going to look to everyone outside the Traveller fanbase like a cheap knockoff o...

Re: "High Guard" rewritten
Um, wrong. The ORIGINAL premise was to jump TO the GG, quickly secure it for refueling at the BEGINNING of the system assault with some ships in an oversee position. Again, wrong. The quote I posted from the HG book is the definition of the term "High Guard". Anything else you're going on about is ...

Re: "High Guard" rewritten
So... no. Actually, you put in only a portion of the assumptions. The other 50% is the position of the G's vis-a-vis the rest of the system and being able to jump directly TO a GG... So, yes. Which has nothing to do with it. I'm quoting everything the book says about it - anything else is yo...
