Re: Combat Style - 1H Axe + 1H Sword IRL [youtube video]

Iron Maiden. Nice!

I haven't done much fighting, but I'd prefer longer reach or a shield any day.

Re: Sample Grimoire

That really depends on what the dwarven sorcerer wants to do with his spells/what you want him to do. If he wants to be play a buffer, good spells include the enhance line, the maximize damage spell, shapechange, and the damage resist spell. If he wants to be a damage dealer Wall (from wraith recon)...

Re: ADVENTURES IN INNER SEA'S, USING LEGEND?

One thing you should be aware of, is the power level of magic. Magic is less powerful in legend than in 3.5 or pathfinder though. A good way of getting around this is also to have more fights in a day, if a wizard casts enhance int + dex + 4 targets + range, he uses 3 magic points (and 4 combat act...

Re: opposed skill in combat situation

Yeah, since evade is always opposed, whoever rolls higher, while still not beating his own skill will win. So Fonso is right.

Yeah anything from 1/20 to 1/5 of your skill value seems ideal if there are also social repercussions from knowing magic.

Re: Intriguing, Swashbuckling and Seducing: The Courtly Camp

It's a good idea, but I'd reckon it takes a hell of a preparation. If you need to stat up 20+ (to make a proper court) NPCs, each with their own agenda, allies and opposition. You'd be in a lot of work, and a lot of it is not even sure to be used unless you try to railroad the players into having ev...

Re: Advice with Monster Creation

Well, building off D&D, and what this monster can, here's what I'd do if I were an Aboleth in a city environment. Keep to the sewers, especially the lower ones where you can be reasonably safe, use dominated alligators (or whatever marine animal you can find in the sewers). To drag some humans down ...

Re: Advice with Monster Creation

Wow, this monster can seriously wreck human parties that are not protected against magic. It can pretty easily hide in ponds with it's illusions and 75% stealth. And when it wants to, it can ambush by casting a Target + Range modified Dominate (Human), and have that party hack each others to pieces....

Re: Lore Characteristics

Lore (Alchemy) is INTx2 and is used for turning gold into lead or vice versa. Lore (Theology) is INTX2 and is used for knowledge about gods, religions, religious ceremonies things like that. Lore (Odin) is INT+POW and is used to ask for divine spells. Lore (Odin) would also be knowledge about all t...

Re: Sanity

Does sanity even have a place in heroic fantasy? This is an interesting question, and I'd dare to answer it: Yes, in a limited form it does. Insanity, like any other disease can lead to some interesting roleplaying options. However, insanity is much harder to roleplay and make rules about than bein...

Re: "And then the whole floor opened beneath them" ...?

I love Oglaf too. Although this (SFW as well) is my absolute favorite.

I liked the most recent comment as well, and am uncertain as of how to make it into a proper trap for some adventurers one day.

Re: Campaign advice for technological cults in Legend

You could do something similar to Weird Science in Savage Worlds. Magic & Superscience use the same mechanics in powers, but change its trapplings, the way they seem and function in the game world. Por example, the bolt power, similar to Disruption in Legend: A wizard makes magic. He move his hands...

Re: combat skill over 100%

The difference between a guy with 70% and 120% skill is the same as between a guy with 50% and 100%, so doesn't it make sense to scale them down so it matters to have a skill over 150%. If this rule wasn't there, there would hardly be any reason to increase your skills beyond 100%. Which is when the...

Re: Quick question: delaying

The Delay action p127 states "This changes his Strike Rank to the number when he finally does act." so effectively we have a situation where two combatants have the same strike rank. Under Calculating Initiative p125 it says "If two participants tie scores, then they act simultaneously. If both are...

Re: "Total" Hit Points an option?

It takes a lot out of it. When monster is hitt in certain location, other players will want to hit the same location. With total hit points, the monster will live twice that much. Nah, because now those players will be making useful combat maneuvers instead of choose location. So all in all the com...

Re: Combat maneuvers too common?

The longbow is not the piercing weapon, the arrow is and the example (in brackets) clearly shows this. I believe this is where we disagree, I'd say something that fires a missile is the weapon, and the missile is just that. The missile. I wouldn't consider a 7.62-bullet a weapon, but an AK47 I woul...

Re: Combat maneuvers too common?

Not to mention the fact that a heavier bow will push such an arrow further into the tissue of your target, giving much worse penalties. I know that 40% might seem like a lot, And it probably is, but I'd find 10% to be ridiculously low to have a longbow arrow protruding from somewhere in your body an...

Re: Over powered character in group

It has almost already been said by others, but as I tried to point out with my question: The reason somebody who's good at combat seems really overpowered, might be because combat happens a lot. The solution might not be to hurt the character particularly out of combat. If combat happens less often,...

Re: Over powered character in group

Curiously enough, in more than 30 years of roleplaying, I have never heard of a character going overpowered in skills such as Mechanisms, Culture, Sing, Play Instrument, Survival, Boating or Seduction. You'd have thought that someone might have tried minmaxing their Athletics, Sing, Dance, Play (St...
