Re: Vehicle Size Thoughts

Could the measurements include much larger packaging, including things like a shock absorbing frame around the vehicle and cargo handling infrastructure built into the cargo handling requirements? The tanks volume could be the result of thatcannon, which isn't large in volume but requires a massive ...

Traveller Second Edition Errata

I just got my POD version of the rulebook which is awesome, but I did notice the vehicle weapons have the older damage values (where nothing but the fusion gun is destructive) and was wondering if there is an errata of everything that's been fixed through the updates to the PDF?

Re: High Tech Shields and Deflector Shields

Oh for sure! I'm thinking Star Citizen, Eve Online and Elite Dangerous level of of energy shield integration, so I'll probably knock off 5 or so tech levels from all shield systems.

Re: High Tech Shields and Deflector Shields

Ah they take an action to use, deflectors I mean (maybe a reaction I mean). So single pilot craft might benifit from shields while warships would use deflectors (any ship with dedicated shield operatiors). So civilian ships would likely have shields instead of deflectors.

Re: High Tech Shields and Deflector Shields

Clearly the deflectors are superior, are they more expensive?

Re: High Tech Shields and Deflector Shields

Having all three seems to make up the total shields systems of most combat spacecraft. I'll be using this stuff in my star citizen hack!

High Tech Shields and Deflector Shields

Is it just me or are the rules for the Shield systems terrifically elegant? so simple its almost criminal! anyway just wanted to start a discussion on them, does everyone like them, or wish they were different?

Re: Energy Shields, simple and modular

I'm one of those that struggles with what would it mean to the OTU if stop-all energy shields existed? Would it simply be "+X" hull refreshed every turn? I'm fine with keeping the spirit of the OTU (thought they do have black globe and white globe generators), this would be in the vane of the warp ...

Re: Energy Shields, simple and modular

Awesome! I don't think it would be a stretch to also have them in all three of the core supplements, being such a staple in many science fiction stories.

Energy Shields, simple and modular

As a kind of toolkit type of product, why doesnt Central supply nor vehicle handbook have energy shields?!?! A nice simple mechanic for including energy shields in home grown campaigns. We have bio ships, alternative FTL technology and even cybernetics, but we don't have any mention of Star Trek, St...

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft

Lets apply this 8 weeks with failure wiping out success to a typical Science degree in Australia. It goes for 3 years. I have repeated some of this info from a previous post to keep this in one place. The first semester goes for 6 months. It consists of one each the maths, biology, chemistry and ph...

Re: Should Boon/Bane be moved to the Companion?

I personally think the issue currently is the presence of DMs that are circumstantial based on the referee's description of the environment. The referee already sets the difficulty of a task, and should set the difficulty higher if circumstances warrant (target has cover, shooter is using auto fire...

Re: Should Boon/Bane be moved to the Companion?

I personally like the single die for simplicity sake. It makes it easier for me as referee to decide if some choice of the players provides a benifit or not. Otherwise I would have to judge "how much" of a benifit what they do is. Not impossible, but the simpler approach might be better for a core ...

Re: Should Boon/Bane be moved to the Companion?

Overall I'm pleased with the direction 2nd is going. Can't wait to get it to the table. Totally agree. The only thing that still bugs me is not allowing more than one Boon/Bane on a check. I don't like game mechanics that restrict for no apparent reason. No biggie, as it is easy enough to houserule...

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft

My table doesn't seem to mind wasted effort if it's all within the game fiction and makes sense. They would feel like they shouldn't bother if they had to spend actual game resources and then failed the learning check. They would understand that they "just haven't figured it out yet", though they mi...

Re: Should Boon/Bane be moved to the Companion?

To be fair, I think Matt and co. have probably already decided how to approach Boon/Bane now in terms of the core rules. There may be some development in the Companion though. Yeah I think your right. For the most part my interpretation seems fairly close to how the rules as written want them to be...

Re: Should Boon/Bane be moved to the Companion?

So Loconius, in your view: -- Difficulty set by GM for task. -- Difficulty changed when unique circumstances warrant (Weather shifts?) -- DMs should come from rule based equipment, attributes, or wounds only (+1 from my DEX of 9) -- Boon/Bane would be assigned when the character does something (Boo...

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft

I personally like the idea of passive training (after x number of months, increase skill practiced) being conservatively long, but the companion maybe having the the aforementioned Advancement Points rules, or maybe even just earning checks when the Referee says one is available for a certain skill ...
