Actually medieval literature and art is pretty clear that shields were carried on shoulder straps when not in use, and even that they could be swung from that position into the hand and back again with relative speed. Bear in mind that most of the people using this equipment were trained warriors, ...

That of course brings up a whole new topic of whether or not the armor penalties are really enough, especially considering how uber armor is in Conan. Excellent input! I kinda figured a Shield on the back sucks. Heck when I run through the woods with my tiny padded camera bag bouncing on back it is...

I've fought in the SCA since 1986 and running about with a 10lb helm and 70+lbs of armor, a 9lbs shield and a 3lbs "sword" ( ok a club) running about, scaling walls and operating REAL siege equipment in clamshell gauntlets... It sucks, armor after a few hours starts to hurt. Especially when you are ...

I mapped out the precataclysmic world of Kull and I've done some maps in Zamora. It would be nice seeing what the Americas looked like in the Hyborian Age, most realistically it would just be an ice age Americas with more ice as the poles would be slightly of before the finial cataclysm put things t...

BRP Rome covers Rome well but don't forget it's Evil brother Cthulhu Invictus... A Runequest Greece would grab those playing those other games.

For general gaming both GURPS Rome and Greece are excellent.

I'll probably continue running a campaign in Glorantha but there are other settings I would like to see. I have a particular fondness for settings where most characters don't have magic. Swords & Sorcery setting other than Lankhmar. Might dust off my old Thieves World copy. Long been tempted to run...

I'd prefer that Conan be either systemless or single system to Runequest, a system they own that is much better than OGL/d20. I won't use the rules in the Conan books, they just don't make realistic characters in Howard's style. I use CoC/BRP to make characters and it works great for me so I'm obvio...

I mix Lovecraftian technology in my Conan games. I also use Call of Cthulhu /BRP instead of the OGL system to run my Conan games. Deep Ones make great enemies and knowing Set and Thoth are both avatars of Nyarlathotep adds a very insidious secret to Hyboria. Yithians and their technology can take a ...

I'd like to know more about what's going on with Conan . When I first heard that Conan was switching to the Runequest system I thought "Wow they get it". Runequest is obviously a better system for capturing the feel of REH's Conan than D20/OGL. The intercompatability with Runequest and BRP/Call of ...
