Re: Orbital Belts

After a certain tonnage, ship and space stations become mega plot devices. They are as, or more, numerous as adventure scale vehicles but are very seldom interacted with. When was the last time players needed to board a mega-freighter? Gigantic stations get mapped more like a terrestrial city and th...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

A solar panel doesn't extend anything if your ship can't carry enough reaction fuel to go anywhere.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

"Could I get stats on primitive sensors?" Extrapolation. Basic has no cost, weight or power. The progression of accuracy decreases rapidly at lower TLs. -6DM seems reasonable. Sucks to be a 1970s spaceship. Space combat would be a test of resolve or stubbornness. It seems space combat would be more ...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Partial streamlining still allows takeoff and landing but at a penalty at a cheaper hull cost. The aerofins reduce the penalty. I did mean solar sails. Reaction fuel mass gets your ship nowhere especially with smaller ships. Once you leave orbit, you deploy the sail and make the journey to the desti...

Re: Gauss Weapons - Zero-G?

Checking out TNE's Fire, Fusion and Steel which has a extensive system for creating gauss and mass driver weapons. There's information on the helical barrel that drives the munition. Interesting note, 'One advantage of the tremendous torque generated by the rapid discharge of the [homopolar generato...

Re: Monetizing the Arts

Player states what they wish to accomplish based on the type of art skill they have or wish to attempt if they have no skill. Ref assigns a task check with what would be an appropriate time frame. Player can take longer or less time. Rolls at the end of the time period to see how it goes. Effect sho...

Re: Collector Based Armstrong Ship

You could but you need a second unit and need to charge that one for a week. As it's been said, those canopies are HUGE so it would be ludicrous thinking you could deploy multiple canopies. The Annic Nova has a J2 and a J3 but its single accumulator, though sized to charge a maximum jump 3, isn't ab...

MgT1e had an advanced system generator in the Scout supplement.

MegaTraveller had an extensive generator through Digest Group Publications' World Builder's Handbook.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Coming in a bit late here. I think Maneuver/0 is for controlling to far more sophisticated Maneuver drives so not necessary if you use reaction drives. The capabilities of the Library program should be beyond what is available for essentially the 1970s. Don't worry about needed either. I'm at work a...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

I'm noticing you can't carry enough reaction mass to go anywhere beyond maybe to the nearest moon. I'm sure people are very happy with the initial discovery of maneuver technology just to explore their own star system. I bit like what we're experiencing on Earth today.

How easy is it to harvest quarks compared to antimatter or hydrogen? Hydrogen has THE big advantage of being in great abundance for very little energy to collect.

Re: Gauss Weapons - Zero-G?

I'm looking over weapons in MgT and I think I see what's going on. No other basic slug thrower has intrinsic armor piercing. That sounds like that dense dart, along with high velocity, has the energy to punch very hard. As we have been discussing, that amount of power should translate to equivalent ...

Re: Gauss Weapons - Zero-G?

I was trying to imagine what happens in the barrel of a gauss gun (nothing better to do at work tonight). There's a series of circular coils that line the barrel. The first one tugs the projectile into motion. I picture the coil holds the dart in frictionless suspension. It moves and the coil turns ...

Re: Gauss Weapons - Zero-G?

I was under the impression gauss guns fired tiny tungsten darts at high or even hyper velocities to impart the impact energy. Wouldn't that help reduce recoil to levels a person without some recoil reduction system could handle?
