Re: Share-a-Game: Mongoose Traveller at BoardGameGeek
You mentioned characters dying in Traveller during chargen. The massively printed Second Edition of Book 1 included an optional rule on page 10 allowing a character to leave the service with a healed injury instead of dying. That optional rule was published over 30 years ago. I've only got MgT book...

Share-a-Game: Mongoose Traveller at BoardGameGeek
BoardGameGeek has a Share-a-Game initiative, which encourages people to create topics and threads discussing games that might be less well-known to the community. I volunteered to share what (little) I know about MgT, and I was recently asked to do so. If you're interested, please check out the thre...
Re: Wingsuit
Pretty cool. I still hope someone will develop a suit that actually allows for an uncushioned landing.

Re: Traveller World Creation
Asteroid Belts with commercially viable governments are going to be big ore suppliers to Industrial worlds. What do you mean by "commercially viable government"? I don't have the codes under my belt yet, and I'm not sure what each really means anyway. Seemingly useless rockballs near an Industrial ...

Re: Traveller World Creation
I like it. My read of this cluster follows. Wow. See, that's what I'd like to be able to do on my own at some point. I wrote up a little bit about "Askel" being a former penal colony and the center of a rebellion. That left me with some difficulty in explaining the population, which I hadn't though...

Re: Traveller World Creation
I'm not even sure who's manufacturing the ships, since there seems to be no industrial base. Am I taking "non-industrial" too literally? Could there be corporations with higher TLs, but that aren't large enough to change the average TL of a system? The trade codes, such as Non-Industrial (Ni) and I...

Re: Stargate rpg (yes, again...)
I'm definitely hoping to try a Stargate-based Traveller game when I have some more experience with the system. One key issue I see with it, though, has to do with the acquisition of new technology. In Stargate SG-1, the characters become familiar quickly with alien weapons and ships, for instance, b...

Re: Traveller World Creation
Paul for more detailed (perhaps no so more realistic) system generation try GURPS First In or MegaTraveller: World Builder's Handbook. I'll look into more books after I have some successful sessions under my belt. We start this Tuesday. Traveller has been known to have issues with the random system...

Re: Traveller World Creation
Agreed, the only way to make a subsector of worlds make sense internally is to modify the random UWPs. Personally, I always start with generating random physical characteristics (Size, Atmo, Hydro, Temp and GG presence). THEN, I decide the colonization pattern and roll populations based on habitabi...

Traveller World Creation
Apologies for the cross-post, but this sub-forum seems more active than "The Rulesmasters." I'm hoping to start a game of Mongoose Traveller soon. I have been crafting a small subsystem, consisting of 7 worlds in a rough semicircle. The intent was that they're an offshoot from the Imperium, founded ...

Re: Traveller: Learning Skills/Character development
It's not a hole in the system. For one thing, it's not a problem because there is a variety of ways to provide a character with a skill the referee, player or group deem necessary. Random tables are fun, but they're not perfect. For another thing it's not a problem in this case because the only down...

I'm hoping to start a game of Mongoose Traveller soon. I have been crafting a small subsystem, consisting of 7 worlds in a rough semicircle. The intent was that they're an offshoot from the Imperium, founded some hundreds of years ago, and are now a stable sector of their own. I shouldn't expect the...

I'm quoting from page 5 of my first-printing copy, which seems to be the same one pdunwin was quoting from. It's also the version of the checklist that appears in the "travpreview1.pdf" on the Mongoose site. Yes, that's what I was quoting. Now, I think this is interesting: I was looking at the "poc...

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread, but this was the only errata thread I could find for the Core Rulebook. I don't have my Core Rulebook with me at the moment, but a couple of things have bothered me: In the character generation checklist, the step for increasing one's age is only arrived at by...
