Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.

Encountering a customs boat or other space security vessel will either be a random roll or a referee choice both under referee control. Such encounters are meant to be interesting and possibly useful to the flow of the adventure. The only reason it turns deadly is because the players decide the char...

Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.

I thought the rule was the Imperium controls space between a system's bodies. I'm also sure local systems have the right to protect between the planets too since the Imperium doesn't always keep military assets patrolling them all. When you review what forces exist in the Imperium, colonial assets a...

Re: Hop Drive

Prototype is prototype. It has a long way before being commercially available. This is especially true since the drive is 500% more expensive, double tonnage, higher fuel use and only 80% efficient. The military potential of such an exponentially powerful drive system should make this the Imperium's...

Re: Hop Drive

There's a TL 17 Imperial world that developed it or a gift from Grandpa? I hope they had time to analyze the tactical and strategic potential. Maybe there are even more efficient jumpbreaker missiles and that sensor that helps track a ship's jump.

Re: Research Station Gamma Robots

More than likely Grandfather's ships would know what you are up to and disintegrate you as vermin or put you in stasis and turned over for laboratory vivisection. I looked at Research Station Gamma and the robot descriptions are great blueprints for quick construction to a reasonable MgT facsimile. ...

Re: What remains powered on a ship after a powerplant failure?

I always figure ships are divided into section usually by purpose and function each of these sections are encased in bulkheads such as cargo, flight, engineering, bridge or residential. These are the heavy, air tight walls meant to protect and/or isolate. Within these sections are rooms and corridor...

Re: So many ATVs in high tech places, when they're just bad air/rafts?

Safari ship and corsair are not part of mustering benefits. All others except the scout have mortgages with them. The string attached to the scout is you and the ship can be called back to active duty.

Re: So many ATVs in high tech places, when they're just bad air/rafts?

Except for the scout, you're not 'handed' starships. They come with monthly price tags. If you swap out ATVs for grav equivalents, the overall price of your ship increases and subsequently the monthly payments. That's also true for ships with no turrets or weapons and the players NEED them at the be...

Re: What's Traveller5 like?

Going to the officially sanctioned weekly games for many years, I hear all the ranting and moaning by the players. Lame rules, not enough rules, too many rules, not my awesome homebrew rules. I've been involved with RPGs for decades. Heard and seen it all. Seriously, no game is ever good enough. Lov...

Re: So many ATVs in high tech places, when they're just bad air/rafts?

The more you buy up front the larger your monthly payments will be. A million here, three million there might start to strain a budget.

Re: External cargo mounts?

The point of external cargo is it is not within the protection of the hull.Objects such as externally carried craft are subject to being hit if targeted. Small craft would defend using their own armor and absorb damage to their hulls. Unprotected pods and drop tanks have no armor and should use the ...

Re: Converting a Freighter for combat use

Just while we're here. Does this hypothetical fighter equipped must be expecting trouble beyond turret weapon solutions heavy freighter in fact have armor? From my earlier assessment it seems reasonable it would have at least a minimum similar to the Far Trader and Type A Free Trader who stick their...

Re: Converting a Freighter for combat use

Best I can come up with is extra armor is allowed but it adds to the overall displacement and you can't remove internal displacement to balance. You can rearrange internal components such as taking adjacent cargo hold to expand engineering to add more powerful engines to balance greater displacement...

Re: External cargo mounts?

These mounts seem a little vague. Unlike a docking clamp which had tonnage itself, the ECM is only a cost for a certain cargo tonnage it will accommodate and has explosive ejection bolts to release said cargo. The 'framework' takes up no volume. The cargo enclosure must be thin enough to not be sign...
