Re: Campaigns you've run?
I kind of look at a campaign like a TV action/drama/cop type show. Generally, they have a main plot that appears over and over until it is resolved in the season finale, but some one- off adventures as filler. I'm running a campaign that's kind of like Jaks... the players are all related, their fath...

Re: question about star fleet reference cards
Is there a preview of what these things are going to look like somewhere?

Back when the D7 could get 9 AD of phasers on the forward centerline I would have dissagreed... now that it's only, what, 5? I might agree... but I gotta try out the D5 some more first.deadshane wrote:For my money I think that the D6 is probably the best cruiser.

Re: Reload special order
To be fair, on the turn they are not firing the Photons, many fed ships are Phaser monsters with little else in the way of weaponry. So taking the Phaser only on Fed ships is a limited penalty - obviously a problem on the turn you fire photons if you overload but then I remember energy allocation i...

Re: How much fun is ACTA:SF?
Personally I'd prefer the D7 to the D5 on a 1 to 1 basis... It has enough agility compared to feds that the narrower disruptor arc doesn't bother me much, and I'd rather have 9 attack dice of phasers on the forward center line over the 4 attack dice of P1 on the D5. Against Kzintis I might prefer D5...

Re: How much fun is ACTA:SF?
I like it... for me it has a bit more of a "cinematic" feeling than SFB ever did... the way critical hits cascade out of control if you fail to repair them causes the destruction of each ship to sort of tell of story where you can imagine the chaos on the ship as damage control parties try and fix t...

Re: Where now? A Brainstorming Thread.
A plea for deployment limits.. .... Can we please have a simple rule along the lines of "No more than one Command variant may be used, unless each is accompanied by two non-command versions of the same hull". TBH I have had much the same thought. I already thought it was a little bit weird that you...

Re: Fed DD
Just my opinion but if you stat up a plain vanilla DD it should have the Under Powered disadvantage. If you use a DDM (2 Photon and extra hull), DDG, DE, DDL, or a SC you should not need the Under Powered. Remember that the DDL can use the Carronade rules. I dunno if using less than all the weapons...

Re: Fed DD
I always found that they worked really well if you just ignored one or two photons and flew it like a normal destroyer with 6 phaser-1.

Re: What are people using to actually play the game?
Since I have been playing SFB and Full Thrust for years, I just can't manage to play a space combat game if I don't have a little picture of my ship to mark boxes off of. So I just used paint to whip up some SSDs with the outline of the ships which contain all of the weapons (with arcs marked), trai...

Actually fighters can carry particle beams. Remember, it only takes 1 "mount" for a "triple turret" or "triple fixed mount" which is all you need to mount a single particle beam. You're referring to the Core Rules I presume :) Because I was recently working that out with a High Guard design and fou...

Well... first off, under most any circumstances I think it's likely that fighters would be fired on by fighters as well, and pulse lasers vs 10+ armor aren't terribly useful. Why would you use pulse lasers against an armoured foe? That's like an M1A MBT using its .30 cal MG against another MBT inst...

Well... first off, under most any circumstances I think it's likely that fighters would be fired on by fighters as well, and pulse lasers vs 10+ armor aren't terribly useful. As for warships, that depends entirely on the flavor and circumstances of the campaign. In the first (Megatraveller) campaign...

Well, I'm more interested in playability than in strict adherence to realism... which would be kind of silly in a game with reactionless drives and jump engines anyway. My main problem is that almost any fighter is almost immune to the vast majority of weapons that might generally be shooting at it....

Or.... Assume a 100 ton ship is the "baseline" for the armor thickness. However many tons of armor it takes to get (for example) 4 armor at 100 tons is the minimum amount of matter that it takes to get that armor value. So a boat that wants 4 armor pays for it at the 100 ton displacement. That's no...

Also in the core book, beam lasers do 2d6, not 1d6, so it actually makes sense for the corsair to mount those. Personally, I haven't adopted the HG rule change for turret lasers because they just don't work for me. Actually, that is a totally good point i hadn't considered... thanks :) i still thin...

I'm kind of curious how some of the "cross-over" elements of the SFU would work as far as licensing. Specifically I'm thinking about the Kzinti. As far as I know they're ripped straight out of Niven's Ringworld universe... I always assumed that they must have shown up in the animated series, which s...

Hmm, that's troubling. Getting Traveller rules for SFU ships is more than half the reason I'd buy the game; it's a "no sale" for me without it. Out of curiousity, what is meant by "Traveller rules for SFU ships"? What do you want? A combat system? Why? You have your choice of SFB, FC, Armada, and, ...

* e.g. an armour 11 fighter must be at least TL11 - so why the hell is it using just a beam laser? Well, the official books seem to be full of examples of terribly designed ships. Like the Vargr fighter in the sample for "Fighting Ships" with a beam laser and 12 points of armor, or the Corsair from...
