Re: Hull design choices and some random suggestions.

Lots of scifi media feature ships with incidental and superfluous structural extensions (japanime, I'm pointing at your vast antenna forests) which could be considered free and mostly appearance within displacement tolerances. Not every vessel must be Star Trek spartan and utilitarian.

Re: Ships at the Dawn of Jump

Here's another limiter for space exploration especially in its infancy, supplies. You can have all the fuel you want by sacrificing other tonnage and fly further and further out from a supply point. Problem should be the needs of the crew over the time and distance. Regular Traveller adventure rely ...

Re: The Great Rift Box Set - Now in Print!

My local game store posted in their moat recent newsletter the Great Rift Boxed Set arrived. Went there today (Saturday) and it was waiting for me. It is mine! I have the PDF but I sooo prefer hardcopy. Spent the day at the store reading and messing with the enhanced system generation.

Re: Ships at the Dawn of Jump

I gave it the increased engine size for a retro bulky feel. That's why I mention the vacuum tube reference. When you look back at our own technological history, things compact as tech improves. One civilization might have hit on components that control size but are very inefficient at controlling th...

Re: Ships at the Dawn of Jump

Going over HG2e designing. A bit of mental synergy gave me the idea that the dawn of jump starts not a TL 9 but when civilizations make the first connections of theories. The tech level a particular piece of technology comes to fruition represents when all the systems and components reach a stable, ...

Re: Lab Ship

Traveller Rule Zero. If you and the players had their cybernetic hearts set on a merchant game with a merchant ship then give it to them. Just take away the merchant benefit closest to '6'. For fun, use the lab ship benefit as a second merchant ship benefit with another 25% knocked off and let the g...

Re: Deck Plans

They went iso because so many demanded cool iso plans. 2D plans are easier and probably cheaper to create so it wasn't done just to annoy some people.

Beware what you wish for.

Re: Stripping down ships

It's been mentioned over the lifespan of Traveller just no real specifics how it's done. Space is vast and so are the means to fake a transponder. It's up to gamers to make use of the tech for their own ends. Quite often plot and story driven devices. Hacking and making transponders should be probab...

Re: Stripping down ships

Transponders are supposed to be very difficult to alter or hack for normal people. Governments and people with the right resources should have little problem BUT getting caught with a hacked, altered or fake transponder, say during a customs boarding, is where your troubles begin.

Re: Timeships

Had nothing better to think about at work. When you time jump, does the maneuver drive and astrogation system maintain a ship's three dimensional position while everything in the universe moves in relation to time travelled? Would a 1g engine be able to keep up with planetary and solar velocities es...

Re: Why is there a Jump Fuel requirement?

Ships that take years to travel between even the closest stars will be very different beasts. Oh, by the way, is that acceleration/deceleration or just acceleration for 6 years? Adding decel adds another 6 years. That's a long time to have a crew and 6 passengers in the spartan confines of a Trader....

Not sure what the purpose would be. The wording to me seems to make failing more possible. As the system is, is seems fair enough without adding complexity. What would you say this rule would do for the game?

Re: Sensors Vs Superior Stealth

Actually that's already built in.
"with an additional DM-1 for every Tech Level the ship is higher than the sensors trying to locate it."

As the Tech Level of a target ship's sensors increases, the easier to detect a stealthed ship.
