Re: In-atmosphere speed of manoeuvre drives

Remember one thing, just because your ship can move very fast doesn't mean you must or should. Just because your car might be able to move at 190kph doesn't mean it's a good idea in the majority of situations. How fast does the ground come up on you at 1200-4200kph? Can most pilots safely react and ...

Re: In-atmosphere speed of manoeuvre drives

In the real world, climbing out of a gravity well and dealing with atmospheric conditions especially of a gas giant should make maneuvering and targeting a nightmare. Personal suggestion should be assigning banes to ships caught like that until they can clear the hazard.

Re: Electronic banking & currency

The Virus era was actually a horribly mutated bitcoin algorithm that went out of control. Spread across known space as people greedily hoped to see their monies' value explode then collapsed bringing down an empire. After that, they made up a ludicrous story about some 'living computer chip'.

Re: alternative dTon generation for Major/Minor/Incidental freight?

If you really, really need a lot of 7, 8 or 9 then, as the ref, add a few more or less tons to get the number. You don't have to roll where the players can see.

It's called Rule Zero.

Re: In-atmosphere speed of manoeuvre drives

" If I remember correctly, speed tends to be determined by thrust and weight."

Only for grav and thrust based craft. Ships with maneuver use the Gs to determine speed.

For #3 and #4, ships can slow down when necessary to avoid burning up or causing damage from intense speed bow waves.

Re: Inaccurate Jumps in Traveller

I've participated in games in which our group experienced inaccurate jumps (IT WASN'T MY FAULT!) and we discovered we would have to spend a few more days catching up to the gas giant or mainworld we had planned to exit next to. Actually a good time for the ref to roll encounter chances.

Re: Can gauss weapons use AP rounds?

Gauss weapons fire tough slugs at very high velocities making the ammo inherently armor piercing and a natural trait of the weapon that other firearms don't have. An armor piercing gauss round would be redundant.

Re: In-atmosphere speed of manoeuvre drives

MegaTraveller Referee's Manual craft design section has a table to convert maneuver thrust to maximum speed. A M1 drive for a streamlined craft gives 1200kph while M6 is 4200kph. That's top speed. Ships more often travel at cruising speed (75%) or Nape of the Earth (25%). A ship's avionics is the bi...

Re: does Traveller 2E not include aliens?

There has been references to aslan in Imperial space for generations that have acclimated to human behavior and are considered aberrant to Hierate aslan. One or two aslan books have career paths such as piracy that have males and females performing the other's roles.

Re: does Traveller 2E not include aliens?

Getting ready to go to work so can't reference the aslan alien book. I seem to be under the impression the character generation in it didn't make high SOC easy for a beginning aslan reflecting their society but it was possible with the right family history. Explains why so many males go out and earn...

Now you have me thinking a race of large intelligent reptilians done Avatar style having a low tech civilization. Like aslan, humans see a resemblance to old legendary Earth creatures and refer to them as dragons.

Time to play with the new system creation rules from the Deep Space Exploration Handbook. All those new possibilities. Take a sector map. Put a Void ring 6 parsecs wide around the inner four subsectors. Determine systems around the ring as per average density system rules. I left a few subsectors at...

Re: Sub-Capital Escort Carrier

Carriers like tenders should not have to employ tremendous speed. Their job is to transport fighting craft near a battle front but still well away, launch their vessels then stay in the rear lines either in the protected shadow of a planet and/or base or near a designated jump point. Riders and figh...

After a certain tonnage, ship and space stations become mega plot devices. They are as, or more, numerous as adventure scale vehicles but are very seldom interacted with. When was the last time players needed to board a mega-freighter? Gigantic stations get mapped more like a terrestrial city and th...

A solar panel doesn't extend anything if your ship can't carry enough reaction fuel to go anywhere.

"Could I get stats on primitive sensors?" Extrapolation. Basic has no cost, weight or power. The progression of accuracy decreases rapidly at lower TLs. -6DM seems reasonable. Sucks to be a 1970s spaceship. Space combat would be a test of resolve or stubbornness. It seems space combat would be more ...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Partial streamlining still allows takeoff and landing but at a penalty at a cheaper hull cost. The aerofins reduce the penalty. I did mean solar sails. Reaction fuel mass gets your ship nowhere especially with smaller ships. Once you leave orbit, you deploy the sail and make the journey to the desti...
