Re: Newbie with a lot of questions

Having a "Melee & Ranged style" is a bit more open than the rules intend. Well, it wouldn't be just "Melee and Ranged." It would be Melee and Ranged combined with a list of weapons the PC is proficient in. For example, you'd have Melee and Ranged skills plus "proficient with shields, swords, axes a...

Re: Newbie with a lot of questions

I get what you guys are saying about the styles being trained separately, but it doesn't sit well with me that a PC with "shield & mace" at 90% would suddenly find himself unable to use his shield very effectively if he picked up a club or a sword, instead. Yeah, it's different, but it's not *that* ...

Re: Newbie with a lot of questions

Terton should have a Combat Style of 'City Militia'. This includes spear (any type, including as a ranged weapon), shield and crossbow...So Terton wouldn't be penalised for using a spear on its own, or with a shield. He's been trained to deal with it. What if Terton later learns how to use a sword....

Re: More Balanced Player Races

Actually, ogres don't make terrible ballerinas. They have the same Dex and Cha as humans and dance is a common skill. Nah, they're still terrible ballerinas. Try doing a pas de deux with a lift when your ballerina is an ogre! I guess you could say an ogre ballerina is okay if the male dance partner...

They suck at basketball, too. What really gets me, though, is that ogres make terrible ballerinas.

Re: Adding a weapon to an existing combat style

Here's an example. Say the PC is a Dane and he has "Shield Wall Fighter" style that includes Shield with Spear or Axe at 95%. He wants to add Seax to his style. That strikes me as a very appropriate weapon to incorporate into the style, but its use would be very different from the other weapons in t...

Adding a weapon to an existing combat style

How would you handle it if a PC wants to learn a new weapon and add it to an existing combat style?

Re: Improvised Book Cover For (Of?) Legend

...BTW, one my friend ordered in the Core book with the colour cover, it's not that bad IMO. I wonder how the two covers are selling relative to each other. Can anyone at Mongoose confirm? I'm curious if the readers of this forum (who overpoweringly disliked the color version) represent the market ...

Re: Precise Attacks in Legend?

I don't think it's unreasonable to allow for called shots, I just don't know how to implement them without 'breaking' the combat system. So is there any other method of allowing a 'called' shot? Allow the player to say "I'm swinging for his head." Then have him roll. If he rolls well and gets a suc...

Re: Legend character sheets not so hot...

I don't like the official MRQ/Legend sheets, either (although I can't say I had any issues with paper size and printing). I use these:

MRQ2 Character Sheet (1.4 MB)
Two-page MRQ2 duplex character sheet (2.1 MB)
One-page female MRQ2 sheet (1.4 MB)
Two-page female MRQ2 sheet (2.1 MB)

Re: NPC Allies

Thanks, Simon. Some good advice, there.

I was thinking the PCs would be in command, but that will probably depend on their PC backgrounds and connections. Either way, though, I think it should work.

NPC Allies

What's the best approach for handling NPCs that are working directly with the PCs? (In D&D, I'd call such NPCs henchmen or hirelings.) The specific example I'm thinking of is a Viking adventure where the PC's command a longship of raiders. That means there are up to 40 or so allied NPCs. Should I tr...

Re: Legend and Cthulhu Dark Ages

I'm thinking of trying one of the Viking adventures from the Chaosium monograph for a session next week. MRQ2 Vikings should help also. I guess it should be pretty easy to convert skills / combat and use the existing CoC magic system and sanity system as is. Any thoughts? No, other than to say that...

Shield Stats

What do you guys think would be reasonable stats for some ancient shields like large oblong Celtic shields, phalangite-style pelte, wicker pelte, and Greek thureos? The large Celtic shield seems similar to the Hoplite Shield or the Kite Shield in protective value and weight. My understanding is that...

I like the simple and elegant cover much better than the goofball character art one. (I don't object to character art, or to boobies, I just think that first Legend cover fails. A cover using something like that hoplite piece posted earlier in the thread would be cool, too. THAT one is full of aweso...
