Re: Priceless

Sounds like a pretty standard B&E by a couple of thugs robbing a (presumably) rich guy.

Also sounds like a good GM. When you are able to twist a plot and surprise characters and make the realistic wildly entertaining, that's some of the best gaming.

Re: David Gemmell anyone?

Without David Gemmell there is no George R.R. Martin.

He's awesome.

I can see how scenarios mimicking situations from his books would be pretty great.

I haven't run or designed any myself though...

Re: Averrunci

Yeah, the site recently got an overhaul, and wow. Yeah, it's pretty awesome (to me) at the moment. You can load maps, color text for characters, post in line pics (for setting or NPC interactions), but the best new feature is... Languages. Yup. You can pick players that pick specific Languages to sp...

Re: samurai of legend

In spite of everything, the OP does raise an interesting point. What house rules would you introduce to accommodate pure historical roleplaying or do they work fine as is? How would you modify the combat system and how would you handle healing in such a setting? This is an interesting question. To ...

Stop all that sorcery! :D

Loz has a great point. Magic does not have to be real for people to THINK its real.

Re: samurai of legend

I believe the magic system is more to handle "chi" abilities, if I recall correctly. You can always rule to sideline magic- but some folks like an oriental magic environment- complete with Jade Dragons, and other Asian, mythic creatures. If you are looking for a more Bushido-Ronin-Ninja game, the MR...

Re: Magical Weapons and Players

I like the solutions above. I will offer one other solution. If the problem seems to be the PC always getting smashed on, maybe the scimitars serve a more defensive purpose. Sure, they can have a simple +1 damage each, and maybe even some other effect (the +1 could do heat or cold damage to armor fo...

Divine Spells x2

So, in one of my online games the question arose: "Can I learn the same Divine spell multiple times so that I can use it several times and not have to worry that I've blown my wad?" I thought that the answer to this question is no (in older RQ versions you couldn't really do this, but I feel the pla...

Re: Character creation help. Noob to legend.

First of all, Joe Abercrombie's stuff is INCREDIBLE. "Best Served Cold" and "The Heroes" were some of the best reads I've had in a loooong time. For that world, you may have the best books. Vikings is great (even just as a read), and without a lot of "monsters" you won't much need the monsters book....

Re: Two opponents - front and back - how do you handle

Can the guy being attacked just turn sideways? If so, I would rule a bonus to the attackers for attacking from the side applies, but the defender can defend or attack using the weapons on either side that are available. This situation is not indefensible in my opinion. For example: in a fantasy sett...

Arms of Legend...?

I'm wondering how this book is different from the original Arms & Equipment, which, while flawed, I thought was very useable with the errata.

Anyone out there have both?

Re: Legend online?

I run a couple of games on RPOL.net I like the site, it has a bunch of really cool features (languages only spoken and understood by those that understand them, in line picture capability, great configurable virtual rollers, etc.), and the PBP pace leaves time for us adults to actually have a life. ...

Re: Romance In Legend?

I also recall a "passions" mechanic for ruling alot of emotional game decisions. Loz developed it (I'm sure Simulcrum can suss out what book it's from specifically- though I remember it being in Elric, I could be wrong). If memory serves, it could be applied to everything from romantic love decision...

Re: Casting Critical Successes

I don't have a Critical success table for spells, but here is a short list of potential fun fumble options. I made them up with input from my players. 1. Blanche! - Caster skin, hair and eyes are drained alabaster white. Effect lasts until a difficult (-20) resilience roll is made. This roll can be ...

Re: Multiple Professions

You could also create a specific custom profession for the player . Pick out (either with the PC, or by yourself depending on your style) which skills best fit for the character. Essentially making a hybrid profession that is exactly who the character is. Perhaps his "Noble" background was while he ...

Re: A 56-year-old centurion walks into a bar...

Don't forget- the beauty of the system is that even a heroic Merc, can step out into a back alley mugging- and a few bad rolls will leave him without his sword arm. Scaling- adventure wise- is always good, but the system can always surprise you with a good dose of realism when you are not expecting ...

A common house rule though. I rule the same way off hand CA must be used by the off hand. Pete and Loz said they were just trying to simplify it for the system, and therefore didn't want to put a lot of asterix into the rules. But I- and a lot of folks here have a hard time letting someone cast an e...

MRQII Supers

I have a friend that is looking to use the RQII system for a Supers game.

Any advice anyone (especially Deleraid) might have for him?
