Re: MgT Combat And Snapshot Rules

Before switching our Roll20 group to MGT, we played it using CT and snapshot. My character was fairly average, and my experience was that for me combat was horrible. The high AP characters basically always had three or 4 actions before i got to do anything: I was either a spectator to better charact...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming

Hmm, I wonder if I'm one of those being called a sock puppet simply because I don't make many posts, and because I've criticised a very Piss Poor Traveller - like product. The fact is: -I run and play MGT and enjoy it, and some of you have even viewed some of my Obsidian Portal gamesites -I don't sp...

Re: Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming

There's a bit of an odd attitude here: "It is Traveller and therefore we should support it." Well no, actually. If its crap we shouldn't, and we should say so. No, I'm not a Director. No, I'm not an actor. I'm just a viewer. But if something is sub par, I should - and do - say so. Otherwise it would...

It looks absolutely awful. Kill it dead I say: with plasma beams and caustic criticism.

Amateurish. Crap.

Re: Traveller: Liftoff - New Box Set

My view differs. MGT has been a success because it is characterful, streamlined, simple, and a good homage to CT. Sure the zillions of supplements clutter it up - but that is the life cycle of all rpg systems. The Liftoff version is simple, but lacks character, interesting character generation, or a...

Seems a bit off that no one has bothered answering this guy.

AS a Strontium Dogs GM I'd be interested in the answer too.

Re: Traveller Weapon Playtest Comments

My honest comment? I like the existing system because it is simple, and guns are already quite powerful enough. Don't make the mistake of trying to turn the game into a 'realistic' combat simulation. It never will be, and if it was characters wouldn't last 2 seconds. I hate the mods. However, ration...

Re: Official / Unofficial Chthonian Stars for Mongoose Trave

My Chthonian Stars campaign is available for view if you're interested. You can see how I've twisted a couple of standard traveller adventures-its tricky but basically you just chop the elements up and stick the bits you want back together again. My game is on Obsidian Portal, and is called Black Ni...

Well I ran it in about 1990 using GURPS rules (pre GURPS Traveller...) and was the kickstart for a game that ran maybe 6 years. Other events/ adventures/scenarios were woven into the timeline at convenient points, and as I recall there is sufficent 'time slack' in the narrative to allow you to do th...

It always amuses me when discussions on melee weapons etc always bring out a host of martial artists/ re-enactors/ ex KGB assassins etc detailing the merits of one version of gaming reality over another. Better I think to accept that any gaming system, to be playable, is abstracted and simplified. E...

There was a giant squid analogue in 'Mission on Mithril'. In one of the encounters, the suid would attack your amphibious ATV.

solos

I think there still is a niche market: Dark City games manage to regularly publish stuff for their 'Legends' rules. When I started gaming there were lots of rpg groups around, and like many I suppose I eventually stuck with a small group of core players for many years. When that group scattered some...

I already had the 4 adventures downloaded as PDF's from Drivethru; individually they each cost about £4.50 in real money ($8.97) which is peanuts really. Two of the adventures are very, very good (Type S, One Crowded Hour). The other two (Wintermoon Incident, Fiddlers Green) I only downloaded very r...

Battledress & vacc Suit

If a character has Battledress skill do you generally also count it as the equivalent Vacc Suit skill? It becomes relevent if your battlesuit character wants to wear an advanced vacc suit or combat armour.

CT explicitly allowed the crossover I think, but its not really stated in MT.

If that product contains the scenario 'One Crowded Hour' then I must disagree with you. The layout is simple and functional in the pdf I have, and the scenario itself is very good: I think it makes an excellent 'ice breaker' for a new campaign. It also demonstrates that it's possible to have a tense...

With a Level 0 skill only I'd play it that you only get ONE of the possible specialisations- not defaults in all of them. Thus you choose Melee: Unarmed Cbt 0, meaning that done some basic self defence or martial arts training in your time. However you've not learned to use blades, axes, bludgeons, ...

The problem I have had with Coc is that if you ran it as a straight Coc campaign is that looking through the printed adventures (and some were pretty good, but many totally dreadful), if you purely ran those the game would turn into a monster mash of the worst kind. The only way do do it interesting...

TravellerAdventure

I ran it using GURPS (pre GURPS Traveller!) in about 1990. It was a success, as it was basically a good story. Our group at that time were familiar with traveller but didn't like the mechanics, and were bored with D and D (due, as we percieved it, to the general low quality of how games tended to be...
