Re: Constructing Deck Plans Oddity...

The entire free trader section should be 32 squares and I count 34. Power takes up 8 squares in its own room while the maneuver drives are sitting on 4 squares each. The jump sits on 6 squares and there's 12 empty squares. That's 2 squares over. I think they were keeping things square and gave the e...

Re: Laboratory Ship Fuel Tanks

"I think I have a project at lunch tomorrow." Went to the ship architect facility. They said dump the hamster cage or the double hull. The ring configuration works fine. You have the best of gravitic manipulation and centrifugal gravity. Ships can alter gravity plates specific to location. When in c...

Re: Laboratory Ship Fuel Tanks

Like mercenary groups, you get contracts from government and private organizations for specific studies. You are on a site that requires a special short term, hands on approach a large very expensive research facility isn't suited for. This, of course, leads to the more unusual encounters and danger...

Re: Laboratory Ship Fuel Tanks

Engineering/pinnace docking section in the center location. The ring is a hamster cage. As a very harmless research vessel, give a light hull unless you need to mount laser drills. Solar panels for extended stays in a location. Multi-environment space for specimens along with life scanners. Library ...

Re: Adapting Traveller for Dark Matter

How to convert? You now have FTL subspace communication. Works for Star Trek and Star Wars. Can anyone use it or is it the plaything of governments and corporations? You now have Transfer Booths. Just need to work out the science and economics of a cache of clone bodies at the destination. I don't k...

Re: What would The Emperor do?

If a Duke was developing that much popularity, it would not happen overnight considering the speed of communication. There would be time for the Emperor's massive political machine to counter it if analysis deemed it a threat to the Imperial power. As we have seen in the OTU timeline though, civil w...

Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

That can mean tissue regrowth for the limb. Why would the limb be missing for only 2 points ability reduction? Cr.10,000 sounds awfully cheap to regrow an entire limb too.

Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

I think the word 'regrow' is being misunderstood. The passage didn't say his limb was missing. He needs to replace a lot of tissue damage since he only took a mere 2 points of Strength. Read the Medical Treatment section on page 78 for extensive damage and even then there's no reference to limb repl...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

"If the Ringworld was sectioned off on its inner side, there could be any number of different environments as well." One of the Man-Kzin Wars books had a zoo world featuring huge sectioned off environments based on many sampled worlds one of which was the Kzinti homeworld. A human whose ship had cra...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

So they have the ability to extinguish stars without causing an immediate gravitational collapse creating a singularity?! Also they can manipulate the orbital physics of the other star(s) so the loss of the delicate gravitational balance doesn't send the stars winging off into the void? That's scien...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

How many surrounding star systems would you have to strip out to create a ringworld let alone a dyson sphere? Why would any race with the ability to decimate entire systems create a single structure to contain a million planet habitat instead of just terraforming a million worlds? This sounds like a...

With a -3DM Unskilled penalty, they can try but... This is why Toonces the Cat keeps flipping the car off the cliff.

Re: How do you generate child characters?

Remember the Toonces Effect, you can still use a skill you have no levels in just not very well. There's a penalty but it's not like you can't perform a task. The kid could still operate a turret. You might not want someone performing surgery when they don't know what a laser scalpel is.

Re: How Do You (Logically) Prevent Players from Skipping Payments?

Looking at careers, I don't see subsidized vessels as a mustering benefit and for good reason. Mustering ships are small and *relatively* inexpensive. Mercenary cruisers, patrol corvettes and corporate level ships are very expensive to the point a party of 4-6 couldn't possibly bring in enough reven...

Re: How do you generate child characters?

Remember again the Traveller system does not use huge numbers for task modifiers compared to most other games. The mechanics are favorable to success even when you have only one or two points in a characteristic or skill. You have a good grasp of a subject with 1 point, you're well trained with 2 po...

Re: How do you generate child characters?

People under 18 generate Characteristics and Background skills and that's it. At 18 someone can attend college or military academy for 4 years gaining a few more skills then begin adventuring. Yes, they have very little that early in life.

Re: How Do You (Logically) Prevent Players from Skipping Payments?

"I know that ships like the Corsair have a "type" but they're so idiotic as a concept that I'm not getting into it." The corsair is quite legit. It started as the ship reward for the pirate career but had no origin. As time and editions went by, we realize there's a broader sense to the class as a c...

Re: When is a starport not

"But, as we've seen from most supplements (canon and otherwise) and the core rule books of the various editions, fleshing out a system, or even a single planet, to provide more details is almost never done." I have most editions and each have their own starport rules, some actually overlap. I borrow...
